The movie didn't explain it too well but in the book, the reason why they feel compelled to bury their dead in the burial ground is because the town is haunted by the Wendigo. It compels grief stricken people to bury their dead up there so it can control them etc.

In the book, Gage's face is disfigured with one side sagging from being torn and stitched back up, plus the Windigo that powers the cematary talks and taunts Judd about his wife. Basically the book is even more messed up. Cool to see Gage eating his victims because the Windigo is a cannibal spirit among us Ojibwe.

The theory is that Ellie can shine like Danny from the shining that’s why she knows all the shit that’s going on. Also, with everything that happens in the movie, the theory is that it’s the wendigo manipulating everyone’s decisions. Judd showing Louis the Indian burial ground, Louis burying his son in the burial ground, the trucks speeding through that area are all said to be manipulated by the wendigo.

    Bwahahahahaha🤣🤣😂😂😅😅
Flippin’ hysterical!!! As I’ve said before -you, sir, are a delight!
Yes- there are indeed pet cemeteries, both as their own entities & then sometimes you’ll find them as a subsection of ‘people cemeteries’. The place my father is buried in FL has this set up & there’s even a 3rd subsection dedicated to LE canines.
My husband & I have been doing senior & special needs dog rescue for about 16yrs now. We personally choose private cremation when it’s time to say goodbye to one of our pups😔 If they’ve a really special toy or kerchief etc we sometimes send it along to be cremated w them. And we get plaster paw prints of all. We have A LOT of paw prints. And other than each couldn’t stay longer- zero regrets. Lots of paw prints w no regrets is what they all deserve❤️🐾 Also trying to start a movement: We let our pets go; we don’t put them down💔❤️‍🩹❤️

When I saw this, I was with my girlfriend and an earthquake occurred right at a scary part. Ceiling tiles started falling from the small, narrow theater we were in and everybody jumped up and clogged the single isle to the exit, everybody except me and my girlfriend because we both recognized instantly that the exit was blocked and we were in a hopeless situation. We just looked at each other. Because the exit was bottle necked and no one was able to exit fast enough, the shaking stopped and staff checked the theater and some of us finished watching the movie. Interesting experience!

MANY earthquakes happen every day in California. You can look up Cal Tech earthquake and they will give you continuing and ruining seismic meters of earthquakes in California along with the magnitude and depth. This one occurred in the city of Brea when this movie was still fresh in the theaters. I think it was like a 3.2 but I think it was downgraded a little later, BUT it was centered in Brea which is a very tiny town in North Orange County. So, we were literally on top of the earthquake so it shook as hard as the Whittier quake that was 5.0. That one really rocked and I was about 20-25 miles from that one when it happened.

We experienced the same helpless feeling during the Northridge quake. It happened early in the morning and me and the same girlfriend were at this point living together and we had a baby in a playpen next to us as we were lying in bed. That one started off rolling real hard and we are both asleep when it started but it was already too late to react. We just stared into each other's eyes and held hands and it was over already. There was no use trying to run outside as we were in an apartment on the third floor in the middle of the complex...there was simply no time. Fortunately, there was no physical damage to our place. We were living in an apartment on the border of Fullerton and the city of Placentia. That was a devastating quake for the San Fernando Valley. I don't remember the magnitude, but it was huge and still very much talked about today.

    • @ghostsquirrel8739
      @ghostsquirrel8739 ปีที่แล้ว +1

@@fionnmaccumhaill3257 Yeah I’m from SoCal and I know all about CalTech’s Quakewatch and where Brea is and I remember the Whittier quake. I’m calling bullshit on your story. So you’re saying that a 3.2, which you think was downgraded, was enough to shake loose ceiling tiles and make people stampede for the exits? There’s just no way. Even if you were directly over the epicenter. Also you can check on these things and there were no damage causing quakes in OC or anywhere else during this film’s theatrical run. So yeah, bullshit.

King loves his flawed protagonists. To me the story is more heartbreaking than scary. Reading the book, my first thought was that upon touring the property and seeing the road traffic, my first act before moving would have been to put up a fence... just say'n.

