    The thought of having to run an indie brand fills me with anxiety (pattern making, sizing, finding materials, marketing) but in the fictional scenario where I would be able to do it I would;
    -only make old school designs
    -focus on sweet, gothic and classic-with-a-dark-edge-to-it ala early VM
    -focus on items/garments/cuts we don't see much anymore such as bustier skirt sets, maxi length dresses like meta and btssb used to do, roomwear (lounge wear and sleepwear), floppy brim bonnets, loads of cotton velveteen pieces
    -do all dresses, skirts and blouses in 3 different sizes like meta does because they manage to cover such a huge range of measurements without doing more than 3 sizes
    -no polyester lining. I would look at alternatives for more breathable and comfortable linings.
    -finally get a pinboard (for ironing velvet/velveteen/corduroy) and a great serger because the expense wil be justified
    -make garments with lots of coording options by including detachable elements (collars, cuffs, detachable lower sleeves, etc)

    If I had my own lolita brand, I'd love to incorporate unusual motifs and color schemes. I'd LOVE to have a princess and the frog inspired print (We need more frogs and toads!).

    You should look at historical clothing, worth gowns have messy interiors too. Not every designer is perfect. You just have to keep learning and getting better.

      That makes me feel a bit better about how messy my sewing is :)

    While I don't make full garments, my brand Kira Kira Kawaii Shoppe tries to use more direct historical fashion references! In the past I've carried fanchons (with plans to make more for this summer!) and mob caps, and at the moment I've got quite a few pockets inspired by the ones worn in the 18th century. This year I've got quite a few ideas for more historical styles in my upcoming releases!~
    By the way when you were talking about historical not-purses people used, did you mean reticules? :3c

      That's a good point, maybe from now on when I'm trying to decide whether or not to buy lolita clothes I'll have to think about whether it would fit in with my imaginary brand.
