    Great video Sam, by the way that Adams Radial is actually in East Kent Railway livery. It is the same loco that is on the Bluebell today. She was purchased from the war department in 1919 by the EKR, numbered #5 (the WD had brought her from the LSWR in 1917 and they used her shunting at a supply dept in Sittingbourne, Kent). She worked until 1939 when she was laid aside pending heavy repairs, but these never happened due to the out break of WW2. However in 1946 the Southern Railway brought her, apparently at scrap value, to provide extra motive power for the Lyme Regis branch (they were expecting a surge in tourist traffic after the war) The other two survivors of the class were already working the branch - The Adams Radials were the only large tanks with enough grunt to work the line, with a light enough axle loading not to risk damage to some rather light weight bridges on the route, so they had already retained two for this line since the late 1920's. Anyway she was repaired and took her turn with the other two on the Lyme Regis - Axminster services until they were replaced by DMU's in 1961, when she was brought by the Bluebell. I just learned that myself after getting curious about the livery and thought I would share :)
    Have a great week mate, and glad your business is going well
    Jon
    (PS - Just discovered that during WW1 the Railway Operating Department, which controlled the railways during the conflict, loaned several of the LSWR locos to the Highland Railway, who had a locomotive shortage and they ran on light passenger services around the Inverness area for a year or so!)

      Hi Jon, thanks a lot for that mate - I was wondering what EKR stood for! Many thanks for all the info on her - that was great to read! You have a great week too, and thanks very much!

    When you think about it, people only remember the Southern for the Bulleid Pacifics (basically), and considering the roster they really had, it's quite a shame. Thanks for sharing this with us. And keep up the good work.

      Thanks very much mate - yeah that's true, there were loads of different engines really, but definitely those pacifics are the most well known!

    I would love to see a rebuilt bulleid Pacific in southern lime green, even though it's not historically accurate, just for a bit of novelty I think that would look smart. A great southern running session Sam, its actually quite appropriate making a southern running session now as the 9th of July is the 50th anniversary of the end of southern steam. Keep the faith - callum

    • @SamsTrains
      @SamsTrains  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Me too actually - and I think the Wrenn ones prove how lovely that would be! Really glad you liked it, and yeah someone else said that too - though I didn't know that was the case, it just worked out perfectly! :D

    Love when you start around the turntable, getting some good use out of it. I bought mine it seems to just sit around on the layout, not much practical use for it. So much easier to lift most times.

      @SamsTrains  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks mate! Yeah I love that too - hopefully it'll work for more than a few months! haha that's true - but for videos it's very nice to do things on there! :D

    Take a look at Ronald Dodd's videos. There is one where he got a single Hornby Dublo locomotive (with extra weight) pulling 30 old Hornby Dublo coaches, you can imagine the drag on that. I'm sure the Wrenn locomotives that are based on Dublo could handle even more modern coaches.

    Sam; nice running session. Try oiling those lethargic loco motors with a spot of synthetic oil. I used to use 10W-30 Mobil 1 for my s scale locomotives, and they ran fine. Still waiting for my 2-6-0 Crab. I don't know why, unless somebody decided to mutiny. Anyway, watching your trains is probably as close as I'll ever get to a layout, due to health and age reasons. Keep up the good work.
    Bob

    I can see EKR on that Adams Radial Tank of yours, that means East Kent Railway.
    Which was a light railway owned by a man called Colonel Stephens who owned an empire of light railways in the UK.
    Also, the Radial Tank which the Bluebell Railway own ran on the East Kent Railway when it was purchased in 1919.

    They all look great, my favourite has to be the schools class. I have been looking for one for a while but have been put of by the dreaded tender drive. Now I have found Hornby do a 'Shrewsbury' so I think I will get that and take your advice regarding the Model Centre to get it renamed.

    • @SamsTrains
      @SamsTrains  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks a lot Ian, yes the Schools are very elegant! Yeah I would - actually even the Railroad ones are very good, they're loco drive, and seem to be better quality than the railways ones!

