  • Recent reports of alleged activities of Indian Intelligence Agencies, notably the Research and Analysis Wing, in countries as far away as Canada, the United States and Australia have brought to the fore the contentious issue of intelligence operations amongst allies. India, a pivotal player in geopolitics, finds itself in the focus of various intelligence networks, each vying for its collaboration and allegiance.
Among these the most renowned is the Five Eyes intelligence alliance, comprising the United States, the United Kingdom, Canada, New Zealand and Australia. As India navigates its role in the global intelligence landscape, it faces a myriad of converging and diverging interests with Five Eyes. Former Indian Army Chief General Manoj Mukund Naravane(Retd) explains India's areas of convergence & divergence with 5 Eyes alliance in this week’s column

Not sure why the respected General is ignoring the provocation from the five eye members? They are openly allowing the Khalistanis to go around and beat Indian citizens and their own citizens of Indian origins who are against the Anti-India subversive activities of these Khalistani thugs. These Khalistanis are never held accountable for their criminal activities. While these countries are lying through their teeth about some imaginary activities of 'Indian agents'. I think General Naravane should let the people in office take care of things, while he should enjoy his retirement.

Does the general think people in security advisory team and MEA are less intelligent ? With no offence he goes down in the history as the general to have lost our soldiers to Chinese after 60 years if he is so intelligent in analysing the why didn’t he guess Galwan coming also I see he is reading probably someone from print would have asked him to read it. Why didn’t NSA take him to advisory board if he was a strategic expert. My view iam no expert, rather than 5 eyes India should build and invest more with Vietnam, Taiwan, Japan and south Asian countries. Rather than 5 eyes Bcose there are more intrusion in senkaku island than inside India how Japanese are handling them and building more with these South Asian countries help us rather 5 eyes countries. Isn’t Russia on upper hand in Ukraine going against entire Europe and US.

Military thinks in binary and only from the perspective of security. There are many other factors like political interference, illegal manipulation of elections, regime change seekers, supporting subversion, insurgency, country's pride/confidence in dealing with challenges that can not only affect security but a country's fate. General's view is unfortunately narrow and not in sync with bigger picture. It's the same policy that was guiding India for decades and what was the end result?

    0. India's national interest are our first priority under any circumstances. Once this is understood clearly, any threat to it from anywhere in the world including from our so called friendly states, must be dealt with squarely. For this purpose, whatever is required to be done must be done, overtly or covertly. There cannot be any compromise on this. 1. As regards recent issues with Canada and USA, it is clear that despite lots of noises, neither Canada nor USA could not provide any proof so far of Indian Govt involvement in the incidents there. So noises coming from these countries are just noises and need to be taken as such. 2. A broader question to ask is how is that criminal elements from India get visa to Canada and USA!!! Further, how is that anti India elements are able to undertake anti India terrorism and other anti national activities there? These must be sorted out with these 5 Eyes countries. 3. Once this is sorted, rest of what General says is fine. Let us not get carried away by such ideas like India must avoid confrontation with 5 Eyes. If at all, these are countries who are creating confrontation using anti India elements supported and sponsored by them. 4. BTW, why is General getting into these geo political issues rather than issues of defense?

You may not seek it, but others do. Do you really think the USA and Canada don't know what Khalistan is ? Who Pannu is ? What kind of videos he makes. I am a normal civilian and even I can do a google search and see his videos on TH-cam and website using a VPN where he openly calls for attacks on Indian soil.
Whether you like it or not, India is a important country and other nations especially the USA will try to interfere in our internal matters. It is in their nature.
They want to use us like PAWNs against CHINA like they used Ukraine against Russia, the Ukrainian youth has become cheap cannon fodder today. That could be us tomorrow.
I don't mind fighting for our country if need be, last resort. Man is born, man has to die. But I do not want to end up being used as cannon fodder for American interest.
Today China is a competitor so that are against them, tomorrow 10-15 years later India will reach China size, that time the entire WEST will eventually turn on us.
      Mark my words.

General Saab misreads very much. Shall we adopt ostrich policies when national interests are at stake? After all those long years of service General Saab, did fail to know the hidden hands behind international terrorism? A simple clue, General Saab - how come the ISIS use, brand new Toyota Land Cruiser Pickup trucks and shining M16 rifles with packing grease? Did the General know about the five eye's regime change agenda? The current Indian leadership is well capable of harnessing the five eyes, without divorcing them.

By that same logic, Army General should stick to his defence domain then, why is he speaking on diplomatic matters and intelligence operations ( R&AW & IB ) domain.
Does he know more about diplomacy & foreign relations than S Jaishankar a lifelong IFS diplomat or he knows more about External intelligence than Ajit Doval a lifelong R&AW spy, who has literally done operations in Pakistan, gathered intel during operation Blue star and settle northeast conflicts by negotiating with rebel leaders.
Do you really think the US and Canada are not aware about Khalistan issue and what kind of activities Khalistani's are doing on their own soil ?
Are you ok with Khalistani's attacking our consulate buildings, pulling down Indian flags, harassing Indian diplomats on the streets and flying posters of kill India, dismember India on the US and Canadian streets ?
