+ArielsSmartyPants Great suggestion! That upgrade is on my short list of enhancements for the Bomber. Surprisingly, it still has nice crawling capability, even with the 20-t motor and stock gearing.
Followed your tips to upgrade my RR10 to 20 turn. Actually had previously installed a brushless setup, but without the 2-speed tranny installed, I think that was too much top end speed and not enough climbing ability. Going back to the 20 turn brushed gave just enough speed on 3s lipo without completely ruining its crawling ability. I'll hang on to the 35 turn in case I go for any serious crawling, though. Thanks for the great video!
+speedinticket Thank you for the comment! Glad to hear the video helped you out with the motor swap. The top-end speed of a brushless system does look amazing, but as you said, you're giving up some prime low-end manuverability and use (without the 2-speed transmission installed).
+ClayCrawler75 Thanks for the paper tip. I had read about that as well but I'd try my hand at eyeballing it and going off of feel. Next go-round, I'll try paper, to see if that helps out. Thanks!
I put a 20T motor and a 15T pinion on my bomber and it lasted about 10 mins and it fried the ESC. I was so sad. Since then I only run the 27T with the 15T pinion, was wondering if I should mess with the spur gear at all? I really want the two speed tranny so I can crawl when I want and do some rock bouncing On the trail going from spot to spot. It’s sold out everywhere I look. Love the bomber tho great rig!! Lots of fun.!!!
+My RC Tribe Thank you! Yes, for the cost ($15 - $20), this is a very simple way to get a little more speed out of this rig. I'm thinking the added speed will suite it quite well.
I only ran this setup with a NiMh battery pack, but I’d imagine you could safely run a 2S pack in it without risking motor damage. 3S might be pushing it (with stock gearing).
Good information. Does the esc and 20t motor get hot? I went with a brushless setup. I have a Castle Mamba Max Pro and a Holmes Hobbies Puller Pro 2200kv. I can't tell any difference between my brushless setup and the stock 35t when it comes to crawling, which is exactly what I was hoping when I bought it. Full throttle is fun on a 3s lipo. 4s is a real hoot. I put the Bomber's 35t brushed motor in my SCX10. That motor is perfect for that truck on 2s power.
+GLHS592 I haven't been able to run the new motor long enough to get an accurate gauge on the temperature, but from what I've seen, the motor and ESC are no warmer than they had been with the stock 35t installed. Once I get it out for a real run, that should give a better indication. Your setup sounds like a nice one!
20T is not the best for crawling as it lacks alot of torque even the 27 in my deadbolt is not the best for crawling but it does work and the 27t i find is to fast in my deadbolt iam still running all stock gearing and motor in my deadbolt.. eventaully ill be running a 55 to 65T motor with a 16t pinion in my deadbolt and it will still give me some good wheel speed while having a ton of bottom end , my buddy has a wraith and stock set up with the 20T it was really weak on the bottom end and did not do well for crawling but it had some speed ,. great video by the way and nice rig
+Kevys Rc & Music Thank you for the comment! I did a quick drive with the new motor (in my basement) and noticed the top-end speed increase (which is what I was looking for). I'll wait to see what the crawling performance looks like soon, but this will be more of a get out and go "basher" than a trail rig...at this point at least. I agree with you on the 27t thoughts. I love that motor in my SCX10, but wanted something with a little more pep for the Bomber. So far, I like what I've seen from the upgrade. Time will tell if those thoughts stay the same.
+carlos santos I'll keep those options in mind. There are a number of upgrades/paths that can be taken with this machine. I love the flexibility that it offers.
Out of the box, it's not as fast as the Yeti, however, it's not designed to be. Think of it more as an updated Wraith. The center of gravity is a bit higher, making high speed turns a bit "touchy". In short, it's intended to be a rock crawler and trail runner more than a basher.
Thanks for sharing! I run the same setup on 3s with a stock 12s pinion on a 20t motor. My motor got really hot on the first day on the trails.. too hot to touch.. too hot for comfort. Did you end up changing your setup, or does this run cool for you? Perhaps you're using 2s only? Let me know.. the speed is perfect..I would love to keep it as is.. but I don't want to have to worry about cooking the motor every time i run it.
I'm running NiMH, so the motor temperature is managable. It will get a bit warm if I constantly mash the throttle down, but it hasn't gotten warm enough to cause me any concern.
Going from the top looks like a giant pain, just pull the 12 screws to separate the cage from the skip. It's real no that bad with a power screw driver. Watching you struggle from the top is hilarious.
+rkerk Sorry to hear about your motor. I'm still running NiMh in mine (and will probably stay like that for a while). I've noticed a little warmth from the motor after running it for an extended amount of time, but nothing that would appear to be approaching catostrphic levels. Thanks for the heads-up. I'll keep my eye on it.
If you're looking for more speed try using lipo batteries. Just move the jumper plug over from nimh to lipo on the esc and slap a 3s in it
Nicely done. Also great tip on the top entry.
Thank you & you're welcome! :)
Nice job, you can always upgrade to the 2 speed tranny for crawling, it adds a low range gear and leaves the top speed alone.
+ArielsSmartyPants Great suggestion! That upgrade is on my short list of enhancements for the Bomber. Surprisingly, it still has nice crawling capability, even with the 20-t motor and stock gearing.

