    I had a 1980 T Saratoga right before I moved into my 414. Great plane. Prepared me well for my move up into the 414. My wife and I used to take the back seats out and load our 10 speed bikes and fly to the small islands in Lake Erie (Put In Bay, Kelly's Island), Traverse City and Mackinac Island.

    Used to own a 2001 Saratoga II TC. You did a great job updating the avionics!

      Thanks. I have no regrets 4 years later. Of course, If money was no object , I could have done much more.

    Hey I know that guy! Still not enough buttons within easy reach for a co-pilot though. 😁

    What kinds of mounts and cameras did you use for this trip? I'm about to buy a Saratoga II TC and would love to be able to show off this great airframe and our travels.

      Just a GoPro, look for MyPilotPro GoPro mount. Congrats on your plane! Lots of adventures ahead. (Don’t film for the first 50 hours so you can focus on the flying.)

    Great video guys! Some of the "usual suspects" flying around CYGK!

    Does the overhead panel restrict your forward visibility? I’m a tall Pilot looking at a Sara as a possible purchase.

      Not at all. I'm 6'2". I love the overheard panel, and it's well above my line of vision.

    I'm flying a plane with a 650. I use foreflight on ipad with Stratus receiver for weather. Any comment on xm weather vs the weather from stratus/foreflight?

    • @johnandrew58
      @johnandrew58 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I think what you're asking is really XM weather vs ADS-B weather (which you're seeing on Foreflight) . I greatly prefer XM but I to use both. Honestly, I could not imagine flying without the XM, especially IFR which is how I fly most of the time. It's well worth the money.

    Hello. I’m very interested in the actual speed. You said in the video 155 knots At 15.5 GPH and 8.500ft. Is that the maximum continuous cruise setting ? If not could you tell What’s the maximum cruise settings are and the corresponding speed and fuel burn ? That would be HIGHLY appreciated:)! Thanx ! (Ps. Is This an HP Saratoga or turbo charged?) thanx again!

    • @johnandrew9129
      @johnandrew9129 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      It’s a 1996 HP. Not Turbo. That’s Economy cruise. Here is the power table. Economy is about 155 knots. It varies with altitude of course. I rarely choose to go faster than that to not waste too much fuel. I believe Normal is about 160-162 and High speed is about 170-175 knots. If I recall correctly. I have never once used high speed in about 600 hours in this plane.

      @johnandrew9129 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Sorry I did not realize you can’t attach a photo. Normal fuel burn is about 18 gph and high speed is 27-29 gph ( crazy). Economy is 15-15.5

    Does this fly basically the same as a Cherokee?

    • @johnandrew58
      @johnandrew58 ปีที่แล้ว

      I owned a Cherokee until 2016 when I bought the Saratoga. They are very similar in handling. The main differences are: retractable gear (had to do 10 hours with an instructor to get insurance); variable pitch prop; different speeds; landing technique (keep power on into flare, landing it more like a jet because that long and heavy nose can drop quickly) and taxing (nose makes it tricky). But I found the transition amazingly easy.

    Needs a proper engine monitor and you're good to go

    • @johnandrew9129
      @johnandrew9129 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      It has an older JPI ( far left). It works well but yes it would be nice to have a larger engine monitor display that consolidates all the data on one screen. But it would only display all the same data I already have , but I could get rid of some steam gauges. Also , the state of the art large screen PFDs and MFDs all integrate engine data now, and they render even the newest , fanciest engine monitors obsolete. I love my Aspen displays but might eventually replace them , and that would negate the need to buy a separate engine monitor.

    The continuous music was irritating beyond words.

      Seriously? I always find Sushee's video's really well done. I never appreciated how good they are until I tried making a few myself. It's not easy learning how to make really engaging interviews.

    Panel has too much stuff and is far too busy.
