  • James Robbins heads to a venue he hasn’t fished for over ten years, Edgbaston Reservoir, a venue that saw a young James fish his first ever junior match when he was ten years old. James returns to the venue to fish with feeder tactics for the big bream that reside in the lake, but even James wasn’t prepared for the intensity of fishing he experienced. With prolific shoals of bream swarming around his peg, James encounters one of the best UK bream fishing sessions of his life, with bream banked to 7lbs! The video contains plenty of tips and tactics to get the most out of your bream feeder fishing as well as some frantic action!

I haven’t enjoyed a bream fishing this much since John Wilson caught 9 double figure bream from a boat. Amazing fishing, well done cadence.

I remember some time ago, I was newly returned to angling after a 15 year absence. I had a little match rod, and a small reel loaded with 2lb mono, it was on the Basingstoke canal, at a place called eelmore. Maggots was the only bait I used back then. My friend was chatting away about nonsense when my waggler sunk. Lifting into a fish, I was really surprised that the usual bottle top didn't instantly put in an appearence, but rather, the rod curved in a way I'd never seen. I knew the I wasn't snagged because the fish with the hook pulled away from me. being more than aware that the 2lb mono was likely to give way any moment, I was more worried about losing my end tackle than any fish. but after about 5 mins of careful playing, a bow wave could be seen heading my way. By this time my mate was waiting with a landing net just ahead of the bow wave. Moments later, the biggest bream I'd ever seen was being lifted in the net, and carried to a grassy area for unhooking. Sadly there were no cameras anywhere close by. This stunning creature tipped the scales at 7lb 1oz. It's front half was dark bronze, and the rear half was almost cream in colour. That was 22 years ago, and it's still my PB.

Just love James's face during this - Firstly pleasure, then surprise, followed by bemusement heading towards disbelief. A legendary session brilliantly filmed for all of us to enjoy. We know it doesn't get any better than this. I think James must have thought he would wake up any minute and realise he was about to go and shoot the session - this must have been the dream the night before. Great stuff from a real local legend. Last time the Resor was this low it was 1976 I think I fished it every day of my school holiday that year. On the bus up the Hagley road and back again with a wet smelly net dripping everywhere, the stink becoming unbearable for the passengers. Brilliant, such an emotional connection with this film. thank you.

Fantastic session James. I used to fish here a lot from around 1974 to 1984..God am I that old?....lol..... The best sessions were during the long hot summer of 1976 when the Reservoir level dropped to an all time low concentrating the fishing. we caught some "Clonkers" as we called big Bream back then, but I reckon you win the bragging rights mate...….Love your work. Cheers..Mal

Michael Baker Such a depressing reflection of modern city life. By and large it's probably ok, but it's easy to understand why anglers avoid places like this. Why should it have to be like this though? "For evil to prosper requires good men to do nothing" 🤔

    • @michaelbaker9590

I had a look on Google maps / street view, access from Resevoir Road and it looks pretty safe to me, on a nice day I would think there are plenty of people about and looks like you could more or less park behind your peg in places, loads of parking. Water obviously very low at present, don't think you would normally be sitting where James is. Not a million miles away but wish it was a bit closer, and looks like free fishing.
