    They are a re-release of figures Pete, but thanks for the profile you did. One of the 'advantages' of this box is they are less 'fiddly' to build than the figures off the 'normal' sprues; but only just. Glad you made the effort to show this all to us. Appreciate your honest feedback too. Sadly, as with so much GW nowadays, $180 for a box over this side of the Tasman. At that price, my nephews and nieces will stick with video games.

    • @EsotericOrderGamers
      @EsotericOrderGamers  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      It does seem strange to make these boxes pretty cheap and cheerful (re-used sculpts, basic design, flimsy boxes) and then put ridiculous price tags on them. If they were cheap people would buy them and GW would achieve the aim of getting new people into the hobby. But as you quite rightly point out, who from the video game world is going to experiment with this when you could buy several new video games for that price?

    • @peterixon8708
      @peterixon8708 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      You nailed it Peter. Hence, I don't think they look at these 'intro' boxes as they used to once do. Perhaps it is a consequence of becoming a multi-billion dollar company; they don't know how to look at the war gaming community as people any more. Shame. I tend to delete their emails now, rather than read them. They just charge stupid, as in inflated, prices for everything.

      My (totally uninformed) theory is that it's not a matter of targeting things or having them available to everyone for a reasonable amount of time or any of that, it's just they have a certain amount of product they want to release a year and it makes lots of money so they're happy. So it's a churn machine focussed on 'new stuff'. For GW more product = more money, while we're all harping on about things like 'support' and ' availability' and 'affordability' which are concepts that don't even get a look in. Basically, success created the monster! 🤣

      So true Peter, so true. And GW can't be wrong; they ARE, after all, a multi-billion dollar company, so their model clearly works ... for them. No amount of 'wishing' on the part of peons like me makes a lightbulb of difference. So, distract us commoners even more with your videos, please. You give us hope.

      I agree completely with that philosophy, and so I do my best to keep things light! I appreciate the vote of confidence, thanks mate.

    As a first time buyer of the Warhammer tabletop (or board game?), this is my first impressions which lots of reviewers on YT did not mention: Box is super thin and filmsy for such a huge expensive IP and yes, you can see sprue shapes poking against the box cover. No inserts within the box, thus the runners are prone to be damaged if there is too much shaking during shipping. As a result, one of the arms of my operator was detached from the body. Luckily I found it somewhere deep within the box. Most of the miniatures are not snap-fit, thus glue is needed. I dont mind that, but some parts were way too small and did not connect well with the other parts. Lots of time spent in assembling them thus I have yet to play it. Only pros the miniatures are detailed and rulebook is interesting. But with the price I am paying for, not worth the experience. This could be my first and last Warhammer purchase.

    • @EsotericOrderGamers
      @EsotericOrderGamers  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      Really, don't judge Warhammer as a whole on this set, I beg you! There are far more interesting and better quality games available from Games Workshop, this is just a cheaply produced video game tie-in.
      I mentioned the flimsy box (well, implied it with the water damage) and the too-complex-for-this-set construction in passing, but I really should have gone into more detail. Interesting to hear your comments though - it goes to show that this kind of product can actually turn OFF potential Warhammer newbies rather than encourage them.

    Thanks for making a video on this! I wonder if Space Marine Adventures “Fire Team” is a better intro/gateway to Kill team? Problem is, hard to find.

      Hadn't heard of that one, but I had a quick look at a video and it does look far more Kill Team-ish, yes.

    I thought Blackstone Fortress was really good as a cooperative game- as long as you use the card expansions , which make the game much harder!

    This is just standard GW practice now, I am in UK, and I think everything is way overpriced, seeing the prices down under and in US/Canada, I am amazed that people are prepared to pay so much.
    I gave up on GW, switched to Dystopian Wars, much cheaper, and a great game. Really like your coverage of this game.

    • @EsotericOrderGamers
      @EsotericOrderGamers  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Dystopian Wars is excellent (we just filmed another battle report!) but I can understand it not scratching the Warhammer itch for people when it comes to scale, style, lore and all that. It's a completely different type of game after all.

    I was mildly interested until I saw the price, wowser, no thanks. Sounds like I'm not missing much anyway. I actually really like the idea of a hex-based kill team game with streamlined rules, they should do that, kill team was way too complicated for my liking (I only got part way through reading the rulebook before getting bored...).

    • @EsotericOrderGamers
      @EsotericOrderGamers  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Oh, give Kill Team another go. It's actually pretty easy once you get the hang of it, and there's enough there to facilitate interesting tactical decisions. You're not going to get any of those in something like this. I'll make it even easier for you, I've done a rules & reference: www.orderofgamers.com/games/kill-team/

    • @wolfie54321

      @@EsotericOrderGamers Maybe I'll have to give it another go. GW are just such terrible rule writers, page after page of "these 5 paragraphs could have been written in one sentence" I gave up, haha. The only GW game I regularly play now is Aeronautica Imperialis... it's also written poorly but the game is so simple that the poor writing isn't as much of a hindrance.

