I recently retired and got bored one day, so I ordered 30 various succulent cuttings.. while I waited for their arrival I took a TH-cam crash course On what makes succulents and cactus happy.. The first thing I learned was if you can't grow succulents or cacti, then you need to buy silk and plastic plants.. lol. I've grown many types of plants both indoors and out.. Just nothing ever this easy.. I could lay it on a rock and it would grow which is a perfect plant for us older folks.. My plans are to grow for gifting to family and friends, churches, hospitals, schools, construction workers, or basically to anyone with a good heart that gets up each day to contribute in making this great country run.. Thanks for the video. Very informative. As Schwarzenegger said.. I'll be back..lol

Then I clicked on your link & the content clicked for me 😊So now I'm super excited & like I can actually grow these babies! It's probably not such a big deal for others but I ordered mine as a way to motivate me to open my curtains to let the sun in again. Since my Son past away two years ago I hadn't even opened my curtains but now I HAVE TO or my succulents will die just like a part of my heart did when I lost my Son. I tell you this in hopes you know how important your content is to many of us in many different ways. I know a big part of how good your vids are is because you love what you're doing and it's shining through to us! Thank you and God Bless you always signed, Joe's Mom💔 🌵⛅🔆

So glad I found your channel! My grandma passed 23 years ago & my grandpa never took a second look at her succulents. He passed last year & I took them over. ❤️ They are all mangled together, but cover an 18” planter! They are everywhere! I took one off and gave it to my mom already. ❤️
Thankyou so much for your pot drilling video. It was so helpful as I was a bit timid to do it, but not anymore! Nothing is safe from my drill, lots of pots. Thanks so much Liz!
First time ever I have watched such a long video completely. Without taking any break. It is very relaxing and informative. Thanks 👍😊 for the great info.

I just found your channel a couple days ago and I'm so happy I did! You are very knowledgeable on succulents which is very admirable. I am new to the succulent world but I've fallen in love with it so much! I look forward to propagating mine!

Thanks very much for watching, Tracy. I'm glad to know you're enjoying my videos. I hope you find your new hobby rewarding. Take care and have a Wonderful succulent day!🥰
Good content! I'm a retired farmer from northeast US trying my hand at succulents near San Diego US. An ancient, ground growing, uncared for jade plant gave of itself to get me into this new style. Trying a couple things before finding this video. NICE! Thank you.
I always say....BE BRAVE. What's the worst that could happen? They die....But when they live, the confidence you'll gain is worth the fear of losing them. Or you just move on to the next plant.😁
really love your effort.. thanks for uploading the video.. i bought few succlents who are giving off the babies and this is the video i was looking for
Wow, you are clearly VERY good at what you do. Thank you so much for this wealth of knowledge on the care and propagation of these plants! Give your birb a boop from us!
Thanks Liz, this is very informative and helpful. I'm going to take your advise looking at mine and which to separate and which to leave n let grow more. Gorgeous plants as always, love seeing your beautiful collection! ❤ Pedro is so cute
Your bird is amazing. They're so smart. He listens to everything you say. My cat does the same. But I think mine is jealous that I am not petting him and touching my plants.
Chicken grit is the same as decomposed granite and you can get it really easily at any ranch/garden store...and it doesn't absorb moisture like cat litter...just a thought.
Thanks for the info Brea. I've been told by a few people that in USA and some parts of Europe, Chicken Grit is made up of decomposed granite. Unfortunately, I don't have any way of confirming this because here in Australia, the Chicken Grit that's being sold for calcium deficiency in chickens are made up of calcite and limestone. It can also be really expensive for around $25 for a 5 kilo bag. Best buying the Maifan Stone (Chinese decomposed granite) for $35 for a 10 kilo bag. Decomposed granite if available is $75 per cubic meter.
@@GrowingSucculentswithLizK Yes, chicken grit is granite but it's certainly not decomposed. It's tiny stones. It provides no nutrition to fowl, it helps them digest real nutrients that are in chicken feed. For use in potting mixtures it holds no moisture, only provides space for air and roots. There are many types of chicken feed that are probably confused with grit but anyone in a farm store will set you straight. Today I purchased 50 pounds for about $30.00 and it will last me a long, long time. I'm in Virginia, in USA.
✨Liz, I am so grateful for all your knowlege!! Thank you for putting all your links in the show notes. And it absolutely makes my day with Pedro's 🦜special appearances! 😍
Most of these are also not available on most online shops here in Australia. I found these sellers through Facebook. I'm sure you'll have groups on Facebook Succulent Groups in CA that would also sell these. Thanks for watching.
After being dry for a while, the plants are dehydrated and soft. If planted straight into soil, it will take them a long time to recover and have a higher chance of dying. Soaking them hydrates them more so that when they're planted in the soil, they can continue to grow. Soaking time depends on how soft or dehydrated the plant is. Most of the time, overnight soaking is fine.
Thanks Liz, your collection is awesome! Love how much care you put into your succulents! Just wondering what solution you put in your soaker. Didn't understand that part. Thank you!

