Here are a whole bunch of VSEPR practice problems for molecules that have 5 or 6 things around the central atom. We'll look at how to solve VSEPR structures and determine bond angles when you're given a Lewis structure. These are the shapes that we'll talk about in this lesson: trigonal bipyramidal, see saw, T-shaped, linear, octahedral, square pyramidal, and square planar.

You really only have to worry about the electrons on the central atom. Great question!

I don't think Ill ever have enough words to thank you for making these videos. I'm a college student and I always feel like a fucking idiot in class because I don't understand what in the world my professor is taking about. Yet I watch your videos and everything makes sense. You deserve the tuition money my professor is being paid to teach me nothing while I learn everything for you!! Thank you so much!!!

Hey Tyler, first of all I just want to say your video's are truly awesome. I am taking AP Chemistry this year; your channel is a great source. Could you possibly make a video series about hybridization? It'd be great if you could! Either way keep up the good work! Thanks again.

wow this is better than crash course. so thorough and the practice problems really helped make sense of VSEPR. thank you for helping me understand what it means for a structure to be based off another one. this is perfect for AP chem! my teacher doesn't really teach us bc he thinks we already are too smart, but this really helped give a ton of information and the visuals were so helpful. you're a pro. thanks man.

You definately have a gift for teaching. I say that because you seem to remember how confusing Chemistry really is. Even though you have a fine grasp of this information you don't rush through the material even though this must be somewhat boring due to the fact you already know the concepts so well. A+ for your skills in explaining things. Hope you keep coming with the videos. Hope to see some stoicheometry, & combustion analysis from you real soon.

Good point, but all of the bond angles are approximations. They vary a little bit in every single molecule (I don't think there's a single molecule with *exactly* a 120º angle between the bonds, for example). So sure, multiple bonds affect the surrounding bonds a *little*, but the amount is within the "room for error" that happens with any of these approximate angles.

My question is, for bent molecules like H2O that have two lone pairs on the central atom, why don't the lone pairs arrange themselves on opposite sides of the atom--- creating a linear structure instead of bent? Is it because of the x, y, and z axis ?
