    Best trainer on TH-cam. He not only explains things in an easy to understand manner, he also models how to implement the training in both low distraction and high distraction environments. This gives me confidence that I can try this at home and on our walks. Love it.

    I love his show and thisjust summarizes and lays out all of the basic methods he uses on the show. What i love about this guide th-cam.com/users/postUgkxKkYeOoCV_w2vPX0CSyVWkhew2c4FYk0d is that you don' need to read the whole book cover to cover ... You can skip to the chapter (lesson) you want to read about. The book is arranged almost as a problem-solving guide ... Here is the problem and here is what you need to know/do to correct it. This man knows his stuff ... But more importantly knows how to teach people how they can work with their pups themselves!

      You have to do a ton of work in an indoor setting with little distraction and slowly add distraction and outdoor work in low distraction environments like the driveway or backyard.

      My daughter found the same as you, that the dog's reactivity was still there, but greatly lessened. Now she goes local dog training classes in addition to Will's courses, and because of all the methods Will gave her, her dog is responding well.
      The dog is alledgedly a Labrador, but never stopped growing and now weighs 6 stone, and he is not fat - just huge. So needs to be obedient because of his size, which scares many people.

    I am doing basic training we learned in classes together every day but having my 2.5-year dog ignore some dogs and people has been a challenge. He is a Brittany and not aggressive but he wants to take control and go to that dog or person. This happens mostly when I have him in a wait and he sees a neighbor he has had interaction with. I cannot distract him with a treat and now I know why. I think I can get my neighbor to work with me in a way similar to what you showed.

      I struggle with a very similar issue. Timing is key on breaking their focus before they load. With my GS, if I let him load it's over.
      Unfortunately it can get much more complex from there. For example, if my dog sees a dog or two from a distance at the start of his walk, the rest of our outting is a breeze. In situations where he gets blindsided (dog right outside our house, popping around a corner, ect) it's immediate reaction and hes tense the rest of the walk.
      I also noticed a big correlation in his reactivity depending on the other dogs owner. If they have their dog in control, mines cool. When the other owners dog is pulling or staring, mines not so cool.
      All this to say there's no simple solution. Not all solutions work for all dogs. You just have to do your best, note behaviours in various conditions, and try to adjust accordingly. Best of luck.

    • @samg8012
      @samg8012 8 หลายเดือนก่อน +9

      It is absolute total bunk that reactivity can be "fixed" in a day. Overcoming reactivity means teaching and learning a new or different behaviour. This takes months to years. Much of the reactivity is fear based and you can't make a dog unafraid in a day. It is baby steps. Keeping far from triggers and ever so slowly move closer. Months and months of work. There is no miracle cure for reactiveness , regardless of what ceaser Milan shows (which is similar to dog daddy who overwhelms the dog and shuts them down to make it look like the dog is fixed).
      You are doing nothing wrong. It's a long hard road, just keep taking those baby steps.

    • @nickpanacci3055
      @nickpanacci3055 8 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      @@samg8012 Well said. Behavioural changes definitely take time. Years ago I adopted an extremely Alpha JRT with outstanding prey drive. When I contacted the vet he disclosed he had advised the previous owners move on thinking he would be problematic. NGL, he was a massive PITA for the first year. But with patience and dedication, he became a model dog I could walk off leash.
      That's why I like the advice on this channel. There's a heavy focus on bonding and relationship building which are so crucial to long term success in all environments.

      As a new dog owner, I really like the comments in this thread. My husband is the dog lover but doesn't seem very knowledgeable when it comes to behavior training so it's been a lot trying to educate myself on dog training. Definitely seeing that consistency is key, and slowly working through that desensitization. Unfortunately one hopes for a quick fix especially with large dogs, but it truly isn't the case.
      There's still much road to cover with our 2 new dogs, but Will's videos have been a god send and I've already been seeing progress