      Honestly it is low considering games workshop standards.
      That being said it isn't okay that GW overprices their products so much.

  • @randomarcgunner4543

    Honestly the main thing stopping me from getting the Darktide box is the lack of anything new, it's basically them just repackaging existing models.

    • @EsotericOrderGamers
      @EsotericOrderGamers  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yeah, nothing much to see here, it's to get new people into the hobby I guess.

    You cant really blame GW for the package getting delivered wet, I like that they've stopped covering everything in single use plastic and you can take the used sprues to their stores to get recycled. GW customer services are excellent and would replace that set or any water damaged contents no questions asked if you contacted them.

    • @EsotericOrderGamers
      @EsotericOrderGamers  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Oh I don't blame them really, it's just bad luck, though I do wish they'd put a bit of padding around the box rather than just chuck it in by itself. Also, this box is made of very flimsy cheap cardboard, considering the game's price. I'm sure their customer service is fine - personally I've never had to deal with them!

      This is bit of an odd duck I think . First off gameplay wise I enjoy it very much , much more than the various space marine adventures board games . Simply using kill team with a bit of rpg character customization works as a board game. I played through all missions and enjoyed it very much . That being said I feel this could have been a bit cheaper . Heck you can get the kill team starter set for around 83$ whilst this is about 93$… if this came with original miniatures or some 3d terrain then I could better justify the 93$ price tag.
      Also for the board gamers out there most of these models are NOT push to fit, now the assembly is pretty easy but again not push to fit.
      Overall I enjoy the game and I hope we see more content even if it just something in white drawf but yes this could have been cheaper.

    I wil say though that as a “kill team primer” I wouldn’t recommend this game very much. Overall if you are looking for a light dungeon crawl then yes dark tide is good , it scratches that itch (not everything has to be a massive gloomhaven or oathsworn experience), if you are looking for a kill team “primer” just go with the kill team starter set.

    • @EsotericOrderGamers
      @EsotericOrderGamers  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I agree re Kill Team. And certainly not everything has to be complex to be fun. This is too simple for me, but I'm sure many people would still enjoy it.

    Such a shame that this was handled so poorly. This could have been a great product that acted as a gateway product, and also gave GW veterans a new way to play.
    The price alone put me off, but no new models to tie in with the game, and the flimsy box cemented my decision. Shame as I am a big fan of hex based games.

    • @EsotericOrderGamers
      @EsotericOrderGamers  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Indeed, it should have been an affordable gateway product, in the way Heroquest was for so many older gamers.

    As much of a pain it is the for the rest of the world outside of the U.S and germany, I really miss boxes such as these being made available in barnes and Noble, as these fit the usual bookshelf format that the GW relationship has been granting. Except this is a lot cheaper in quality and value, and that's a shame since it needs to be able to be stored as its own game, and not some chincy packaging afterthought that fits in with their usual throwaway packaging for army components.
    Plus, the B&N bookshelf games are cheap in cost by contractual obligation. I know this is true because my own game design that Target carried had a $35 street price, and witnessed the negotiations as part of my residuals contract and informed where I wanted to put my kill clause. In order for big box shops to carry certain titles, they make very few exceptions for high priced releases as big box shops want a high turnover rate and not a boutique feel.
    And this set, it nearly twice what B&N would charge for it. It is shockingly expensive for what you get, and I hope this product fails miserably for GW.
    They already release a good beginners killteam set at B&N a couple years ago which like the Warcry counterpart (Bladeborn) they never reprinted. Just to get stuck with this...

    • @EsotericOrderGamers
      @EsotericOrderGamers  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yeah, I thought the whole point of B&N games was affordability and availability to expand the GW audience. Maybe they got carried away in this case with the thought that they would immediately attract video gamers. It all does seem silly decision making - perhaps the department setting the prices has no communication with the other departments!

    picked this up at the same time as Mantics Hellboy game. Quality of box and components is night and day. Mantics boxed games just smoke GW in quality. i would say GWs minis are better... but i dont have to try glue em together, i can play one game out the box. Its very clear that GW box is a cash grab to sell minis.

    • @EsotericOrderGamers
      @EsotericOrderGamers  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Well, it's chalk and cheese really - certainly Hellboy is better produced than this, but it's a completely different type of game, a Kickstarter campaign, etc etc. They're totally different games and targeted to different markets. Oh, and Hellboy's a good game. 🤣