Hello. So happy to have found your channel. Very helpful and especially impressed how knowledgeable you are of the names of all the varieties of succulents. Do you have any videos regarding using grow lights? I have grow lights on my succulents and keep the lights on 24/7. Am wondering if that is a good or unnecessary approach. Your little feathered buddy is s cutie pie. Love his little feedback in the background and him talking to the wheel on the chair was adorable. Thank you
I keep my grow light on for maximum 16 hours/day. Plants also need some rest period. Below is a link to my playlist on using grow light. Cheers GROW LIGHT ON SUCCULENT - th-cam.com/play/PLrXnzlHRKzosZD4m9ZutarWGWLAH1sQom.html
A lot of these ones are also expensive at one time. I don't make it a habit of buying the latest as the price always comes down after a couple of months. Thanks for watching Charlotte.
Most of them are planted in my MASTER SUCCULENT SOIL MIX. I have different soil mix that I use for different reasons. Please see link below this video in the description box for my different soil mix. Thanks for watching.
I use liquid seaweed. Any brand will do. Worm casting juice diluted also helps. With new small succulents, best to not water them and just lay it on top of the dry soil to root up and reach the bottom of the soil where it should be moist to encourage fast growth.
Can I ask what type of materials you use for the layer on top of the soil? Like the tiny light brown stones on the Black Queen? And how do you choose what type of top layer a plant gets?

I've decided i want to try succulents. I have about 70 tropical plants and only one, the Ogre (shriek) succulent. Is it ok if i just buy a bunch at once - 20 or so? Or do i need to buy one at a time?
Liz, I'm not good caring my succulents. I need help to separate my mixed succulents bought from store because I'm worry they are over clutter. The Pot looks full. Is it ok?
If you bought them like that, they'll take a while before they would need separating. I wouldn't do anyhting to them it it was mine. I'll just enjoy them for now.🥰
Considering that they are planted in a suitable soil mix; only reason I can see might be overwatering. I normally don't water my succulents during winter unless they are indoors and getting plenty of light.
Depends on the plant(succulent name), area you live in, outdoors or indoors, planter/pots to use; will determine the type of soil mix. Because of this, I use different soil mix. I have a few soil mix video link below this video in the description box.
Liz, should I buy an indoor light while they are starting? I'm in WA State. Cooler during half the year. I do have a good window for light, but what temperature should the house be? Is 70 degree okay? My succulents are mainly for gifts, indoor plants.
I want to buy some form of start up kits. With the blues, pinks etc. Any idea where I would go to learn the best to buy for indoor, WA State, NW USA. Not sure which "type" to focus on while I'm learning.
There are so many types of succulents and have varying needs but a lot of them prefers to be grown outdoors; or if grown indoors, have to be taken out every couple of weeks to soak up some light. Otherwise, providing a grow light will help. There's plenty of info online to help you with your choice of plants but the best place to learn is to go through online succulent stores to help you pick which plant you'd prefer. Best of luck. Cheers

What kind of solution you put for the new plants & what kind of soil we use coz i have a new succulent given to me but the small were dying
I use liquid seaweed. Any brand will do. Worm casting juice diluted also helps. With new small succulents, best to not water them and just lay it on top of the dry soil to root up and reach the bottom of the soil where it should be moist to encourage fast growth.

Do you have to bring them in in the winter time can you grow these in your house thank you

How long do you soak in seaweed solution? And do you dilute the solution with water? Thank you
Yes it's diluted in water. Half the recommended dosage. I usually soak them until the bottom leaves plump up. Some can take hours and others days.
so nice and beautiful
Thank you so much 😀
are any of the plants Hen and Chicks I leave my outside in the winter and they do very good I live in North Carolina

Liz, I'm not good caring my succulents. I need help to separate my mixed succulents bought from store because I'm worry they are over clutter. The Pot looks full. Is it ok?

Can you suggest a substitute for your seaweed solution? 😅 thank you
Doesn't have to be in liquid form as they are now also available in powder form in many places online if you can't get it near you.
All beautiful
Thanks for watching and commenting. 🤗😘
Thanks
No problem. Thanks for watching.
Hello maam Lizk, how do i care my succulent, they are all dying bec. It is winter here in Japan.
Considering that they are planted in a suitable soil mix; only reason I can see might be overwatering. I normally don't water my succulents during winter unless they are indoors and getting plenty of light.
Let the buggy talk, he or she is sweet. Lovely sucelants. What is the best soil mix??? Tank you.
Depends on the plant(succulent name), area you live in, outdoors or indoors, planter/pots to use; will determine the type of soil mix. Because of this, I use different soil mix. I have a few soil mix video link below this video in the description box.
hi Liz, i am enjoying your video ☺️ . thanks. i have succulents and not sure what kinds are they... maybe you can help? ☺️

Liz, should I buy an indoor light while they are starting? I'm in WA State. Cooler during half the year. I do have a good window for light, but what temperature should the house be? Is 70 degree okay? My succulents are mainly for gifts, indoor plants.
Depends on the succulent but most do grow faster if given more light. Some actually go dormant when it's too hot. 70°F is a sweet spot for most.
