Congrats, so did you move your zettelkasten to your new home or are you keeping it in the separate office building? It's great that you guys can just put some relaxing music and read together, and you're not forced to abscond while she watches realities or something 😄
I agree with this approach. However, my problem is at this point I can't afford to buy the books, So I use the Library and interlibrary loan. I therefore, feel a need to finish each of those books. I can see doing it with books at my local library (I can get them again rather easily) My question is how would you install a BIB card of an incomplete book read? I feel if I just install it in my bib box it could be lost (like in a analog Kindle). I guess I should have an incomplete read chaos box. Anyway, any thoughts?
Definitely a big win for ADHD shit-weasel’s like myself who struggle with trying to focus on the same content for long periods of time. I tend to ride the waves of hyper focus /interest in a topic. This means either finishing the entire book in one sitting, or putting it down and not coming back for weeks. Here’s hoping the bib card method can help me out! Have you got any more tips for selecting the right information for my bib cards? The very first book I tried this on was yours, and I ended up with 4 separate cards by the time I finished it. I’m sure this will get easier with time and practice, but for now I’m using the book to main card method more.
Scott, do you worry about creating an ADHD habit? I used to do this a lot, switching from book to book. Lately, I've been trying to extend my reading past the point of disinterest in order to develop a stronger ability to concentrate longer. Is there a balance to be struck?
I think it's best to have a "Hard Skill" book (that you crank on and push past discomfort). And a Pleasure Reading book where, if you get bored, you move on.
I disagree that reading digitally is inherently worse, as it works perfectly fine for me. This may be anecdotal or unsuitable for others, but here's how my setup works: - I have a designated tablet for reading, which is apart from my other devices - PC and phone. - I use ReadEra for managing my library. It has categories for organization, and a list of recently opened books. - Now, it does allow highlighting and notes thereon. For me personally, it's a bit finnicky and I tend not to bother highlighting, unless I think I'll really want to refer back to something later. - Last thing, I put the reading app within reach of my thumb - bottom-right. The browser and other things are on various pages and the furthest away from there. So overall, if I'm using the tablet (as opposed to my phone or PC), I usually intend to read. And when I do, the reading app is easily accessible. When I open it, the last book I was reading opens up. I have dabbled in Zettelkasten before (both digital and analog). Using bibcards with digital books seemed the same for me. Now I'm reading your book and I've set up an Antinet, so I'll see how it goes this time. Thanks for all the insight.

Have you ever, like, create a space, or a box, for books that you are reading in progress? Rather than putting them back in the shelf?
Yep
