another fun detail with ginyu is that if Ginyu swaps with another Ginyu both can still use their full movesets (as they have their own Ginyu force to call upon) which is a fun attention to detail
Ok, but don’t the other force members change outfits with Ginyu? So, do the rest of the Ginyu Force keep their original outfits, or are they swapped with the Ginyus?
@@GurrenPrime No, the rest of the Ginyu Force also swap palettes. Which, if you think about it, it sounds like something the Ginyu Force would actually do.
"Okay, hold on a moment! Now our uniforms aren't coordinated anymore with the Captain's. Wanna trade? You get ours, we get yours?"
@@dariocarraresi1823 lol
This wasn't always true, beforehand he'd switch and one of them couldn't use their Ginyu force
Skullgirl's Valentine's syringes deserve a mention. One of the poisons she can load increases the input delay of the opponent. A very unusual special since most specials don't screw with the opponent on the player side of the equation.
Hell yeah orange vile
That’s sick (literally)
I know MODOK from MVC3 reversed your inputs. I think Valentine's syringe is worse though. XD
@@johngleeman8347 okay, so it was Modok. I couldn't think of who did that, tried googling "mirrored input" but only got mirror matches.
Delay-based netcode install.
the fact that rise’s super makes you play a completely different p4 spinoff will never not be funny to me.
Dude why am I seeing you everywhere?

shoutouts to Lilith in Darkstalkers forcing the opponent to play DDR
Lilith walked so Risecchi could...also walk
Rise vs Lillith rhytm minigame showdown when?
@@hunterrock1097Lilith wishes hers was anywhere near as functional as Rise's, much less as damaging. Pretty sure Gloomy Puppet Show is unfortunately the worst super in _Vampire Savior_ as a whole, especially since Lililth needed something good to actually stand out instead of being "flat-chested, worse Morrigan".
@@MusicoftheDamned"hey, let's make this super telegraphed as hell, impossible to properly execute after it lands AND cost two bars of meter!"
7:42 I will NOT stand for this Shadow World SLANDER!!!!!
As someone who's played a few fighting games with modding scenes I know of a handful of characters with completely insane moves, like wes in rivals of aether who can pull out a coding interface allowing him to edit the game's variables or code his own moves to use, or diavolo in yomi hustle who can dodge through attacks by deleting time and skipping past the opponent's active frames
does the yomi king crimson actually advance the game state several frames when you use it? because functionally that just sounds like a invulnerable spotdodge or dash, but damn must it be disorientating to be the victim of if it straight-up implements the timeskip, even in a game like yomi
@@hi-i-am-atan it is a full-on timeskip, it skips over however many frames you choose and while its use is primarily just as a fancy dodge it has a few extra uses, you can use it as a fastfall if you're midair, it has a dashing variant that can be used as an anti-zoning tool, and he also has a time skip burst though it's functionally just a counter and only goes off if you try to hit him because it would be busted otherwise. Also yes it is kind of disorienting but that also makes it lore accurate so it's not a big deal
YOMI HUSTLE MENTIONED!!!🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥 9 METER KILL:PROCESS INBOUND!!!!!
Love whenever people talk about Bedman, by far my favorite fighting game character
On a related note, if it doesn't get buffed next season, I think Bedman? in Strive would be a great character for the next "Best of low tiers" if you still intend on making them
Same i love him too and i agree a video on best of low tiers with strive bedman especially on his release would be great
Bed man is my favorite character to play in strive. Not the best but he’s just so damn fun and his tools let you really mess with your opponent
This is such a hyper specific concept for a video, I love it.
Only ever seen the idea of "here's some neat moves in fighting games" one other time with Big Yellow's video on orbs.
I love seeing Bedman coverage. You explained his mechanics super well. Big thumbs up.
Robo-Ky’s entire existence is strange and weird
being quite confident in my rhythm game skills, Rise's grab super is awful when playing online - you don't need perfect timing, you need to understand the exact latency at that moment before the note is in the hit window, which is changing every second even if you and your opponent are on wired connections. Labbing Rise throw and Using Rise throw are two different games entirely. Dee jay's sf6 super is very similar, but I've had less issues hitting the full combo
It's ok with rollback now though right ?
