Story 3: if the teacher thinks being Anemic isn't a valid reason not to give blood then I'm seriously worried about the kids she's teaching especially those with special needs. The people at the blood drive couldn’t accept her blood anyways due to her condition.

Personally I think the mom deserves a bigger score in the blood drive story. It's unbelievable that she's telling her own daughter that she should have just sat there and let herself be yelled at and harassed over her medical condition.
From experience, my mom was incredibly fast to go to the school herself to set things straight.
That teacher deserves to be punished. Harassing students into giving blood is so messed up, let alone forcing them to give a reason "Good enough" to skip out. And if a medical condition isn't a good enough reason, then what would have been? And what was she going to do? Try to march them down and make them give blood?

Honestly, the mom should have a higher score. You'd think as the PARENT she would be aware how bad it would be for an anemic to give blood.
I also feel like it would be a waste of everyone's time if she tried to give blood anyway, when I would give blood, they would test your iron beforehand to make sure it was safe for you to donate. Best case scenario, she fails that and had to go back to class anyway. Worst case is they don't test her, she tries to give blood, and she has to be hospitalized due to severe anemia.
That teacher needs to be fired, agreed.

@@misscuttlefish while I agree on this, I personally would've had a different response though I still think OP was justified my pettiness would be different instead of going to report her at the office. I would've just straight gone down to donate blood to get away from the teacher then actively told the people down there that I was forced by my teacher to come down but I'm anemic and she said being anemic isn't a good enough reason to not give blood. Then I would have the red cross or whoever people tell my teacher off and give the medical opinion on why that's dumb and then I'd report her.
I give blood. All the time. And I still would've caused a ruckus if I was being forced to just because someone shouldnt be doing that.

So, for the breast milk story, I have a story. My sister noticed my niece had an eye infection. She took her to their Dr. My niece is only 9 months old at the time. The Dr asked her if she was breastfeeding still. My sister told him yes. He told her to put her breast milk onto my nieces eyes to cure the infection. Apparently, breast milk does have some antibiotics or something. She did this, and my nieces eyes were better by the next morning. It's bizarre, but it works. That being said, I would never let someone do that to my son without my permission.

Edit: So I've been re-listening to these videos and a memory popped up. When I was 7 (my sis 6) we moved in with my grandmother along with my mom and my grandmother had insulin kept in the fridge to store and needles in the pantry because she had to take insulin everyday. At 6 and 7, we were explicitly told to never touch it without permission, like taking the medicine to my grandmother and we knew not to touch it. If a 6 and 7 year old can figure out not to touch medicine, a 12 year old is more than capable.

Story 1: you know I'm pretty sure if CPS heard this story they would immediately start investigating your sister, because a 12 year old being that desperate to get high they would steel a very sick person's medication believing it's painkillers, and having enough knowledge to inject themselves with it would probably be a sign they might have done this before. 12 is old enough to know not to touch someone's medicine like that so if your sister does trying to take you to court I feel like a decent lawyer would not only get you cleared but also turn the tables on your sister being a very reckless parent that hasn't taught her child not to other people stuff, especially medicine.
And since he specifically did this with the intention to steal I don't think it's fair to say OP's responsible because it's so clearly wasn't an accident, and of anything the sister needs to pay for the medicine her son stole. Just because people want to really lower the bar for this generation doesn't it mean they shouldn't be punished for making very obvious decisions.

The cells are stickier, they clump together more easily, and they can block important blood vessels when those clots can't be as easily broken up. Given that the teacher was the bully, leaving class and going to the office to report the incident was absolutely the correct thing to do.

Story 1: 12 is that age where you can really easily spot red flags in a child. They're capable of adult level thought processes but not experienced enough to properly use them. A 12yo thinking about injecting himself w another kid's pain meds to get high is very telling about their life, whether that's at home or with friends.
My best friend, back when we were 12, was getting big into the underage rave scene. He was going to raves with his friend group, getting into drugs, and just doing really stupid shit. His parents aren't bad parents (a pushover white dad and a fiery quarter-asian mom that played heavily into the tiger mom stereotype to her own detriment sometimes), and his older brother was a bit stuck up but a decent enough person. His oldest sibling, his sister, was a fucking nightmare to him bc she was Clearly dealing with some internal shit, and she took it out on her youngest brother a lot, sometimes extremely violently. He would go out and party all night with his friends to get out of a house that was rife with problems caused by his sister's instability. The drugs and risky behaviors were an escape from a situation that his parents couldn't even fix, and I'm amazed that he didn't end up like his friend that overdosed at 13. He only stepped away from that lifestyle because he missed my birthday and his dog's graduation from puppy school on the same day bc he was out getting high and being a dumbass kid.
That 12yo boy needs a therapist ASAP. Whether the parents are at fault or not, this is a Big red flag that needs to be addressed sooner rather than later.

To add to Dabney's comment: a PICC line is not only "taped" to your arm via a dressing that covers the entry-site of the tube, the first inch of the line as well as a couple squared inches of skin to protect the patient from bacteria and any type of infections, but it's sewn into your arm because the tube goes straight to you heart/just above your heart and must not be able to move.

