    DISCLAIMER: In this video I always made sure to keep the wires apart to avoid a short. It worked out however I should have taped off the ends of the wire in the first place to be more on the safe side. Alternatively I could have put a tarp on the solar panels to turn off the solar panels. Also: the white housing is completely waterproof, so the wires that go through the housing are sealed off 100% by a rubber that gets closed as the screws are tighened.

      In the meantime, keep making great content! Once I get some things out the way I'll be buying some things for sure.. (survival knife 🔪 will be 1st on the list for sure!!! -As I've wanted one for 2 years! - being a Man! Englishman (with Viking genes!) ...Plus Youll also now need to design & make a Personalised Axe (aswell!!) Lol &why not a bow and cross-bow? (You could have a whole line!!) 😅 👍💪❤️🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿😎
      I'll be happy with buying a survival knife for starters though lol 😅

I waited and waited and bought a Made in Japan SRK used on eBay and like a month later Lilly came out with the APO-1. LOL

      I hope you read this Lilly, please cover your solar panels with something that won't allow sunlight to hit them. They are making voltage and your wires are "hot". It's like working on your house wiring with the circuit breakers on. It can damage components when you install them. And if you accidentally touch both wires with your hands you get a pretty good shock.

  • @rainerrupp3447

    Nice work! Great you talked to an Electrician upfront! Being an Electrican myself, you've not mentioned if you disconnected the solar cables on the roof before working on them. I would highly recommend to do that. There is no fuse in the installation and the panels generate electricity. So there is a risk of a short circuit, which will not be cut-off! All the best and love watching your videos!

    • @darkmns
      @darkmns 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      You can install fuses online with the connector of the solar panel. It goes around 15E in RO. In more civilized countries can be less

    be careful you have the inlet pointing forward and water can/will collect inside the houseing and will start to rust so make sure to isolate and protect the inlet with drainage for water. when you drive the wind force will push water inside the front two faceing inlets and also insolate the power wires from the solarepanels because they are live. electrical tejp the ends or put on wire pluggs. most important good job and keep going!.

    • @rogercritchlow
      @rogercritchlow 2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      I agree, the fixture should be mounted with the cable glands facing aft so the smooth part of the fixture faces into the wind and rain from road speed. Also, better for long term life if the entire fixture and wiring is mounted in the shade under a solar panel. And also better if the loop of cable is secured so it cannot flap in the wind, which will make noise and stress the cables and connectors. But an excellent video and good work all around.

    When it comes to the electrical… I’m impressed that it will be overseen by a true professional.
    Many RV’s have been totally destroyed due to shoddy or improper solar installation. Which, unfortunately, I’ve personally seen too many times. Most of which were also a total financial loss due to insurance not willing to cover since installation was not done or approved by a professional.

    You have me wanting to build out a camper van, as I will have time to travel soon😌. But since I would be putting a LOT of miles on it, I might want to start with a bare-bones new van. (I don't like the idea of driving and.... parking a "big" motorhome)
    Great job on the cable install! The install "kit" was a wise move. The grommets will protect the wires from sharp edges. BUT, we all know 100% silicone is the first and best defense against water.😎😀 I might recommend extra protection where the wires go around sharp sheet metal edges. Then drill small holes, and SOLIDLY "ziptie" your cables down at those points. Looking forward to seeing you complete this and your many adventures in it!

I'm interested in what you are making and looking forward to the first camping trip but the best part of the video for me is when you talked to Amy in German. First time I heard you say it in a video. I've always wondered if she understands English or if she just loves you and knows what you mean in whatever language you speak.

LG Jenny

    Up on the roof where the wires enter into the white box. The gray wire sleeves should be secured into or on however to the White box. They aren't attached now when it rains you might get water inside the gray wire covers and that could cause problems.

    For the 4 mm² and also the 6mm² I wouldn't care for voltage drop, I run my 100Wp panel on the provided 2,5mm² leads, with a MPPT controller there will be plenty of power.
    You could have spare the bulky inlet if you used the OEM rubber grommets in the top corner of the rear doors, they are made for cables going through for electrics on the roof. The rear doors cover them up, with some Sika to waterproof it, you would be golden!
    Thx for showing!

    This video has inspired me to go outside and start doing measurements and possible placements of the cutoff insulation I salvaged from a commercial building site got some R10 insulation and reflective but also rockwool I might use for hydroponics growing.. anyway this van refit is good hopefully I can mimic some stuff she is doing with it also got some ebooks on van refits - a thrift way of doing this if you can get permission to raid construction site bins as there are lots of materials that are waste product but still usable for something the size of a van refit.