@@Duskia its better, but still not good. I can get a third of the inputs most of the time, but thats still garbage damage
Git Gud
GG is the freakshow of fighting games (and I'm all here for it). One of the things I kinda dislike in Strive is how sorta streamlined most characters feel compared to older games
Strive ruined some characters 😔
i always did think rise was a little weird in p4a, seeing good players use her is a treat though
Have you considered a "best mid tiers" video? Characters that are overlooked for not being good enough to see consistent competitive play, but not low enough for people to use them to become the next low tier hero, but still interesting on their own right.
Right off the bat I can think of Samus in Melee, who is borderline high tier, and has some wacky movement options thanks to her floaty nature and super wavedash, as well as some of the best zoning in the game... which unfortunately means she struggles against most of the top and high tiers in the game, which are primarily rushdown characters that can maneuver around her projectiles, thus her mid tier placement.
As far as a proper mid tier goes, however, there's Luigi, a tier below Samus. If you know anything about Melee, you'd already know how weird Luigi is and how that weirdness is emblematic of his playstyle as an off meta pick.
8:05 Nope! Not sure if she's the first one, but Lei Lei (aka Hsien-Ko) was way earlier! Way less item variance though.
The Darkstalkers classic of “originating so much cool fighting game stuff.” I think it’s even where the mechanics for Raging Demon come from
The fact that Nage landed that Faust super on Omito, in Grand Finals of EVO Japan 2018, and Omito picked the purple reaper is amazing
That might be the best evo set to ever happen
The removal of Ginyu being able to body-change mid-combo is due to a bug I think, something about the priority of moves being messed up.
I was gonna mention Lilith's Gloomy Puppet Show from Vampire Savior, but then I realized it's basically a really clunky version of Rise's super. For the longest time though, I straight up had no idea what the super was even supposed to be.
NEVER CLICKED A VIDEO SO FAST IN MY LIFE, MR MIXTAPE VID WITH 2 OF MY MAINS IN THE THUMBNAIL
Re: Faust and Bedman. Sometimes, in Guilty Gear, your main dies and you have to deal with an entirely altered move set.
I think Mariah from the Jojo acrade game deserves a mention.
She has a unique zoning play style that asks you to force your opponent to run into your sockets, leveling up the magnetism level which in turns strengthen her special moves.
I really lover her 2C, where she throws a knife into the air that flies towards your opponent. Depending on your magnetism level, it range increases.
Kinoko's rock super in Ultra Fight Da Kyanta 2 is probably the most unhinged move I can think of. It causes unblockable rocks to fall from the sky which can hit both players. Sometimes there's a red rock that will insta-kill, and the super even persists between rounds.
*YOU ARE KINOKO*
I'm surprised you didn't mention Lilith's rhythm game super in Darkstalkers.
Her super is a lot weirder because there's no visual cue to go off of. You have to memorize the input and the rhythm, so it becomes Simon Says with a tighter window execution.
One thing that wasn't mentioned, would be one of Jagi's supers from Hokuto no Ken! He makes you pick out how his name is spelled in Kanji. So cool. It even has a followup where they have to do it again, and if they mess up- they get stunned. Now that is a silly move. Even for HNK standards..
Given the only fighting game I've ever put any amount of time into is Final Fantasy Dissidia, I'm going to call out some of the weirder unlockable characters in Dissidia 12, including Gilgamesh who changes what weapon he uses every time he attacks (and they all have different bonuses, except the one that cuts your damage down to nothing) and Feral Chaos ( who is incredibly strong but has to specifically unlock niceties like his super mode, or a health meter that doesn't constantly shrink). Hell, some of the base roster characters are weirdos, Emperor Mateus is so focused on traps and setup tools he has almost no straightforward attacks and Exdeath who is incredibly slow and unwieldy, but if it gets off a counter-attack he just rips you in half.
Interesting ways of adapting Emperor Mateus, a scheming despot who works on trickery and Playing Multiple Long Games simultaneously, and Exdeath, who is a villain who was originally Just A Big Tree prior to becoming sentient
@@hambor12 Mateus' gameplay style fits him to an extent, but Exdeath in Dissidia really fights nothing like how he acts or fights in FF5 (or 14 for that matter).
