Man, the faux-sword idea certainly has legs. Also, I love how the mythology of this world is influencing its iconography so naturally. It really reminds me how one of our symbol for medicine (two snakes around a staff) is actually from the Greek god mercury. Also also, I got to give props for having a fantasy world without magical healing or advanced prosthetics. So many of the one's I've seen have those as given elements. Keep up the great work!
Thank you very much! Yes, so many things in our world have unexpected or strange origins, it’s a pretty freeing thing to keep in mind when worldbuilding!
Great details in this one. I love the healer in a low fantasy setting. So many medicinal possibilities! The sword containing his various vials is a wonderful addition. Nice work!
Man, thank you so much! I’m just about to go to bed, but I’ll respond properly to all the great points you make tomorrow. In the meantime, know that I appreciate your input a lot! :D Cheers!
Alright, I'm finally back at the computer! Here we go: - As always, very good points! I thought a bit about the finicky-ness of the gauntlets when drawing. If you look at the right hand you can see that the fingers are not attached to the gauntlet. They'd be made in a way so you could slip your fingers loose and do stuff without removing the gauntlet. With the fist closed it would "pull" the gauntlet over the fingertips so it wouldn't come off when holding a sword. For the mask I figured he wouldn't wear it most of the time put out it on if combat is imminent. - I think you're right... I bet you could still have some pouches or other things close to the shoulders without being in the way too much but probably not as wide and big as I drew them. - On this point I have no defence! I wanted the armor to look like it belonged on the less fancy end of the spectrum, and less complicated pauldrons really do the trick. I was thinking that they would move freely if they were only attached on top of the shoulder and around the arm (but be much less protective in certain poses than a "proper" pauldron) and that I had seen examples of this, but looking for it now I can't seem to find any real historical ones... - This was a mistake, plain and simple! If I go back and change the drawing I will make properly sized arm holes. Not only is it the "correct" thing it also looks much better. I am familiar with the spring-loaded plates you describe, and it's a mechanism I adore! To be consistent with the worldbuilding that would only appear on the armor of far wealthier Emnonites or Maraki, though. I too want to see more armor in every possible situation, haha! Sorry for the belated reply, and thanks again for the great input :)
