The ghastly black one (in fact burgundy) is my creation not to everyone’s taste but runs all the modern refineries of a v8 supercharged xjr I use it all the time and even do track days an Hill climbs also tows my caravan to silverstone for the classic each year I had a standard 3.8 mk2 and never used it as it was not practical as an everyday car most people like it in fact love it but there will always be the purists who don’t appreciate that I rescued it from a scrap yard
yes, taste is such an individual thing, I like the MkII how they came, but I loved the flares on John Steed's (The New Avengers) roadgoing copy of the Broadspeed racing XJ12C, but many would be aghast at the lovely XJ bodywork being hacked.
I thought from your statement it was going to look not so good but it looks great. As it's wide tracked is it an xjr chassis or just spaced out wheels?
@@theprojectproject01 I love the C-V8 but it just doesn't have the classic beauty of the Mk2. But to each his own, Hard to knock a DS as well. But still, the Mk2
Back in the early sixties I had a 3.8L Mk ll Coombes Jaguar. Carmine Red, cream interior. Momo Webasto Borranis. Fluted bonnet and rear arches. Hot engine, the lot. Wish I had that now !!
Except for the black one with the ghastly wheel arch extensions! Old Sir Willy Lyons would be down there with copper wire wrapped round him generating current in his grave.
Love the Mark 2. Right from its starring role in Inspector Morse. Classy. And indeed in 1950’s Britain I understand it was amongst the most favoured getaway cars used by those cads and bounders and rogues who used to make a living robbing banks and suchlike. And yes, the Jag MK2’s shown here are all absolutely gorgeous...
Having owned one many years ago, I learned to only check the oil level during daylight - the placement of the dipstick at the rear of the block makes it almost impossible to find the proper opening, even with a flashlight!
My '59 MKIX also had a dipstick that was difficult to put back. I got down there with a brass bristled brush and buffed up that dull, dark area and now find the dipstick hole easily.
The one thing that never made sense with these Mk 1 and 2 models, was turning that lovely engine into a boat anchor by reducing it to produce the 2.4, If the RAC horsepower system was still in place to calculate the registration fee based, as it was, on the bore diameter, then there was nothing to be saved?
@Goldfinch You might be because that system might [probably has] died out, I don't live in the UK. The old formula was 0.4 d squared N , if a 3 inch bore. 3 X 3 = 9 X 6 = 54 X 0.4, +21.6 Taxable HP. for 6 Cyl car. Some Americans scratch their heads when they see a pre war English Ford V8 advertised as having some rediculously low HP figure but they always quoted them using the taxable HP.
Hi Michael, If you look down at the comments on this video from 2 years ago, you will see Neil Blaxill who I am pretty sure is the owner of the Mark II with wheel arch flares. If fact, he says that he built it himself from the engine and running gear of a V8 Supercharged XJR with the old body of a Mark II from the scrap yard . It is also my favourite. Thanks for watching, Peter
A nice selection - but the average age of the drivers must be about 76 ? .... I'm surprised they managed to get there at all !! ... The marshals didn't really help matters, as they had less of a clue where to park the cars than the poor people driving them.
Fantastic MK2s. Truly amazing to see that many together. Thank you for sharing this video. What is this matching numbers MK2 worth? th-cam.com/video/EsvbWef-2Po/w-d-xo.html
One of the very best car ever made by jaguar, beauty and car engineering.
Nice to know there's still loads about, better than any modern car hands down
These mk II 's are just beautiful creatures of the entire motor Industry.
4.46...the colour was amazing, lovely cars.👍😎

Neil Blaxill Good for you! Glad to hear another mk2 has been rescued. Admittedly I'm not crazy about the fender flares, but hey, it's not my car :-)

Did you make the tow hitch yourself or is there somewhere I could buy one (1960 mk2 3.8)
I thought from your statement it was going to look not so good but it looks great. As it's wide tracked is it an xjr chassis or just spaced out wheels?
Good on you real english hor rod with class👍🧐
Certain women, aeroplanes, guitars and cars have a beauty that never fails to get my pulse beating a bit faster. The immortal Mk 2 Jag is one such.
A trick: you can watch series on flixzone. I've been using it for watching loads of movies lately.
@Joshua Israel yup, have been watching on flixzone for since november myself :)
@@joshuaisrael7176 Thanks for the tip, Mr Israel!
Don't mean to step on any toes here but the Mk2 is the most beautiful saloon car ever, in my humble opinion.
I have been saying that since I was a young boy in the 60's. They are so beautiful ,nothing else been built to better the design.
I believe the Jensen C-V8 might have a thing or two to say about that.
@@theprojectproject01 Just been looking at a 1963 model C-V8, Far too french looking for my liking, So I will stick with the mk 2.
Definitely up there in the top

Always loved the mk2 and 3, beautiful still.
The most beautiful car of all time, my dream :-)
E-type always gets all the hype but imho this is the best looking car ever made.
Beautiful, truly
The white one in the start is a 3.8s,I had the privilege to own one 40 years ago....wich don't make me younger!!!Thank you Peter for this memories!!!

Excellent historical car, I have a Mark Two 1968 240 One Forty years ago
Thank you very much
Damn! Just caught myself drooling 🤤 lol
Just clean yourself up quickly, Don't embarrass the classy Jags.
some lovely mk2's there

What a chaotic and messed up world it would be without the hi vis parking patrol
The Red Jaguar sounds real rough needs some TLC or pre show preping like tighten the fan belt lol!?
I wonder how many of those Mk2s were actually used in a bank robbery?
Im wondering if they used spaces or just a different off set to get the rims out so far @6:13
Hi James, It is actually a Mark II body shell with a Jaguar XJ8 running gear . Hence the wider wheels
@@peterhapper Its a cool looking Vehicle, I used a Mark 11 as our wedding car.
Love these type of jags 😳
Having owned one many years ago, I learned to only check the oil level during daylight - the placement of the dipstick at the rear of the block makes it almost impossible to find the proper opening, even with a flashlight!
But the wing mounted mirrors were great! Always in your vision - I don’t know why we ever moved them to the doors?
My '59 MKIX also had a dipstick that was difficult to put back. I got down there with a brass bristled brush and buffed up that dull, dark area and now find the dipstick hole easily.
Great cars. Thumbs up.
The classic jags stops at. 1987. ather that they can keep em

Yesss, my favourite car 🙂✌
Any 250 v8 ?
The only problems are the brakes and the ones without powersteering. 😂
Why can’t we build cars like these anymore?🥺
High-quality auto construction is outlawed now, I think. They would last too long.
Yes I have a 1968 v8 sp250
was the engine fitted to the sports car same as the saloon? or was it tuned? cause the saloon engine was so
S M O O T H like silk
I like to take my x type jaguar Windsor, Castle show
Werry Nice !...
Those bloody Jets !! Poor HRH !
Does anyone have a contact for the person who owns the black jag with the wheel arch flares?

Thanks Peter, I got a hint from the vid that interior was not standard, and am keen to see it in more detail. Regards Michael
NUV 2E looks the biz
Why not a shot of the interior????????????????????????????
Good job it was dry.
I found mine in garage
You lucky man, enjoy!

It ain't ghastly.it's a creampuff. Nice car.
Ridiculously close side-to-side parking. Let's slam our doors into each other then try to get a double wide arse around it.

very beautiful but not very better than the 1963-1968 S type. The S type is the better MK-2.
That's what I've heard, too, but I thought the MK2 had more power. I owned XKEs and a MKIX that I still own and love.