@@Omnicrom i'm mostly being facetious for the sake of making the Exdeath is a Tree joke
The fingers up the butt thing in Faust's super is kancho. It's way less common these days but it used to be a pretty common prank among young Japanese kids. It's in Naruto a couple times, too. You can think of it as roughly analogous to like, purple nurples or wedgies, i guess.
It's sad the Rise's rhythm game super isn't practical anymore since the PC port balance patch - the startup was increased from 48 frames (already high but there were ways to confirm into it), to 63 frames, making it near-impossible to confirm into and only really accessible in checkmates with scan-state oki against meterless, burstless opponents. That patch also made the execution on the SB version tighter, and since P4AU's rollback implementation was slightly dodgy, it's even harder to do online thanks to the input delay.
Shoutouts to Jefailey in Divekick, whose ground Super just pulls out a trophy and looks at it. It’s literally a move used to run out the clock, which is a real threat in Divekick.
Ako in DFCI’s entire 214 series reduces your assist’s cooldown, with her EX version almost instantly refreshing the cooldown.
Earthquake ripping ass in peoples face stands out for the more serious tone of Samurai Shodown
That P4A super kinda reminds me of Lilith's Gloomy Puppet Show in VSav. Great video as always!
vsav is the "Simpsons did it" of fighting games 😂
I used to play +R a lot with friends and it was always a hype moment whenever someone got caught in Faust's cup shuffle super
Good picks! While he's far less weird than the mentioned I think Yoshimitsu from tekken deserves a mention. He is the most unorthodox character in tekken, with moves that not only put him in weird stances but straight up kills him, like his suicide attacks. Not to mention everything else.
Surprisingly for someone whose knowledge of the genre may come across as perhaps even terrifyingly eclectic, I can't think of many strange moves in their own right. However, one *great* example comes to mind: the cast of Wonderful World, a GG-esque doujin fighter.
My mind went straight to Duna's j.236P - basically think Ky's air fireball but it bounces off the fuckin' floor. For what's probably the best zoning tool in the game, that's not even close to the full extent the game has to offer.
For example, Lunathia. You stan Sabe's innocent, sailor-mouthed child or get the fuck out. With her Original Action (think like BlazBlue's Drive,) she can change the range of her S & HS normals alongside most of her specials. This inevitably makes one of the coolest zoners to ever walk God's Green Earth. (Ironic I say that as she's a demon.)
Whilst Luna's the coolest example, there's other like Sasari - a pseudo-puppet zoner who summons/commands a miko doll to terrorise you, - Eldio - he can summon apparitions to fake out his movement & attacks for disgusting mixups - or Pale - a 'runaway' character in the sense she only stays away 'cause that's only when her moves will even contact.
I think in Xrd if the opponent gets the angel Faust can burn more meter to change it into a reaper, but that's expensive to do since it costs a YRC worth of meter on top of the 50% for the super in the first place.
I quite like Bone-Crushing Excitement (for those unfamiliar, that's the super Faust got in place of Stimulating Fists of Annihilation in Strive), personally. Considering the new flavor of goober Faust has become and the fact that there's still a lot of fun to be found in shattering your opponent's ankles with a wheelchair, its a pretty reasonable tradeoff in a game that's making such an effort to streamline itself compared to other fighters.
It has the same feel compared to stimulating fists but functionally it's just a normal super, no rng, no backfiring, it's just a really tall hitbox that has a great cinematic super affer
I'm finally subscribed like I thought I already was. Anyway, a weird & funny move that no one has brought up so far is from the _Akatsuki Blitzkampf_ that people generally now knows exists because Akatsuki himself has gotten around a lot in the past decade. The move in question isn't one of his though but instead one of the character Sai's unblockable glare "grabs". They all curse you with a different status effect, but the C and super versions curse with a "status effect" that literally and only smacks you in the head with a *fish* any time you try jump while it's active.
The funniest thing about it is that it's as practical as it is amusing since even though you can block or parry the fish, it *will* spawn right above you and will otherwise occupy you, making jumping almost a non-option for you while you're cursed by it. It's all the stranger because Sai is otherwise represented as a relatively serious if smug spy character in a slick suit, so it would basically be like if Genjuro from _Samurai Shodown_ just randomly had Faust's ass-stabbing super that you showed in this video.