King actually horrified himself with this one. He and his young family really did live in a house like this with a road full of speeding trucks AND a real pet cemetery. Smucky the cat and “He was obedient “ are from his real life. His daughter lost her beloved Smucky to the road and King heard her jumping on bubble wrap in the garage that night screaming, “Smucky was MY cat! Let God get his own cat!” And King thought that was terrific (Ellie says it in the book). More terrifying, his boy Owen really did run for the road with a truck coming. Luckily, he tripped before he got there and was fine. But King explored the dreadful what-if in the book and it scared him so much he put it away not intending to publish it. He had to come up with one more book for a contract with a publisher he was leaving, so he gave them this.
It’s such a raw exploration of grief and how not being able to face death will eat everything else in ones life. The book is really really good, but a hard read.

@@83gemm One of my aunt's lost her only daughter this way to a coal mining truck in W.VA. She got off the school bus and had to cross the road and the truck came flying around the corner and hit her. I believe she was about 12 years old, and that's old enough to know the dangers but still unable to react fast enough in the situation to save herself. Children die in auto-related accidents this way all the time with cars passing stopped buses or not stopping on the ongoing traffic side, due to so many people not paying attention as they drive (it only takes a second to miss a vehicle stopping in front of you and you not being able to not crash). Also, many people don't actually know the rules of driving where buses are concerned. So many cars passed my daughter's bus on the same side of the street when it stopped. Luckily the kids were all getting off on our side of the road at that location because it was really bad. I definitely understand how he felt when that almost happened to him. My parents probably felt the same horror when I slid under a riding lawnmower when I was 4. Luckily I still have my foot, just have scars & pain from lots of walking or in the water for too long. But they never did like horror movies. I can understand why.

This movie has like two of the saddest moments I've seen in a horror movie. The one that you pointed out where Louis is hugging his son after he dug him up.
And the other one is where he injects the syringe into his son and he started to cry. It's as if for that brief moment his son returned to his normal self and cried in pain.

Fun Fact: Stephen King was present on location for most of the shooting of the film. The area it was shot in was only twenty minutes away from his home in Bangor, Maine.
All Too Real Fact: Actor Brad Greenquist had said in an interview that while in his gruesome makeup for the role of Victor Pascow, no one would sit near him while the cast and crew were having lunch.
Casting Choice Fact: The role of Zelda, Rachel's terminally ill sister, was played by a man. Director Mary Lambert wanted something be "off about Zelda" and her scenes to frighten the audience but did not believe that a 13-year old girl was scary enough.

She couldn't finish it, had to put it down. He asked her if she didn't like it? She replied, "It's effective...too effective." If you haven't read the book, it is truly horrific. One of the really cool things about the work of Stephen King is that a ton of it takes place in the same universe. Two unrelated stories might mention something that happened in another town or a character might have similar abilities to a character in another story because they are all happening in the same world. It is basically the same way comic book universes work. One of the abilities a few characters have across multiple stories is "the shine" (as seen in The Shining). Some are weaker than others. When you said "the little girl has powers" she was "shining".

Under the arc of a weather stain boards
    Ancient goblins and warlords
Come out of the ground, not making a sound
The smell of death is all around
And the night when the cold wind blows
    No one cares, nobody knows
I don't want to be buried in a pet sematary
I don't want to live my life again
I don't want to be buried in a pet sematary

Follow Victor to the sacred place
    This ain't a dream, I can't escape
Molars and fangs, the clicking of bones
    Spirits moaning among the tombstones
And the night, when the moon is bright
    Someone cries, something ain't right
I don't want to be buried in a pet sematary
I don't want to live my life again
I don't want to be buried in a pet sematary
I don't want to live my life again
The moon is full, the air is still
All of a sudden I feel a chill
Victor is grinning, flesh is rotting away
Skeletons dance, I curse this day
And the night when the wolves cry out
Listen close and you can hear me shout
I don't want to be buried in a pet sematary

This was awesome! The movie was solidly true to the book, but the only thing I wish they'd explained better was that, once you'd been to the burial ground, there was an irresistible supernatural pull to return that took over all your reasoning. It explains why anyone would go back, or why they would show it to anyone else.

If you got injured you had to find your own way home, even if that meant crawling. Gage was way too young to be unsupervised regardless, but the 80s were a wild time lol.
