White Sands was CLOSED! Tips for Visiting White Sands National Park
It's important to know that White Sands National Park does occasionally close. We visited in May and the main Dunes road was closed due to an F-16 from Holloman Air Force Base that crashed in the desert. The Dunes Life Trail was open so explored this area and it was still beautiful.
Special Thanks to the National Park Service who has downloadable video clips of the fossilized footprints that have been found in the park dating human activity in this area 23,000 years ago! It's absolutely astounding!

White Sands National Park has an other-worldly beauty to it. I would bet sledding down those sand dunes would be a whole lot of fun. Glad to see you got to enjoy a bit of the park even though much of it was closed. Thanks for sharing it with us!

Shame that most of the national park was closed, seemed like it would have been incredible judging by the small area you visited. Hopefully you managed to get all that sand off your clothes! - I didn't know sledding on sand dunes was a thing, you've now given me a new item for my bucket list 😂

I’ll never forget years ago when we took our dog and there was sand in our minivan for months after!! 😂😂 this is a cool place!