This is one of many stories that I will never forget from my childhood. it involves cocaine. My father was a hospital pharmacist. There are medical reasons for using pure cocaine in a patient. His pharmacy, in the hospital, had some, a different hospital needed some, but didn't have it in stock. It wasn't an emergency, so my father, being licenced and all that jazz, brought home the medical grade cocaine to transfer it to the other hospital (with all the paperwork). I was about 12 at the time. My brothers were 6 and 4. We were told, in a very stern voice, that this paper bag is NOT TO BE TOUCHED!!!! Guess what we didn't touch in the refrigerator? The bag of cocaine. The child in the first story has some problems. Intervention is necessary.

4:26 I dont think you paid attention in the 90s when they showed just how often children were overdosing because things werent properly locked up. Even if children are responsible, you never keep medicines easy to access for ANYONE except you (the guardian) or your daughter (the recipient) assuming it's legally advisable to let her as a minor. By not properly locking up medicine, you may be endangering your kids life negligently by providing crime of opportunity to thieves...which may turn into murder or assault of opportunity/necessity...wiring and medicines are very much in demand for theft , theyre worth the risk to life to the average armed thief. But yeah, legally you could be held reliable because it isnt about how responsible your children are, its about how youre depending on their responsibility rather than your own protection...which is your responsibility as a parent. So i dont think the hospital bill is yours, but a CPS visit may be yours!

Yes, in both cases the milk ends up in a similar location, because they basically connect to the same location, but considering that one of the recommendations on the .gov site specifically advocates against bottlefeeding in the case that children are repeatedly getting multiple ear infections, that implies to me that it's a case of the source, rather than the actual substance. IE, fresh breast milk has no real chance for bad germs to propagate in it (unless the mother's sick), and as such the child has less to worry about for it getting into the eustachian tube than something that has had a chance for germs to proliferate.

@@lorilancaster5917 Yeah, we had two blood drives a year at my old high school. I remember my biology teacher saying that there was nothing against us getting it done, but we'd get extra credit if we did. That makes more sense to me than shaming students for not doing it.

For story 3 I totally empathize with op. My mom can’t give blood, she has to take meds for a heart condition.
I might be able to give blood, but I would have to stop taking my meds, which is dangerous because they keep me mentally stable.
Besides that though, I just hate needles lol. I’ve had panic attacks when given too long between them prepping it, and actually poking me.

Story 3: mom and those other “friends” are stupid to take the teachers side, that teacher needs to be fired for trying to force a student to do something
I love rslashes response to it

Story 3: NTA. Drop your so-called friends who told you to shut up and deal with it, what do they have to gain for siding with the teacher like that other than losing OP as a friend? And no, you shouldn't wait until lunch, the teacher might tell a twisted version of her side. Kudos to dad for taking your side though.

I know what they would say if I showed up to donate blood at the blood bank. Me: “Hello. I’m here to donate blood. Oh, I’m diagnosed with muscular dystrophy by the way.” Them: “Thanks for thinking of us, but we don’t want your blood. Good bye.” 😅

The teacher not accepting a medical reason for not donating blood l, but wanting another reason to not donate is pretty wild. I bet if op said it goes against her religion the teacher would have accepted that. (Edit: ops friends that are divided are just another brick in the wall)

    • @dinlupus3196

it doesn't even matter what the reason is, she shouldn't try to force people to donate , whatever the reason is. I don't like that kind of person, those who feel like they are oh-so-good willed and everyone who doesn't do the same as them are evil and selfish.
its like forcing someone to donate money, the cause is good but forcing it just make you some kind of extortionist

I seriously doubt that the teacher would have accepted a religious reason, they sound like the type who thinks their own opinion is the only correct one and everyone else just needs to fall in line.

A PICC line is a tube that is inserted like an IV and goes straight into the heart to deliver harsher medications than an IV can't handle, Dabney, they can be removed. A permanent port is where you have something strapped to you all of the time and take it home, so OP got confused there. My sibling has had PICC lines, and now has a permanent port, because of their health conditions.

The main issue for the breastmilk story was the fact that the SIL didn't ask the mom first and explain that (apparently, according to some of the comments I've read) breastmilk does have infection curing properties.

Mom has to answer for SOMETHING in Story 1. Either she shoots up in front of him, she's mega, MEGA neglectful and lets him act up at home, or she somehow directed him to do this. Or she has a boyfriend or a friend who shoots up in front of him. Or something equally bad - a 12 year old kid doesn't just shoot up on random drugs with no outside influen e

Story #1 ‐ The nephew doesn't live at OP's house, and OP shouldn't have to protect her medicine from people who don't live with her, especially not a 12 year old. I'm not surprised the nephew knew how to get the medicine out the jar with needles. I am suprised he knew how to inject himself. That's scary. Also I would love to be the judge in the case that the sister brought. I promise my face would not be impartial even if I had to be.

i think theres a bigger problem in the first story than a hospital bill, its the fact that a 12 year old wants to get HIGH and that he was able to inject himself with a needle...yeah thats the bigger problem, also the picc line, i can relate...those things SUCK
