The Beaitudes have been compared to the 10 Commandments by a newly ordained Priest.

Matthew does present Jesus as the new Moses and the fulfillment of the Law. That is why there are parallels offered in this gospel between Jesus and Moses. Both were born under a star (Josephus has a star rising at the birth of Moses), both have innocent children slaughtered at their births, both are called out of Egypt and as Moses presented the Ten Commandments and the Law from Mount Sinai, so does Jesus present the Beatitudes and the New Law from the Mount.