For Rise’s rhythm super you can press all 4 buttons at once and just focus on the rhythm.
Considering you showed a Rhythm Game with "Live On Stage" I'm surprised you didn't mention Lilith's "Gloomy Puppet Show". But hey. Ammo for the next Strange Moves video, right?
X-23's stealth mode in Marvel vs Capcom 3
man you cover such interesting topics and explain them so well
id be so down if you did more videos like this one
Love your videos dude! One thing I do wished you mention is in Faust’s super in xrd (not sure if it’s like this in +R) that there’s a chance that even if you picked the right cup with the angel you still have a chance to get hit by the super
me waiting so patiently for any mention of zappa
i wish i had any good SNK examples of strange moves. like iroha's SSM where she boinks you to death on camera is Strange but like in the "keep your door locked while you play" way. kyoshiro's Get Ate By A Frog command grab is also weird but a little more understandable imo
Opening a random video just to hear a song I used to listen to all the time when I was 13 is a really surreal feeling
Faust really used the Titans Years of Death Jutsu effectively and I’m hear for it
The thing about ginyu body change is the move is actually inherently strong and kinda broken but ginyu players just choose to never use it. This isn’t cause it’s bad it’s because ginyu himself is top tier, and uncommon enough to where most people don’t know how to fight him. So why bother swapping off your top tier knowledge check for a character you probably don’t play? It’ll very rarely see use like if the ginyu is at a huge deficit but usually the oki from his other level 3 is preferred
"I see bed man i click"
Wow more content! Love your vids!
Idk how well it would fit in but I do think Geras from MK would be a good fit for a video like this. Lots of stuff related to manipulating time - one ability from casual MK11 allowed him to add and subtract time from the round timer. Another (tournament legal) ability replaced his combo breaker with a full rewind out of a combo along with rewinding health to where it was at the point being rewound to. Very interesting character for an NRS game imo
Came for sick content
Left for shadow world slander
Good vid tho
Darun Mister from Street Fighter EX2+:
Gamble Of Darun.
It's his Level 3 Super, it's a multi-grab super done with 360º+ 3 Punches.
After it begins, both players are put in this minigame where Darun has to do 360º+P or 360º+K inputs and the opponent has to press either Punch or Kick, to try and guess Darun's input. If they guess correctly, they break out of the grab, even damaging Darun back if they guess on theitr first try. If not, Darun proceeds with the next grab of the sequence, dealing more and more damage on each stage.
On the 5th and last stage, if the opponent didn't break out, Darun proceeds to bend their opponent into a pretzel for about 10 seconds, before slamming their head into the ground from the fucking stratosphere for an *INSTANT KILL*
What makes it even more interesting is that the last input is not a 360º; it's a secret input not explained either in-game nor in the manual, and is also a completely unique input (Spoiler ahead I guess):
.
.
.
Charge Up, Down, Up + punch or kick.
This video could honestly just be you saying "all arcsys characters" and end it there lol
I'd also put tager too. I've never seen a character with a magnetic mechanic. Let alone that it has so many unique interactions based on where you and the opponent are.
Jack-O in Xrd. I've never seen a tower defense character in a fighting game before or after her. Her Strive version is more like a traditional puppet character, so I wouldn't include it.
Also, bedman? Adds a similar mechanic that makes him super strong specially since it’s like the seals that stay WITH THE BED making it more flexible and harder to miss
9:33 "Shame it's not in Strive"... If I had a nickel for every time I've uttered that statement, I'd be a very rich man.
The weirdest special move kit I can think of goes to Koishi Komeiji in the airborne Touhou fighting games. Yes, "airborne." The fact that you're playing a bullet hell fighting game where you are actively flying around but still using standard 2D fighter mechanics is already weird, but Koishi is a character whose abilities are based on the subconscious, and she has built that into not only her special moves, but also some of her strong attacks. When you use one of them, she'll get a ring rotating around herself of a color related to the move. This move is now something she is subconsciously thinking about doing. Koishi will then stop whatever she is doing and *use* the move if the opponent fulfills a specific condition, without you needing to input the attack. For example, she has an anti air that comes out if the opponent ever moves above her, and she has a fullscreen command grab that will come out if the opponent is ever horizontally level with her and in hitstun or something funky like that (it's been a long time since I've played the game). I seem to recall that she could only load so many of these moves at once, but I don't remember how many.
