I don't find reading hard. I have always been a proficient reader and read over 50 books per year. However, I am a visual learner and find videos helpful when learning how to use a device.
You don’t want to let you’re espresso shot catch the drips after you’ve pulled the shot. The end of the shot including the drips are the bitter and more watery layer of coffee. Which is needed for a well balanced cup of coffee but you don’t want to just be sitting there letting it catch the dregs. (Also no need to take the basket out of the potrafilter when you fill it. But pop it out when you want to wash it.)
Have this coffee machine for 11 years! Going strong and makes great coffee beating $500 coffee machine range! You can see the foam coffee in the cup how perfect it is! Highly Recommend
fine cheap machine. Couple years ago found one left on street, assumed they upgraded. Took it home, no lights, no nothing. Took outside, whacked it once on pavement, it's worked well since then. I guessed the little On switch goes to a relay to a higher amp boiler that was stuck open, whacking it fixed the relay (or switch)
The only thing I'd like to add is that you use the measuring spoon that comes with it to add 2 level spoons of coffee to the basket. That way you get exactly the same amount of coffee in it each time and you are not just guessing at it by sight. EVERYTHING affects the taste of your drink. I have a Hamilton Beach that costs just a few dollars more than this machine and also makes very good drinks. Plus it's taller, you don't have the problem of fitting a milk pitcher under the steam wand.
Went into a second hand store and found one of these still in the box and never used and picked it up for $10.00. Tried it tonight after your video and it worked well. The cappuccino was okay 👌 the taste was great Nice video thanks
@@LibertyLou_ yeah that was a little vague. The cappuccino foam was okay, but the taste of the coffee itself was great. And I say great because I haven't a lot of experience with espresso and I was so pleased with myself for finding this absolute bargain, I'm sure my tastebuds are prejudiced.
I would apply 10lbs or so pressure to the tamper. It has to be tight. You should be able to hold your puck upside down locked in place and the grounds should stay put. Next, at 3:10 Always express the steamer side into an empty cup first to clear the hot water. Otherwise you'll water down your milk. I also think you should show the 25-30 second brew time so viewers can know that's the key.
I love this machine! The downside is that it has ruined other coffee for me. If you like strong espresso... Grab a bag of Sumatra coffee beans and try those. Fresh ground is best... But I didn't notice much of a difference until I had consumed gallons of espresso. lol
Sean Michael THANK YOU. I have watched at least 15 espresso machine reviews and not a single one of them steamed the milk first. It’s driving me crazy!
This is nonsense. By "go black", I assume you mean the crema deflating. If you're mixing milk and espresso, you're going to deflate the bubbles no matter what order you pour them in. The only practical difference in order is that the drink will be colder faster if the milk is steamed first, as it's the largest thermal block. This is bad folk advice.
It is best to pour the milk immediately after the shots are pulled, but the water is heated hotter for steaming. If you immediately switch over to pulling shots after steaming milk, the temp is too high. So, I prefer to mark my shots with a tiny splash of cream or milk after they're pulled, then steam the milk. This keeps the shots from dying and allows proper temp.
Is anyone's frother like scary loud? This is my first machine so I am unsure if I am doing something wrong. I had a decent amount of milk(regular 2%) too but it wouldnt froth
Thank you for this! I just bought this off someone on marketplace, all new unopened. But I was wondering why the espresso wasn’t coming out, I think I didn’t put enough coffee in the filter.
There are a lot of good machines on the market, but if this one ever dies... I'd definitely buy it again. You don't have to pack the grounds very tight, and honestly, you can use any brand of coffee or grind. It tastes best when you grind it yourself, but it doesn't need to be a fine powder. The finer it is, the less you want to pack it. If you do get this version it takes a bit to prime the pump. Heat the unit, when the light kicks, use the frother for a minute or two and then run 1 or two brew cycles without any coffee to flush the unit. Then you're good to make some really awesome coffee! If I remember correctly he manual says to use the brew cycle a number of times before you make coffee, but you really wont get any water on the first few "cycles" since it's trying to prime the pump. Using the frother first speeds things along. Thanks for watching!
I've been using tap water for the past few years; I haven't noticed any hard water deposits or a drop in its efficiency. If you want to be on the safe side you could always use distilled water. If deposits do build up on this machine I'll put out a how to clean your machine video. I'm fairly certain they make a cleaner you can use to purge the system.
