I usually wear Lolita to church and whenever I go out to eat or to the mall. Not a lot of places, but since I don't leave the house often, I try to be in coord whenever I can.
I didn’t wear a lot of Lolita the past year because I had depression issues dealing with life events. I’m not working right now but since my mental health is better I’ve been wearing Lolita more. Even if it’s for a few hours to just go out for errands or a quick walk, it helps sooth my soul. I also have a lot of easy to coord solids and skirts which make it easy to make comfortable casual coords.
I try to wear my lolita clothing in varying degrees of 'lolita-ness' depending on my mood: most casual, throw a frilly cutsew or blouse on top of normie jeans or skirt with some fun jewelry/accessories. Regular casual lolita - wearing a cutsew and skirt, or simpler JSK and blouse. Depending on my mood and the weather, I may wear them without a petti and waist ties so it's more comfy sitting around the house (or just put on the petti and waist ties if I'm going out and I want to be appropriately floofy). And then full lolita for events or because I want a dress up day - the whole coord, complete with underthings, petti, jewelry, fancier headwear, and so on. I've learned that if I save my fancy clothes for 'special occasions' they just never get worn. So to echo another commenter, you spent your money on those clothes and you should wear them whenever you feel like. And you don't necessarily always have to adhere to lolita 'rules' when you do. :)
The answer is: stop giving a shit what other people say, and wear it everywhere!! Going to get an oil change? Wear Lolita! Going to a doctor’s appointment? Dress up! Going to breakfast with friends over the weekend? Wear your favorite JSK. Either wear it as Lolita, or wear it without a petticoat! The more you do it, the easier it gets. You spent YOUR hard earned money on these clothes, and they are MEANT to be worn.
I can relate lol, I work and study and thus have not much time for meetups. Doesn't help that I have pets and can't just leave them alone for hours. What I found helpful is wearing Lolita in my flat; while filming or working. I also wear Lolita each time I go out alone to sit in a cafe and work. I think one needs to make up space for the things we love, and since I don't want to rely on anyone else's plans, I make my own plans with myself. Embrace the Lonelita lifestyle if you want to wear Lolita independantly from your comm. :D
I'll have to start doing that too, just wearing Lolita at home or sitting in a cafe. You're definitely right about making space for the things we love.

Like diamondthestorm, I wear lolita to church every week. Even if you don't attend church, Sunday is a great day to make a point to dress nice since you're no longer working thereon. Also as to the mud and rain: Bodyline for washability!
yea I feel you I am not lolita nor harajuku, but 40-50's railroad as a course of volenteering as do cosplay, but I havent been to con since 2019 since covid would like to again but we haven't had the con that used to be here, and I havent really seen the reason to go to chicago for a con as the guests I am not interested in so far, the price like everything else is though the roof, and they were still making people wear masks till last year, I cant see being in the summer heat and suffacating as is and then have to cover my face when I already cant breath, also there is the larger politization of certain things, that used to be more live and let live that and I have gotten back into watching dirt track racing, and going into the pits to watch and talk with the drivers, several let me hang out with them a little and talk, and well its indiana home of the indy 500 racing is in our states ethos and doing historical railroading the way we dress is not far off from how the guys and girls dress for church where I go, very traditional people dress up, the ladies will ware solid print dresses or floral prints often times or somewhat like a less revealing cottage core or mori kei, the guys were suites or button down shirts many also wear hats before and after, and will often cook out and have a cigar or pipe and maybe a beer or cocktail while the kids play basketball or frisbee that is afterward and fellowship, they call it the atm group alcohol tobbaco and meat. and many do some sort of crafts as well soaps, oranaments, baked goods which they sell after the service on the regularly schedualed fellowship twice a month the atm group meets after the later service on the off weekends. but as for me I would love to go to con or do steampunk of sorts but the operatunities are fewer.
@@EmbroideredDoll eh well its steam railroader, but I got the hickory striped hat and things that would fit in early 20th century industrial and american railroader like around pre 1920, which still fits into steam age stuff, not really like edwardian or old west but still industrial era, and there is at least one oppratunity to cosplay at the cherryblossom festival but thats about all we have for straight japanese animation related stuff we do have a comic convention and sci fy though but its only a day event not a weekend like the anime con was, and hopefully one day returns, or if I find a good reason to go to chicago for con maybe I will, but soo much has changed since 2019, so much, and not too much for the better, though there is some things that are great hobby wise and places like wineries, micro brewerys, a meadery and new improvement projects around here including a new racetrack in indy that opened in 2021, there is much to be concerned with in ecconomic and world affairs but thanks

It's good that you've got places to wear lolita, wearing it as often as you can sounds like a good idea - maybe I should start trying to do that too

I hope you're feeling a lot better now. Getting more easy to coord solids sound's like it might be something I need to think about doing

That's a good way to get use out of your clothes, I like the idea of degrees of lolitaness
Love those guitars, they need to make you a dress to match😊
Yes! I want a BtssB print with an uskumya rock band playing the guitars!

I really do like the idea of having one day a week be lolita day
I feel
The same honestly
It seems like more people do than I realised. It's kind of reassuring to know how common it is

This is honestly such a relatable problem. 😂 but I think wearing lolita indoors is just as fine!
I'll have to tell myself that as long as it's getting worn, it doesn't really matter where :)
Crazy how wearing Lolita makes me feel less safe here in the west society..
That's a shame :(