Oh, as an added bonus, her dash is very slow but, if used while on the center line (on the "ground" that you gravitate towards in the air) she turns invisible and reappears behind the opponent.
Update: She also has an attack where she sneezes at the enemy with a huge hitbox and decent knockback for zoning, but every second time she tries to use it, she won't sneeze and the hitbox won't come out. So you kind of have to "reload" it.
Bedman was my favorite new addition to th gg series haven't played strive didnt catch my eye and i love me some GGsince ps1 days
Shout-out to Mister Acolyte's *insane* Ginyu team mix, he makes it look easy.
Live on Stage is considered a strange super?
(Looks over at Big Band from Skullgirls)
I guess Bedman's replay mechanic was what inspired the mechanic of the same name for Abacchio in JJBA: All Star Battle R? That game has some pretty interesting characters, I think it would be cool for you to cover it sometime
Surprised there is no mention of Joy Mech Fight on this list, while it is an NES fighting game it does feature some unique and strange moves such as the Sukapon Roll from Sukapon. A Blanka ball style charge move that during it's active time gives you variable options based on the button you press and the timing of the press; examples would be pressing the punch button allows you to perform a jump which conserves the momentum of the roll which goes higher depending on how early you press the punch button, pressing the kick button performs a small hop in place to catch certain jumps and faint an opponent's punish option, and a secret third option where performing half circle back and both the punch and kick buttons performs the "crazy roll" which is a much less mobile hop that deals the most damage out of any move in the game, it's trajectory and damage is completely random but is heavily rewarding if you land it.
Sincerely hope the game can be covered on the channel, for a channel about fighting game talk or oddities a game like Joy Mech Fight could be worth talking about for it's varied roster, inputs system, and it's general mechanics which would make for good content.
Dan taunt super is a classic
You can’t be most unique, unique means one of a kind
to be fair to guilty gear, fausts "interesting animation" is a real thing called kancho, basically a mean prank in east asia. never had it done to me but allegedly its really painful. its also referenced in naruto with kakashi's "1000 years of death."
In terms of random item characters, Faust is certainly the mold that would be followed, but if you want to grasp at straws, there is one character that predates him in this category. Lei-Lei or Hsien-Ko from Vampire Savior/Darkstalkers has an item toss that functions semi-randomised. Her item toss has a set order to it at first glance with even a controlled variation, as hitting this special with different strengthed buttons will yield different items on the queue sometimes. However, the 8th, 11th, 22nd and 26th items in the queue are randomized between about like 6 options, with the queue ending and resetting to the beginning after the 32nd item in the queue (There are alot of duplicates in the queue). Another randomised part of it is that if an item that would be tossed is one already on the sceen, it will be skipped in favor of the next item on the queue, so the random item might have you skip an item by chance. The item pool is rather small compared to a more traditional item character and said items are all damaging projectile attacks. Variations come in different throw-arcs (influenced further by your ability to throw them at an upward, overhead-arc with heavy punch) and for certain items to instantly stun the opponent on hit. Again, compared to the chaos of a character like Faust, it's alot more tame and controlled. However, I think it's an interesting footnote and I find Vsav/Darkstalkers an endlessly fascinating game for it's major role in setting foundations for alot of mechanics in future fighting games, which can be sometimes forgotten in it's modern day obscurity.
Another banger
MK11 believe it or not, its called Shifting Sands. Geras has it. It's.. akin to an odd almost false wall on either edge, but for only one launcher it seems. Really weird underused move that can pull the enemy out of hitting you as it drags them to the center, and can actually make Geras plus after getting hit due to the string whiffing halfway through
What comes to my mind more than weird moves is weird mechanics/meters exclusive to one character in a game (junpei’s baseball), maybe that can be the base (keh) for a video
I mean, you've already showcased p4a...
Junpei is playing baseball. Not any single move... His whole character.
And mvc3 has Phoenix Wright and Frank West.
rise's rhythm super is actually not the only one of its kind-lilith in vsav/darkstalkers has the same thing!
