  • My cylinder bores are not in the best condition - in this episode I attempt to make them better...or do I.

I also fear that pitting is too much to overcome and compression will be an issue. I love your attitude and looking forward to the next episode. Never had a 928 before but had 911s and realize the cost is always an issue.

I’m sorry those bores are shot , alusil bores can be re lapped but that pitting is too deep they’re done ! There won’t be any compression or very low compression on the pitted bores

I think it will be fine with new rings.

😂😂, turned up the dial masterfully on the Blair Witch style. The pitting does not look good, wow. Interested to see what sort of compression values one gets with pits of such alpine proportions.
Also ‘Looper, come her and be fierce’ - 😂😂😂, we need a Looper feature!
Keep it up, if just as a research project.

Enjoyed the video. I probably would have been more aggressive but that's just me. You have definitely improved them. Most of your pitting is at the top in the combustion space, should not affect compression that much. The worse is the blowby from the vertical scoring but you got alot of it out. I would put it back together and run it.

Could you sleeve the bores if there is no other way to overcome the pitting?

I think the done thing is to bore it and put in a new piston which is a bit bigger. Probably not going to happen here tho..

am I missing something?.. it's a wet sleeve block, so if the honing doesn't work you can replace the sleeve...

These ones are not sleeved, they are bored from solid aluminium silicate. Cool technology and material science but not very bodge friendly.

Hey David, take a look at my episode 11. My old block has damage to just one cylinder... would that work better for you than your existing block? (fixing 1 vs fixing many)?

Many Thanks for the offer Todd - been thinking - my plan is this.. I am going to do a minimal cost rebuild of this existing engine and see how it goes. I’ll be happy if I can just move it around…there’s lots of other questionable stuff in this one- so in parallel if this engine turns out too terrible I can build another properly - or more likely go electric…

No probs. Let me know if you change your mind…

Spindle the bores and 2 oversized pistons, it‘s not worth to put this sized engine back in the car. Piston is ~ 300 £.

OVER BORE IT AND PUT IN DUCKTILE IRON LINERS

Needs to be bored and frankly sleeved w a better modern material.
