    After years of my love hate relationship with the RPI axle-back, it was time to quiet the M down a bit. I replaced them with Strömung and am enjoying my car more than ever. The tone, volume, and drone level are perfect now. (can also hear the airbox far better now too)

    I'm now the proud owner of a Z4M! Big thanks to these videos for helping with the decision. I'd love to get close to this sound, while still feeling fairly civilised around town. I believe Stromung is a little quieter than the RPI exhaust which sounds about right for me. I currently have a GruppeM airbox, so I'm pretty happy with the induction sound --- would you recommend headers over the exhaust in terms of noticeable difference? Thanks again my friend!

    Thx for the Stromung review - this is what I've been looking at. Will also get the Evolve airbox +tune (was think I'd get it from Turner Motorsport unless you can recommend somewhere else.

      I believe Turner makes their own carbon box at a substantially lower price too, something to consider.

    Stromung sounds so much better than the RPI. I tried to find this mix for a while back when I was looking for a Z4m but never could find it. Sounds EXACTLY how I'd hoped it would. Unfortunately I've since moved into an e89 z4 with upgraded turbos, so not sure when I'll be looking into a z4m again. Nice sounding car!

    • @BuzzytheBlue
      @BuzzytheBlue  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you! Truthfully I wish there was a valved system that offered the best of both worlds for this car. the RPI was certainly fun when going quickly but the Stromung is more pleasant and livable overall.

    • @Dope.And.Pretty
      @Dope.And.Pretty 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@BuzzytheBlue You could always make your own. I've been making my own valved systems on all my cars for a little while now. Varex makes great straight through/turbo mufflers that you can throw on the back to give you that quiet/loud option.

      @@patrickliddle7286 Sorry, I don’t. I can only tell you that it is not as loud as those in the video. Induction is stock. To be totally honest I don’t think the S54 sounds as good as the other BMW sixes I’ve had at lower rpms. So around town it’s nothing to brag about. Once you get it on a two lane and get above 3,000 rpm it’s pretty sweet. Good luck with your mods.

    What shifter do you have? Is it just the knob shifter that’s changed? The only thing I hate about my MR is the clunky shifting especially 1-2

    • @BuzzytheBlue
      @BuzzytheBlue  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Only thing I’ve changed is the knob. I used to miss/get locked out of the 1-2 all the time for probably the first year or so I had the car. Not as much anymore but I just don’t rush the 1-2 as much probably.

  • @akkhanomotive7585
    @akkhanomotive7585 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    Sounds like you either got in trouble for the exhaust or because of the exhaust lol. Stromung, factory x pipe, cat-ed stepped section 1, factory euro catless headers and a CSL style air box is the winning ticket in regards to smell, sound and power with the S54.

    • @BuzzytheBlue
      @BuzzytheBlue  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Probably gonna trade the CPI for a catted section 1 on my setup. The CPI fitment was atrocious on the Z4M. And HA, it’s an oddly personal thing, I was starting to get kinda self conscious about the volume, so I wasn’t driving as hard. Not worried about cops just don’t like blasting by people’s houses at 130db 😂 was also feeling silly having spent 3k on an airbox just to have it fighting my exhaust to be heard lol

      @@BuzzytheBlue age is a real thing lol. Go on the forum and look for a man named Diokef or DKF. He may have some DKF section ones left over for sale from way back in the day.

      have a used DKF section on my Z4M. Megan catless, 100cell DKF, stock xpipe and stock mufflers. Sounds weird - will probably do mufflers this year.
      My DKF section fit flawless and even has bungs for the euro o2 sensors if you extend the wires.
      Good luck - I paid 200 for mine used.

    I loooove Z4M roadsters. I actually prefer them to the coupe. Has it been reliable? I intend to sell my manual 3.0 Z4 and try to get one.

    • @BuzzytheBlue
      @BuzzytheBlue  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Had mine for 4 years now, it’s never even hiccuped. Basic maintenance only. My experience is somewhat unique, others have issues with Vanos etc and they aren’t cheap to fix, but overall they’re pretty stout cars. Rod bearings and vanos are the big ticket items.

    • @Eidrian111
      @Eidrian111 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@BuzzytheBlue yep that’s what I’m afraid of. I don’t know the failure percentages of the cars with problems.

    • @BuzzytheBlue
      @BuzzytheBlue  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Preventative maintenance is the name of the game with these honestly. They’re still quite affordable compared to the coupe and the M3, so I’d use those savings to address issues like the rod bearings shortly after you found one. The rod bearing job is about $2,000. Not cheap obviously but not catastrophic either. If you can do a lot of the work yourself it’s obviously MUCH cheaper.

    • @Eidrian111
      @Eidrian111 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@BuzzytheBlue thanks for the advice. I will consider one. The rod bearings failure is it dependent of the milage or it can go wrong at any time? And the vanos?

    • @BuzzytheBlue
      @BuzzytheBlue  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@Eidrian111 on the more modern S54s like the Z4M the bearings are typically a 70-100K+ wear item. It could be less or more depending on many variables. When you decide to do it comes down to your own risk assessment and how long you’ve owned/will own the car etc... The vanos I’m less knowledgeable about rate of failure.

    Are you still happy with the b12 suspension kit?

    • @BuzzytheBlue
      @BuzzytheBlue  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes! If anything as everything has broken in I’ve gotten even happier with it. Performance is excellent and ride quality is good, there just isn’t much travel, so you end up hitting the bump stops over sharper impacts.
