    Like many BMW's, the valve is not not for sound - It is for higher flow rate at high rpm.

    The valve is 100% functional. Cut the muffler open and you will see the flow path is different on each side. The path going to the passenger (valve) side bypasses the muffler internally. Put a catless downpipe on the car and the difference with valve open vs closed is VERY dramatic.

  • @RonHenry
    @RonHenry 4 ปีที่แล้ว +5

    The exhaust flap does help out a lot once you add an aftermarket downpipe to the car. In sport mode you’ll definitely hear the exhaust more at highway speeds in sport mode.
    In normal mode with an aftermarket downpipe the car is silent just like stock. That’s perfect in my opinion. Once you switch to sport mode, there’s a real transformation in sound that the exhaust flap makes possible. So on a stock car, not much difference. Once you start tuning, it’s a good option to have.

    The inside sound is a gimmick the valve is active as you showed it opens and closes lol.... I am confused as to how you are saying it does nothing? I makes the car Noticably louder! in real life and on camera. No its not a straight pipe but that's not its intent... and yes on Most the exhausts for this car aftermarket companies have made it better by making it straight on the valve side or a smaller muffler. but its 100% active. Also sport mode isn't the exhaust only its sport mode as you said in the beginning from suspension, steering to tune of the car. I get it its TH-cam your likely just saying this for the comments.

    • @BrosFOURRSpeed
      @BrosFOURRSpeed  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      phat56pat In real life the valve being open barely makes a difference in sound. I’ve been driving for two weeks now with the valve manually opened. Start up is slightly louder. But normal driving and hard driving. The exhaust tone is identical to the valve being closed. The valve maybe changes the sound 5%. That’s not enough to say it’s functional 🤷🏻‍♂️

    • @phat56pat
      @phat56pat 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Bros FOURR Speed we have personally done a decibel test and it’s louder. From 92 closed to 97 dB open. And decibels making increases of 5 dB is considerable in sound. Saying it’s a gimmick is false it litterally makes it louder but clicks are clicks I get it.

    • @phat56pat

      And any difference means it’s functional

    • @BrosFOURRSpeed
      @BrosFOURRSpeed  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      phat56pat Well driving, the wind/road noise makes it to where I can barely tell a difference 🤷🏻‍♂️. In my opinion an active valve in an exhaust should make a substantial different. Straight piped vs going through a muffler. If the wind noise makes it to where I have to really concentrate to hear the difference, that’s not functional to me

    • @phat56pat
      @phat56pat 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Bros FOURR Speed well they have to be within legal limits so on on certain countries. The muffler is supposedly straight thru on that side but I don’t believe that. People want a lot that the car is not. Just saying it’s a gimmick is false it does quite a bit. But well done on click bait

  • @Rockeizta
    @Rockeizta 3 ปีที่แล้ว +6

    The valve is for less sound/air for city driving and for comfort. The sport mode is to stiffen the electric dampers and suspension and to open the valve for better exhaust airflow.

      @BrosFOURRSpeed  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Interesting. However I dynos this car bone stock in sport mode and normal mode. It makes the exact same power. So Toyota just wanted it to have a tad more sound I guess, and maybe it helps make the pops louder in sport mode. I now have a Magnaflow exhaust on it that uses the stock valve. It's amazing! th-cam.com/video/bpBAHvR_Lpg/w-d-xo.html

    • @lamakicker69
      @lamakicker69 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@BrosFOURRSpeed what? Why would sport mode make more power?
      Dude the valve isn’t to make more sound, it’s for more airflow either way it’s going through the muffler so the sound isn’t gonna be any different. All you did in the video was turn off the active sound which is just pumped it sound, sport more turns that up. If you want a louder sound you need to make changes to to exhaust.

      @@BrosFOURRSpeed Guys...just think. With the valve closed the air has to flow through the muffler 100% and come out through the other pipe tip. Whereas when the valve is open the air flows through the easiest path which is the tip without the muffler. So it actually does work as it is supposed to, just in a cheap way with the air flowing either in one exhaust tip or the other, not through both

It's an engineered sound by the systems computer, and not a real time recording of the sound the car is making, so as to allow the driver to hear the car without the windows down? If so, does the radio need to be on for this happen since the sound is played via the cars speakers?

    • @BrosFOURRSpeed

      @@davideugenediaz What I’m showing in the video is, the physical valve is not the reason the car gets louder in sport mode. The endings tuning makes the exhaust louder. Calling it as a gimmick is one that i dont agree,because it actualy functional.. The valve moves open and close,meaning that will alter the exhaust gas route,that is functional.. You need to understand that the main function of the valve is to open up another way for the exhaust gas to get out,not to increase the sound it creates. . sport mode is sport mode,not loud mode.. If you ask sport mode to be loud mode i think you need another exhaust system.. And for the final word,its not good to say that it does nothing when its actualy does something. Gread videos as usual anyway. And when will we see the supra get some big power upgrade.