This truck on a lipo with the 35t is pretty insane I’m trying to find a good Kv for brushless crawling
good tutorial. when I set up my gear mesh I play a piece of regular copy paper between them and that's how I set my gap. just a thought. take care.
+ClayCrawler75 Thanks for the paper tip. I had read about that as well but I'd try my hand at eyeballing it and going off of feel. Next go-round, I'll try paper, to see if that helps out. Thanks!

I had a 15t and the same 20t..both burnt up. I was using 3s lipo. I think if your runnin 2s your golden though
+dieseldiesel9292 Thanks for the heads-up! I'm running NiMh now, but may look to LiPo in the near future.
This looks like a good way to get some extra speed on a budget.
+My RC Tribe Thank you! Yes, for the cost ($15 - $20), this is a very simple way to get a little more speed out of this rig. I'm thinking the added speed will suite it quite well.
What max battery are you able to run with the 20 turn to optimize speed??? Thank u
I only ran this setup with a NiMh battery pack, but I’d imagine you could safely run a 2S pack in it without risking motor damage. 3S might be pushing it (with stock gearing).
@@rcnewb thank you. I Think I have upgraded gears(bought my Bomber at a swap w/lots of upgrades) I will try my 2s o CEI put a receiver in.
Really helpful video. Thanks for posting this.
You're welcome, Nick! Thanks for checking it out!

GLHS592 I have been running the axial 20t brushed in the bomber for months now, switched the pinion to an 11t and it works great. no heat issues.
on 3s lipo
When do we get to see a running video?
+No Budget RC Soon...hopefully. It may be an indoor run, but I'm working on getting a running video put together in the next few days.
Did you ever go lipo? I did this same thing in my scx10 2 and made it so much cooler .
Nice video !
+Lungoci Corneliu Thank you!
What battery is that
What size is the motor 540 or 550???? I as gonna get this crawler
It is a 540 motor.
How did you turn the drag braking down to 50%?
I adjusted the jumper on the ESC for the drag brake. You can find an illustration and details for this on page 8 of the manual (RTR).
RC Newb cool thanks

TRX 4 uses a 21turn so 20 should be fine for crawling
how dose it compare to the Yetti?

And thank you for the comment! :)
I have to question someone's need for speed while running a NIMH battery. A 3S lipo in my kids Bomber really wakes it up.
It's a moderate need for speed. :) All kidding aside, I hear ya, and am looking at adding a LiPo pack to this machine this Summer.
Why u do that 35t to a 20t
I wanted more top-end speed out of this machine, as I'm not using as a rock crawler, but more as an all-around fun machine.
Going from the top looks like a giant pain, just pull the 12 screws to separate the cage from the skip. It's real no that bad with a power screw driver. Watching you struggle from the top is hilarious.
I tried a 20T in my bomber with a 2 cell lipo. Lasted about a half hour then smoked horribly. Good luck!

What happens to your 20 turn motor when you hook up the 2speed transmission ?
