Of all the animes to receive a remaster, Bastard was the last one I would have ever expected. I watched the original OVA back when it was released in the 90s and although I loved it, I was certain a character like Dark Schneider would be hated by today's standards.
But, here we are, and this awesome opening gave me serious chills seeing so many familiar characters revamped! 😀

there are many ways the source material didn't age well, but in the ways it was meta like "I'm the hero of this story and the laws of nature dictate that the protagonist is immortal" aged like wine.

Netflix is not an animation studio, they just give budget and set the production time if it's their original.
It's the cancer of society when it comes to workers' health (since they give much less time than Japanese producers), the only good thing is that they pay well. Many times they also ruin the production since their originals are now ONA, release 10/12 episodes all at once without considering the post-production, consequently it spoils the quality of the product

As someone who has intensely experienced the post-hardcore scene of the early 2000s, I can say that Coldrain is the best band in the genre right now.

The actual manga is one of the best drawn in the medium, and is just one of the most fun and entertaining comics I’ve ever encountered. It’s got action, it’s got comedy, and best off all: just like JoJo, it’s loaded with music references, except in this case it’s ALL heavy metal bands. You got references to Venom, Metallica, Stryper, Iron Maiden, and one character is straight up an expy of King Diamond! (There’s also a cool pseudo-mecha fight involving a giant statue with the head of Motorhead’s mascot). And yes, it is INDESCRIBABLY horny, especially in the mange (so much so that the artist has published porno doujinshi that are more graphic versions of certain scenes).
I hope they do a RE-PRINT- so i can buy the whole series! This anime is SOO GOOD!!

Imho, the manga was great until the end of the Anthrasax arc, afterwards the plot completely fell apart to the point that the mangaka basically dropped it and left it somewhere in the middle of nowhere for the last 10 years...

@@Misadventures_85 It does in my opinion. It has awesome fights, great animation (well granted I've not seen it in years but I recall it being excellent), and a really good dub. I highly recommend it.
Fair warning: it does end on an open note, and I doubt this anime will have proper closure either (unless they have an anime-original ending) since the manga is ongoing. The manga is just one nonstop, completely-unashamed power fantasy where the writer pushes the main character to be as powerful as ever and I'm pretty sure it will never officially end. I mean that prior sentence in the best way possible, because the manga and the OVA are both really fun and awesome.

As a longtime fan of Bastard since the Ova by Pioneer ...ive spent years collecting the Japanese Manga ( and waiting the hiatus), Doujins, artbooks and action figures. Seeing this series back made this long dormant IP worth the anticipation!!! Absolutely in love this intro!!!! Can't wait to see Abigail and DS fight!

Finished the last episode 5 hours ago and the show is a recommendation to every anime lover. I had such a good time from the first to the last episode. I cant count the times i bursted out lauging.
That's not even the last one, we'll get 11 more episodes later this year. (Probably in early October, I'd assume.)

Netflix really surprised me with this anime. The fight scenes are corny sometimes with the spells but the whole show is hilarious and the soundtracks are pretty damn good. Hope they keep making more seasons.

Finally had time to watch this series. Coldrain completely suits the vibe of the series and ensures you never select skip.

Gunbuster has told its story beautifully. Trying to revive it in today's anime industry is a fool's errand, especially with the fact that today's animators can't do handdrawn mecha anymore outside of Sunrise & Bones. And Gainax that holds the Gunbuster rights (IIRC) is now just a zombie company.

It definitely wasn’t the show I was expecting as I had no knowledge of Bastard!! outside of knowing the title and that it originated in the 80s. I wouldn’t call it the most top tier anime I’ve ever seen but the history and inspirations of the show were enough to keep me hooked until I got more attached to the characters. Plus the opening and closing credit sequences are gold.