    Hello Lily before you think about buying lumber. You ought to look into metal cabinets that are not as wide as in comparison to building with lumber. It will gives you more room inside your van. Yet if you want to build a fluid forget about 2x4s and stick with 2x2s for your skeleton work and then plywood you can buy that in different thicknesses cuz it doesn't have to be that thick. I'm the connection of your solar power the little housing the tubing was supposed to go into the plastic nuts. Otherwise you need to wrap around each of them electrical tape or aluminum tape. Water has a way of finding its way in.

    • @Mikew-sr1wc
      @Mikew-sr1wc 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I'd use Hardboard instead of any type of plywood, it's a lot lighter than plywood and basically the same material that was used in making interior door panels on older vehicles. it's about 5 mm thick and pretty much same thing as peg board, just without the hole's.. also easy to work and shape and comes in 4 ft X 8 ft or 1.2 m X 2.4 m sheets. if you want to get fancy with it, you could use a spray adhesive to attach almost any type of material to it including adding a little padding with a fabric cover.
      also.. depending on how much extra weight you're adding, you might have to beef up the suspension system. just something to keep in mind as you work this project.

You MIGHT even get it for free DELIVERED!?) Worth calling around & asking!! Beat the lockdown.. 😉👍❤️💪😎🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿

    I got my Aims inverter / charger fixed ; I'm getting two more batteries tomorrow ; that will make it 16 ; then two final ones later...almost have enough. When I first started all this I had two batteries, two solar panels that were 45 watts apiece...I gave those to my uncle for a battery charger. Those are nice panels you have. I am thinking about getting a couple like that to finish my little solar system...that would give me 1240 watts...pretty good really for an off grid cabin which is what I'm building it for. When I get all the batteries it will have 965 amp hours @25 volts = 24,125 watt hours. I think it will be enough . I can always add on but the prices may be higher so it would slow things down. That is a great addition to your van. I like solar, it's a good idea to have it on something at least, whether it's a shed or has wheels...it's good to have a plug in. I just bought a 1600 watts inverter to take with me in my pickup truck. In case the gas station has gas but no power, I can let them use my power for a while and fill up during a power outage...I'm just prepping for whatever I can. These are uncertain times. You are doing a great job and it's a big improvement. The van is worth twice as much now.

    • @SurvivalLilly
      @SurvivalLilly  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for the tips. Regarding gas station I dont think this will work, because most gas stations connect to the internet nowadays to get info from the central gas company. It might work on smaller gas stations tough.

    A set of step drill bits is a great addition to your tools. You can increase the hole dimensions by just going to the next landing on the bit. And when working on your solar wiring cover those panels, sunlight makes them produce voltage. That's like working on your house wiring with the power on. Or called "working hot". And lastly, use a damp cloth to wipe your caulking, you can rinse it out and reuse it until your done with the job. And use more than enough inside housings where it won't be seen. That's added protection against leaking. You are doing a great job Lilly. There's just a few tricks of the trade I hope they help. 👍

    My bugout rig has 4 to 5 large deep cycle batteries. The 1000 watt inverter handles heaters and hand held tools, trouble lights and all my chargers. I can charge thru a home outlet or generator or the truck alternator on road. My water tank is 55 gallons. I have a 5 gallon per minute 12 volt water pump at 50 psi. It can suck from stream, spring box, or take from a water hose. Once I put out a vehicle engine fire fast by my camp water hose! Have fun living free and rescuing thy neighbor come hell or high water! Love, Peace and Awareness precious spirit!

    An additional interesting idea of using those solar panels for would be to install an HHO unit into the van. That way you could use Yul-Brown gas for better fuel burn or just use hydrogen alltogether (to save up on fuel). 🤔😘😇🤗
    Well depending on the engine of your van (petrol or diesel).
    Just a thought. 🙄😊

    You don't have truck bed campers in Austria most of the work is already done you can back a 4x4 truck under it take it to your site unload it have your truck free to forage a 2 wheel drive van will limit the area you can travel vans don't make much since in a survival situation what if it's snowing the highway/roads are jammed and you need to go off road if your just going to use it for camping have fun and learning valuable skills along the way building your own over buying a complete one

    I know it seems counter intuitive, but if you spray oil on the drill bit when you cut the metal, it will cut better and cleaner.
