You can stick weld using car batteries hooked together. You don't always need fancy tools.... a wire fed welder. Requires a whole unit that feeds and a tube and a handle with a trigger, and most work best when using gas. The stick creates it's own shield. So many reasons ...
@corydewit please just say MIG welder not wirefed please. A MIG welder feeds wire through a long hose and uses a shielding gas which is usually a mixture of CO2, O2 and argon. MIG welding is basically point and shoot and as a 2nd year boilermaker apprentice, I love MIG welding.