In the Touhou fighting games one of the characters Yukari has a rather interesting special… especially if you don’t fullly know the lore b/c in this rather Fantasy looking world Yukari can hit her foes with a FREAKING TRAIN
Oh forgot the best part in the most recent one AOCF… not only does she get this Manic theme that sounds like a Train barreling down the tracks… THE TRAIN ALSO EXPLODES!!!
Bedman my beloved, missed opportunity to talk about te best super in the game though
Lilith’s “Showtime!” Super from Vampire Savior
WOOO BEDMAN WOOOO BEDMAN? AS WELL IN STRIVE WOOOO
there's a game called slap happy rhythm busters, and it's a fighter for the ps1 where the gimmick is everyone has a rhythm game super, and ironically they're not that useful since they cost three bars of meter which is better spent elsewhere, even if you are good at rhythm games, but you get a cool cinematic finisher if you land a kill with them.
even beyond this gimmick the game has a really nice cell shaded aesthetic, like a somehow brighter and more colourful jet set radio.
I'm surprised you didn't mention Lilith's Gloomy Puppet Show or, well, anything in Skullgirls.
Faust is actually not the first "random item go" character in a fighting game. That honor belongs to Tesse, from Waku Waku 7. Although it was mostly random projectiles with different properties, and there was a version where she randomly scrolls between her items.
Guilty Gear Xrd Bedman is the greatest fighting game character of all time, in my opinion. I always have a blast when it's bedtime.
Pretty this video making for strive character with half the move
Surprised there was no shoutout to Bedman?'s error 6E, which is fittingly a malfunctioning, fucked-up, barely controllable version of Deja Vu.
Ngl ik he's not crazy weird, but Jamie's attack swagger step is straaaaange. It's oddly better when he doesn't drink, and it's supposed to be a shimmy option. The command combo that follows swagger step is like actually worse than just doing swagger step lol
rogue in street fighter vs x men literally steals you opponents moves and in one case steals their infinite with juggernaut she can even steal akumas raging demon she loses this in mvc2 but her stat steals also have their own weird perks that make her extremely threatening speed and defence up being the main ones but super armour from sentinel is no slouch either n in weird extremely specific why did they even add it circumstances she can steal hyper armor its a good job the buffs are on a timer because some of them make her a crazy character to deal with
I wish scr in hftf worked like ginyu bodyswap
Guilty gear strive happy chaos’s hs, 236s and 214s make my brain hurt
I'm pretty sure Rise's rhythm game super used to be a lot easier and also dealt more damage in the 1.1 version (last PS3 and 360 version), but you also had to play it for longer.
Either that or i just got way worse at it, cuz it used to be no problem at all for me, now i can't get a perfect in it to save my life.
Kinda strange you didnt cover Bedman? From strive since its a similar concept to their xrd iteration. Then again, that would make this video have 3 gg characters which would feel bloated so its understandable
Literally all ArcSys games, just goes to show that they are the most creative in the fighting game community.
Dokkan OST Appreciator 🫡
I'm just curious, if the Ginyu player gets a KO while swapped, does it kill the opponents character? Or is it a case that you permanently have the swapped character until it's death?
holy thigh gap in the thumbnail
none of these are even close to the most complex. ever heard of a little move called "gun flame"?
I want to try hftf
Hey babe come over new mr mixtape video just dropped.
_Neco-Arc enters the chat_
_Every Jojo character enters the chat_
If you don’t know the lore of Touhou Yukari would also be there… cause “Journey to the abandoned Station “ sure is weird without knowing Touhou’s lore
Faust's super in strive may be complete garbage compared to his xrd and xx supers but visually it's just as good
Hsien Ko is the progenitor of the random item toss.
But she sucks.
I see thigh gap - i click
Add Car Girl to ASBR now
screw bedman, BRING BACK ZAPPA
So the Rise super is just like Lilith’s Gloomy Puppet show but with slightly more utility which really isn’t that much to begin with lol.
Keeping on topic with Darkstalkers Hsien-Ko/LeiLei would probably be considered the origin of the random item throw move. Though hers isn’t entirely random it has a set order that can be thrown out of wack by using the different strengths on top of other variables like the stun items.
All of them are Arc System games
I find it weird that the thing you think is weird about Bedman is Deja Vu, and not his dogshit super.
He said tools that are weird but useful, hemi jack deadass wastes 50 meter
