This is my favourite Christmas special of the whole series. It fills you with fear, laughter, sense of wonder, excitement, joy, sadness and hope at different moments, and there's never a dull moment. Clara's death is especially emotional.
This is a really great episode and one of the most underrated by far. There are so many great moments (Pond, smaller on the outside, the ending), the characters are fun and all bring a different dynamic, and its connection to the previous Great Intelligence stories are interesting as we continue to celebrate the 50th for Series 7. Also a lot of great music in this one, especially Clara's theme which is probably the best companion theme imo. I get that a lot of people prefer Victorian Clara and would've preferred her to stay on as it was likely originally planned, but everything from "Run you clever boy, and remember" and the Doctor's realisation is such a well done scene and I don't know if it could've worked as well if you didn't kill her off there too.
It's definitely one of the best and most magical Doctor Who Xmas Specials for me. God, it makes me so nostalgic to the 50th-anniversary celebration that for me started with Clara joining 11.
13:45 - yes, Megan’s reaction to the new TARDIS interior is brilliant, however Elliott’s is just as priceless. The absolute joy on Elliott’s face as “The Majestic Tale (Of a Mad Man in a Box)” kicks in is wonderful. This scene always gives me goosebumps.
I love, love, love Clara. My favourite New Who companion and I love her relationship with Eleven. I knew when I first heard Clara's Theme. They were made for each other and, yes Megan, it did sound like a proposal. So did the part when the Doctor put the TARDIS key in the palm of Clara's hand and said he never knows why, only *Who* and that it was him giving in to her. A beautiful scene. I don't know or remember another time when the Doctor was that willing to give the TARDIS key to a stranger. Victorian Clara is a beautiful lady.
This one was so full of twists and turns and really ramps up the mystery of Clara. By the end, I was super curious to know just what her story was (and I was ultimately not disappointed). The Paternoster gang was a hoot, as always, especially Strax. :D

I LOVE this episode!!! Clara, the Paternoster Gang, all of it. I fell so in love with Jenna Coleman this episode, after already being smitten with her in the Asylum of the Daleks. She's just precious.

Something I dont think alot of people notice is the young lad was called Digby. The previous christmas episode 'The Doctor, The Widow and The Wardrobe' they all stayed at Uncle Digbys house. It might just be head cannon but could this Uncle Digby be a Great Uncle Digby and therefore the boy in this episode?

Re: "The Bells of St John" being a nursery rhyme - Megan is probably thinking of the singing game, "Oranges and Lemons". Each verse rhymes a phrase with the bells of a London church (St Clement's for the titular fruits, "Pokers and Tongs" say the bells of St John's, etc.) ^_~
It’s a shame Benedict Cumberbatch wasn’t in this episode as Sherlock Holmes. But Ian McKellen and Richard.E.Grant make for magnificently terrifying villains. As well as Jenna’s performance as Victorian Clara. And we have to mention the new TARDIS design, it’s terrific.
I was just here for Megan's reaction to the "one word test" scene. Oh! A new "episode" of sorts was posted today, about Amy and Rory. I think it's canon. Since Neil Gaiman wrote it, and Arthur Darvill and Karen Gillan are in it, I'm sure it IS canon. Maybe you two could react to that? It's under three minutes long.

My theory, when I first saw this, was that Clara was reincarnated and she wouldn't remember her previous lives but she subconsciously did? Like Chronologically in here life this happened earlier than the Daleks, so my theory was: In the 18th century she liked making suflets and in the future with the Daleks she thought she did too and it made her aware of being human and having feelings and stuff
I really like this episode and Victorian Clara is such a good character
It was originally going to be the companian one, but Moffat changed to a contemporary one, imo bad decision