      Never try to attempt aggression training by yourself, you could end up making the dog worse, making the dog fearful and possibly getting yourself hurt. Go to a professional trainer that does fear free positive reinforcement training. NEVER go to a trainer that punishes your dogs, uses choke chains or electric collars, yells or hits the dog. Dog aggression comes from a high level of fear and anxiety, if a dog trained uses those methods on a dog that is already fearful, it will just make it worse and then the dog will end up attacking. Fearful dogs need to feel loved and safe but some dog trainers will not do that which sucks... There isn't many regulations or rules for dog trainers which is why a lot of dogs end up worse. I recommend going to group training classes at petsmart, they use positive reinforcement. If your dog can't handle group lessons at first then they can also do private lessons.
      I highly recommend doing confidence training. If a dog doesn't feel confident then they will get scared. Confidence training can be done a lot of ways, just find something that they don't like and turn it into something fun. For example, if your dog is scared of rain then play it on your TV or phone at a very low volume and give them treats every time they get scared. Then they will slowly start to learn that loud noises = food and treats. If your dog doesn't like treats you can also use verbal praise, petting, toys or anything your dog likes.

      It's usually not actual aggression. The majority of the time, it's fear-bases reactivity. That's why communication is so important. The dog gets scared, barks and lunges at whatever it's afraid of, and then whatever it is goes away or the dog is pulled away and is essentially rewarded for that behavior.

    How long are your training sessions and how long are in between? Is the dog run a bit tired beforehand or fresh from a nap? How long do you insist they walk besides you and how often are they allowed a break to pee during a walk?
    Could you make a video about the specifics of the training sessions moreso than the progress of the individual dog featured?
    I struggle to find any good balance with my lab. Sometimes he is impossible if he has to much energy, but other times he just gives up on good behavior if I try and run some fetch right before training walking nicely.

      Me too, my cane corso is like this rotti, but wants to play unfortunately he is so strong we're struggling I have to keep both hands on the lead! Or I'll think about rehoming

    My 12month old cane corso is so strong I can't get him to do this, I just need both hands on his lead at all times, unfortunately I'm now looking to rehome him😢 or worse. if I could get him to a trainer to do this for me it would change everything, brilliant video as usual Will x

      If you feel you must rehome your Cane Corso, please find a reputable rescue. Possibly a reputable Mastiff rescue. These are beautiful, loving, loyal, protective dogs. I miss my Caesar. No dog can compare to him. He was my soul. Best of luck to you.

      @alexandrajones4991 ah thank you for your response, my boy is now turning a corner, the last week I am able to take him on walks by myself (on a prong collar) so I feel alot better, definitely the most loving dog of all the large breeds we've had, so hopefully he won't be going anywhere. Thanks again Chris

      @@chrissey663 Wonderful! So glad to hear it. In my opinion, the Cane Corso is the greatest dog breed. They tick all the boxes. In terms of prong collars, I always use the Herm Sprenger prong collar which is said to be the safest for the dog. Enjoy your beloved Cane Corso. He will be your loyal protector as Caesar was mine.

    My 11week old puppy is fantasric at this in the garden and away from people/cars, walks amazingly loose leash, but soon as even seeing or smelling/hearing people hes gone. Doesnt care for treats, food, attention or toys 😭

      Keep working on it! 11 weeks old is still very young and plenty of time still for socialising new sites, smells and sounds. Keep up with training and praising engagement from your pup and correct/redirect the unwanted behaviour and you'll be fine ☺️

    Rottweilers with their big smile on their face, always look dopey as shit 😁. I get why people are scared of them, but, like almost all dogs, if trained well, they are just a big soft baby

    Nothing seems to help with my 9 month old puppy. She is a cane corso x pit bull x german shepard mix and very strong in both physique and mind. Inside she follows me and listens. Outside SHE DOES NOT GIVE A SINGE SHIT what I have to say. Even if I had a wagyu steak with me she doesn't care. She always has her nose on the ground and she wants to meet every dog we cross. This kind of training definitely doesn't work on my dog. I don't know what to do.

    My dog doesnt do anything for food or toys and every method of building engagement I've seen requires that.

    This could have been a 1 minute video telling us to buy a slip leash and how to use it properly. He couldn't do any of this without it.
