    Thank you so much for creating this channel. Avionics truly is a niche subject. I don't see a lot of quality content on TH-cam but found your channel and it's just fantastic. Thank you!

    This discussion pretty much describes my career trajectory. Airforce to installation/mods for Boeing in San Antonio before continuing school at Tstc Waco and completing the avionics degree offered there. After that some MROs, bench checking, mostly military contracts, left Sierra Nevada Corporation after a few years there for my current position for a start-up in California. Been an interesting ride. Always recommend your books and content to those that ask me how to "get into" avionics.

    I know its a longshot but Is there any chance being hired as a avionics mech in the us coming from philippines

      It just requires a work visa from the US. You would need to visit the US embassy there in your home country. Most companies here will hire from overseas if they have a right to work here. My Sargent in the air force was from the Philippines.

    Thank you for the excellent overview Mr. Bessette . At 59:55, you said oscilloscopes are nearly obsolete because a lot of great handheld equipment has replaced them. Which particular handheld devices have replaced them sir ?

    • @AvionicsEducation

      Yes, gone are the bulky CRT displays replaced by LCD and microprocesseres.

      @@AvionicsEducation So the more modern devices you're talking about are still oscilloscopes , but with more advanced displays & processors ; is that correct ?

      @@bigmedge Yes, and they compute the value for you. You don't have to read a trace and look at a scale. there is a channel called Afrotechmods, and I have a video about a Time Domain Reflectometer that used to be an o-scope trace.

      That is a great question. I can cover that on Thursday in the next TH-cam live feed on Thursday at 7pm CST. I will be talking about troubleshooting a broken wire in an air carrier aircraft.

    Not very well explained on FCC. The FCC is required for certain things that go beyond FAA installations and removal or field testing. . The FCC is required For Anyone who repairs any receiver or transmitter for either COMM or navigation, AFTER it has been removed......i.e. ANY FCC regulated device. Period. Repairs are made at manufacturer or repair stations. BUT AS a repair technician You Must either do it at manufacturer Facility where the FCC license is not required (technicians work under the manufactures FCC license) , or YOU MUST have an FCC certificate to do it at any none manufacture repair facility, EVEN AT a FAA Repair station you must have it . This is because the FAA repair stations do not have FCC licenses for techs to work under. You cannot repair a Radio or transponder or even a ADSB transmitter without an FCC license even at a Repair station. UNLESS you have an FCC License.
    IN addition, ANY aircraft where the Radio system on the plane has been registered as a RADIO station with the FCC, you NOW must have an FCC license to do ALL installs, removals or even repairs, No matter if it is a FAA Repair station or an FAA operator, or even a manufacturer worker in the field...NO one but a license FCC radio operator can service any FCC equipment that has been registered as a FCC radio station. Some people still carry radio station registration on their N numbers and some airlines by law still MUST have to have their comm systems on each plane Registered as a radio station, this is to allow international travel. In those cases , any plane that has a comm registered as an FCC Radio station, can not have any of those Radio station registered devices installed or removed or serviced by anyone but an FCC licensed person. No matter what. The only place you would not need it is at the manufacturer's facility.

      Wow, you are so definitive in your position. My information about the requirement for the FCC GROL is from the FCC website themselves. Where the FCC GROL is *_not_* mentioned in any aircraft maintenance manual. I deal in the world of aircraft maintenance, and the FAA is only interested in maintenance being done by mechanics certificated under FAR 65. The FCC certificate is never mentioned because FCC rules only apply to radios under maintenance. The FAA only requires aircraft parts to meet FAR 21 rules for parts and the requirements to create the Instructions for Continued Airworthiness of the part. It's then the FCC will have oversight of the transmitter. So, the only time an FCC GROL is required for those FAA repair stations to perform maintenance on radio transmitters to meet the requirements of the ICAs. Even with that being said, in my 42 years in aviation working around avionics, I have never once seen an FCC regulation enforcer.

      @@AvionicsEducation As a former NASA technical director and Post graduate degreed scientist, as well as having designed navigation and guidance systems for General electric, Honeywell avionics and DOD for military systems as well as Space systems. I have seen many people go thru their entire lives misinformed, just like you. I have seen people in charge doing things absolutely wrong for years. There are people in the FAA in charge who have no idea what the real requirements are. they simply stick to what they were told and follow it their entire lives. Like believing that only a part 145 repair station, or manufacturer can do Altimeter testing in 43 Appendix E. I can call 10 FSDO's and get 10 different answers on one subject that is well defined in the regulations. With that said, I will simply say everything you said is wrong. Dead wrong and I dont want to waste another minute trying to inform you

      GOOD FACTS MY MAN YOU FORGOT THE RADAR ENDORSEMENT THAT IS ALSO REQUIRED WITH THE F.C.C LICENSE

    • @josephkaminski1857
      @josephkaminski1857 11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@melekanaka2288 That you. I don't think he knows or ever worked with a plane that has its comm system registered with the FCC as a radio station with call sign. The FAA use to require that for all GA aircraft. But they removed the requirement because it was causing pilots to be FCC licensed to use the comm and the need for FAA repairmen to also be FCC licensed people to remove and replace and test the gear. After they took out the requirement to register your plane comm with FCC updated the 145-repair station regulation in 2001. however, you still need an FCC license to open the comm and other radio related gear by law. Anything in the plane with an FCC sticker can only be repaired by an FCC licensed person or manufacturer. the FCC radar endorsement is not required unless there is a piece of gear that is in the L S or C band that need repair. Storm scopes would meet this. Incidentally. All comm related Nav gear send and receive falls under FCC, this included Tcas, GPS, and ADSB devices. He stated he never seen a FCC enforcement officer. They are everywhere. They mainly focus on manufacturers facilities, and FCC licensed radio repair shops. Because these devices are supposed to be being send to them for repair. Remember all commercial planes sill must have the planes comm registered as a radio station with the FCC. All that gear that gets repaired by commercial operators must be FCC licensed techs.

    An Avionics Technician is someone who calls the Technical Support number to inform the Company that while performing an SB that shit got bricked while getting the "We are aware of this issue, It will be Corrected in the Next SB". which comes out 75 billion years later....