    I did a power test many years ago on my locos, involving a heavy freight car, a rope, a wheel (pulley), and some (scale)weights. The winners are:
    -1st -Roco: BR 132 (Co'Co' with traction tires)
    -2nd -Piko: class 01/5 (4-6-2 with tires)
    -3th -Athearn: SD-40/2 (Co'Co' extra heavy, !no tires!)

    • @SamsTrains
      @SamsTrains  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Ooh very impressive! What a good idea too! I suppose the SD40 is the most impressive then - since it has no tyres!
      Thanks for watching mate,

    • @TomPrickVixen
      @TomPrickVixen 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Athearn locos has a lot of metal in them (mostly steel), and the chassis is a one piece molding. It even beaten locos with traction tires. Like a caveman in loco: primitive, simple, strong, and brute. They not expensive do to their not so high detailing , but i propose u (or anyone who interested in US models) to try one.

No I've not seen them in the flesh - I have to say that I assume the 'new' Q1 will be the same as the old one, just re-released! The Bullied Pacifics do look superb I must admit, but they're just too costly for me sadly - I don't like being ripped off that badly, hehe!

    Q1 always had a nice design compared to most foreign steam locomotive,it looked like a locomotive of power and that probably why so many people like him like i do,it probably the same reason why you like foreign steam engines that other people wouldn't think of it as a big deal is because it gives off a different feel from what your use to seeing and neville wasn't a bad character is Thomas and friends ether

    • @SamsTrains
      @SamsTrains  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah for sure - and it definitely wasn't designed to look nice, but it ended up looking great anyway (in my opinion!). But yeah you're right, it does have a very unique feel to it!

      Hi Alan, yes I just shortened it - it was a bit tedious, but seemed to do the trick! I also have to oil up her motor before each time she runs - otherwise it just smokes, and goes super slowly - bad motor!

    the mystery southern coaches are in fact some BR mk1 imposters. hornby/triang did mk 1s in the big 4 liveries for some reason. And although they are not genuine you could change the decals to the br lion and use them as br regional coaches or just do what i do and pretend they are from a preservation line. i have great western mk 1s.

    Hey Sam,
    I just bought my first model train set (the flying Scotsman) and set it up on a table in my shed, it was working fine for about thirty minutes and then the light on the controller started flickering and then it turned off. Now when I try to turn it on it it stays on for about 10 seconds and turns off I've checked if it was a short circuit like the internet told me but it still won't work. What could be wrong and how can I fix it (keeping in mind I'm only 14 so I can't afford to buy a new controller other than the r8250)

    • @SamsTrains
      @SamsTrains  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hmmm... yeah that's a nasty problem, a service may fix things, but it shouldn't be faulty so soon - so you could have motor trouble, or something shorting that shouldn't be. The best thing would be to take it back to the shop or contact the seller to get it exchanged, or refunded - so sorry you had trouble :(
      Thanks for watching,
      Sam :)

    The Q1s look really nice they don't look ugly at all, quite the opposite, as beautiful as a Duchess or an A4. Also here's a small request, on your running sessions could you put music on them? If you don't want to I understand, you might still want to talk during them and music wouldn't go well with that (by the way I mean put music after you present the locos, I still want to here their history : ).

    • @SamsTrains
      @SamsTrains  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks very much mate - yes I agree with you actually, I'm very fond of them too! Yeah I did try the music for a while, but lots of people said they much preferred to hear the locos running, rather than music! I will still use music in the reviews though! :D

    As you know, I'm not a fan of Southern Engines. However, I take exception to two Southern Engines only and those two are Tender Engines. Taw Valley comes first (I don't know which preserved railway is her home), and Sir Lamiel, owned by the NRM, comes second. I'd advise you not to show too many Southern Engine Running sessions, because they'd bore me senseless. Good video, I will admit.