    • @BrosFOURRSpeed
      @BrosFOURRSpeed  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      abdi syahrizal But the functionality is so small it hardly makes a difference. 95% of the added sound is either from the tuning in sport mode or the speakers. Valve is like 5% of what you hear. Not enough to call it functional 🤷🏻‍♂️

    Regarding fake engine sound through speakers:
    Car manufacturers do this because the sound is a huge part of the driving pleasure of a car. A quet car will not be as fun or thrilling to drive no matter how fast it is. So why not make cars loud like they did in the good old days?
    Because there are (lame) restrictions and laws on car emmisions, so much so, that its almost impossible to make a car thats at the same time well sound insulated (so you dont get terrible tire/outdoor/road/wind noises etc) but still hear your own muffler loud and clear at the same time. So they compensate by making the muffler queter, so that it meets regulations, and give you a fake sound through the speakers to make up for it.
    I propose a revolutionary yet simple solution to this problem.
    First manufacturers need to be hoest about it, dont try to fool us into thinking the engine/exhaust is louder than it really is. Embrace the truth. Openly say its a nice sounding muffler, but not a loud one, and you get to hear it in all its glory through your cars sound syste.
    DO give us sound through the speakers BUT the sound must NOT be FAKE.
    Get a microphone and place it in a strategic place to give you a full and real audio feedback of your car. Simple.
    Empower the driver. Give us the option to turn it on or off in the cars settings. The ability to increase or decrease volume of the playback, and to EQ the sound to our liking with adjustable bass/mid/treble.
    No need for FAKE sounds. There are soo many small, sturdy, and cheap microphones that are only about as big as a coin and just as flat. they are cheap and they have superb audio quality.
    lemme hear real exhaust sounds and glorious pops using a quality mic hooked up to the sound system > completely fake sound through sound system.

    • @BrosFOURRSpeed
      @BrosFOURRSpeed  ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah it's cool how they do it. But with my car having a full exhaust, I tuned the sounds off that came through the speakers. Makes the car sound less artificial.

The pops & bangs are artificial too, something to do with the car still igniting the fuel & air in the chamber while the exhaust port is open when you go off the throttle. They can’t make noisy cars anymore thanks to regulations & at the same time customers demand low wind & road noise so they pipe it in. E.v cars used to be near silent a couple of years ago but they changed the law that they have to make an audible noise, so now they all make a fake sound, like a flying saucer or something.

  • @CarGuy11

    The valve is there to prevent drone on highway & it does! Everyone knows the pops are from tuning 🤦‍♂️ Hear the exhaust differences on my channel.

    • @BrosFOURRSpeed
      @BrosFOURRSpeed  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      CarGuy11 I did this test on the highway. The drone difference is negligible with the valve open or closed. The fake engine sound out of the speaks is what makes that ‘drone sound’ while in sport mode. I’ve had the valve disabled and in the open position. Highway cruising is no different 😅

    • @CarGuy11
      @CarGuy11 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Bros FOURR Speed I have the fake sound disabled & there is a difference when applying throttle to maintain speed. It’s the same way on my C7 with valve open there is some drone on highway.

    • @BrosFOURRSpeed
      @BrosFOURRSpeed  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@CarGuy11 Yes there is a difference. But its super negligible. The wind/road noise cancels it out in my opinion. For me, I have to concentrate on actually listening to the change. So its like a 5% difference lol. Not enough of a difference to call it an 'active valve'

    its like this on all cars post 2013 because of emissions regulations. they have to fit higher cell cats or more cats in order to comply. btw its considered active if it has valves. Now, go get a decatted downpipe and tell me if it changes. As with the pops, its just dumping fuel in order to make pops. obviously its part of the tuning.

    You're truly a bro indeed. I've owned a 2014 c63, naturally aspirator, 2017 c63 s with the same valve opening button concept as the Supra. Both cars had a growl like no other, but the Supra has a sound all of its own. I now own a Supra a91 edition. It sounds just the same outside the car as it does inside. How do I know? I've had it on a dyno and used a decibel meter both inside and outside the care. The outside is definitely louder, but just to be clear the valve opening is about performance on BMWs and not sound. Also, the piping of sound in the cockpit is nothing new for plenty of car companies. Today's turbo engines can lose sound completely at high rates of speed so a lot of companies use the sound to aid the driver in shifting, so it's not a gimmick it's a feature, but you have to be a true enthusiast to understand. Also, who puts red rims on a car.