Chazity Bontempo You don't want to use distilled water because it doesn't have any minerals and the taste isn't great. Additionally, it can cause corrosion in some of the parts within the machine.
My hubby bought me this machine just cuz💜 soooo I brewed 5 shots this morning and they all were watery...do you just eyeball it for optimum flavor / buzz??
Tough Question. Based on the grind you have to pack it differently. The smaller the grind the less you pack it. If you're using a standard grind for a regular coffee-maker pack that as much as you can. For an "espresso grind" you need to barely tamp it otherwise it won't brew. Regardless of the grind and tamp; watch the output. If it starts going clear stop brewing. My wife likes weak coffee; I like it more intense. The moment the output starts changing to a lighter color I stop the process. It nets me 2-3oz max. (The wife has 4-6oz in comparison) If you pack certain grinds too tight they'll never fill up your cup. It's kind of a two part answer since I don't know what you are trying to brew. Hope this helps though!
Was gifted an old DeLonghi cafe parma. Can anybody tell me why there is a little flip up thing / lever on the portafilter? It's on the top of the handle and looks like it has a function otherwise why would they put it there?
My 'arm' doesn't turn easily for some reason; you say not to turn it with too much force, but if I don't force it, it doesn't come out to that 45-degree angle. Hope that makes sense. Anyone else have this issue?
I typically wait 25-30 seconds- try to be consistent with literally every step since it’s so short a process (shot timing, grind size, tamp pressure, etc)
Yes and no. You can do an "Americana" which is a shot of espresso diluted with hot water. So yes it is possible. You can also just let it "brew" 4-6oz of "coffee" instead of 2-3oz of Espresso. If you like drip coffee you can get a machine way cheaper than this one at any of your local retailers or online.
A good ratio is 1 part coffee 2 parts water. If you want, look up James Hoffman espresso. apparently a good starting point is 18g of finely ground espresso to 36~ 38g of water.
I’d recommend buying an automatic machine for the office, so you don’t have to spend too long making a specific coffee, they’re also easier to function (only takes a few button pushes and you have whatever coffee it offers) and often more cleaner. The machine demonstrated in the video was a semi-automatic (because you have to load the filter yourself) and these are a little more sophisticated (and can be messy), I personally wouldn’t have one in the office, but they are great at home if you’re fairly serious about your coffee. So just do your research on automatic espresso machines, you can’t go wrong with the ones from DeLonghi.
Can you elaborate? I'm currently using a moka pot but I'm thinking to upgrade to an entry-level espresso machine. and I would like to know why you liked the bialetti better. thanks
Espresso-brewing requires quite a bit of trial and error, but here are some tips I have gathered while roaming the internet: 1. Get a good grinder. The size and consistency of the grounds is quite important, more so than the quality of your machine, so make sure that you have a good quality burr grinder, and that it grinds the beans small enough for espresso. 2. Tamper your coffee. Tampering is often misused (in these types of reviews anyways), and is very important because it compacts the coffee to create resistance to the water coming out of the pump. That resistance is what allows the water to extract all of the oils and aromas that make espressos so special. 3. Trial and error. You should aim for about 25-27 seconds of extraction time for 18 grams of coffee grounds in the portafilter and 36 grams of coffee in your glass (1:2 ratio, which is standard). Again, I am no expert, but I bought this machine on Amazon and waiting for it arrive ! Super hyped to try espresso-making ! The excellent TH-cam channel Seattle Coffee Gear has heaps of videos on coffee and coffee making, you should go and take a loot at them (I truly learned a lot !)
It is specially if u do some moda on it, this was my second machine and it was very decent, am now on my 4th machine which is a ecm synchronika omg that thing is beautiful!
It's a great machine! If you pack it too tight it takes forever to brew a shot. Also, if the grind is too fine(if you're grinding it yourself and don't have a burr grinder). Once you zero in on that sweet spot you're golden! I still use this machine on a regular basis. You also don't have to buy just espresso grind. It'll still make a great double shot out of pretty much any off the shelf variety.
Without a pump you have a steam power espresso machine with a boiler that is able to create 3.5 bars of pressure.
