I really like your idea of sewing/tacking both side seams 1st before easing in the rest of the waist seam. The way I match any cross seams is to use a NEEDLE in place of a pin, (because is is finer) and pin with the needle IN THE TINY SPACE BETWEEN the thread stitching INSTEAD of the fabric to get a perfect match. Then pins on both sides of the needle to hold the seam allowances in place. And I don't take the needle out , but carefully slowly sew over it because the feed dogs will push the bottom layer slightly out of place.
I do the same (though fine pins) in the "ditch" to "ditch" for any garment--but pins on either side & tacking makes great sense when there'll be stress from easing, or shifty material, to ensure success!
Attaching the lining is down right at the end. I sew it down each side of the zipper tape. Then on the top of the skirt. Then I sew the CB of the lining last. Then hand sew down the waistband. I hope that makes sense. But great idea for a follow up video 😁
