My all time favourite is Huntsman, everyone will say other opinion like other models but nothing can beat a Huntsman it's really very very useful and nice for hiking and also to work in woods excellent model from victorinox superb....
I cut through paracord 550 at least 5 times last night, and all except one instance did it only take just a single slice. So clean and crisp, it surprised me. True believer 💯
The inline Phillips is why I got the Victorinox explorer. I tend to have a saw and Hatchett, when I am outdoors, so the Explorer is my preferred Victorinox. It has the corkscrew for the fire starter stuff. The magnifying glass is amazing to work on electronics or to see small writing.
I like the Explorer. Just haven’t picked one up yet. I use my Swiss Champ with the magnifying glass and have found that to be a wonderful tool with my aging eyes!
I should have clarified that the Huntsman didn’t come with the needle but with the spot for the needle. I added the needle. The Compact is the only one I know of these days that actually comes with the needle. Others used to and still have the spot for the needle, but it doesn’t come with it as often.
I now own 4 SAK models currently. I have their nail clipper model 580, the compact, the huntsman and the handyman. And as much as Id like for the Handyman to be my favourite edc I find myself grabbing my Huntsman model more than all the other models I currently own. I just find it offers the most proverbial bang for its buck so to speak in terms of its footprint to tools offered ratio of all the models available in my opinion. Its the perfect edc size. I also love the fidget friendly size of the compact as well but I truly feel naked if I dont shove my Huntsman in my pocket before I leave the house.
@@PostFamilyPilgrimage without a doubt. For that exact reason I actually bought the 1 model (with just a single blade) in the alox addition for when I wear light shorts during my runs. Can't go wrong with any of them imo
I have worked in the "woods" for the past 37 years at this point in time, forestry technician by trade. Until recently, I always had a SAK Recruit in my lunch box/cooler for opening cans or cutting up fruit or whatever small project a quick tool was needed. Sadly, I lost it in the woods. if you "truely" work in the woods, you will lose personal items. Hopefully, not the truck keys or cell phone to call a co worker to come pull you out of a mud hole. So, I replaced it with the bigger SAK huntsman. This time it is secured to the cooler with a very small locking d ring attached to the key ring mount on the knife. All i can say, in my experience and opinion, SAK makes the best can opener i have used in the field. The other accessories are good quality too. Now, i do keep a small cheapy Leatherman type multi tool for use in the "field" to use along with my Huntsmen. The pliers on the cheapy knock off Leatherman type tool work ok, but the other accessories are very poor quality and design. Yesterday, I did purchase the Tinker and classic SD ES for my other tool kit and key chain.
Thanks for sharing! Loved your story! Wow, 37 years! I just picked up a Recruit last week! :) Great little EDC… but at the end of the day, it’s typically my Huntsman for me too!
The title of your video struck mixed feelings with me. I am a Victorinox SAK fan & collector, my first knife was the Huntsman way back in 1973. The Huntsman has evolved over the years a bit, but is mostly the same. I have a version of the knife from the late 1940’s before it was named the Huntsman back then they used nickel silver liners, a different awl similar to the soldiers knife from that period, and the scales were pinned on so it is quite a bit heavier. The mixed feeling come from the fact that you ask if it is the best SAK in 2023 which if true makes me a little sad that more progress has not been made. I will always like the Huntsman and hope Victorinox continues to carry it in there line. I also wish they would continue to improve and evolve going forward.
Sorry if the thumbnail threw you. The Huntsman has always been my one of my personal favorites… but I know a lot of folks like different Swiss Army knives for different reasons. I’ll be doing a follow up soon but I have found myself recently carrying the Swiss Champ even more!
@@PostFamilyPilgrimage Don’t get me wrong I am also a big fan of the Huntsman the four layer knives are a great size. I am just a bit frustrated with Victorinox for not continuing to innovate. I like the Farmer X, it’s a heavier duty four layer but is not really an innovative design. Part of the problem is Victorinox doesn’t have any serious competition to push them. They make a very good product at a reasonable price.
@@hitchpost5822 totally agree! It’s hard to improve on something so iconic! I have the pioneer and I’m wanting a farmer X I just haven’t picked up one yet… but I agree… would love to see more innovation.
@@hitchpost5822 Also the Swiss are known in the German speaking world i.e. by their neighbours the Germans and Austrians as being conservative and erm should I say slow thinking, but that's more of a joke based on how slowly they have to speak when they are speaking standard German, because Swiss German is impossible for Germans and Austrians to understand. Also bear in mind that Victorinox is a family business in a village, not some huge factory in a city.
I Have both the Huntsman and Handyman. But prefer the handyman for the file and small Plier etc(also have an aplineer).. Huntsman is a fantastic tool but the reason I have a small multitool is due to UK Law, as we are not permitted any knife in publc that is greater than 3inchs and or has a locking blade. My actually EDC for the hills etc/Work is my leatherman wave. So when home and out and about I would miss the file and pliers etc of the Wave+ so upgraded my Huntsman to the Handyman and never looked back...
Congrats! You will not be disappointed! Did you by chance use the link in my description? It helps our channel when you do just FYI. Thanks. Enjoy the knife and let me know what you think. I literally have it in my pocket here at the office this morning! :-)
Huntsman is my EDC SAK choice too. The only thing that doesn't make it perfect is that a metal file is missing. It is the only thing a would add to it if I could. Greetings from Brazil.
Thanks for watching from Brazil! So Awesome! I can agree with that! I just picked up an Evolution S557 2 weeks ago and it’s growing on me big time… it has the smaller file.
The Ranger is the Huntsman plus a metal file/saw, plus it has a couple of extra backtools - chisel and small slot head screwdriver. Sounds like that would be a good model for you.
@@simonh6371 Thanks for watching the video, Simon! I'll have to check out the Ranger! I just picked up an Evolution S557. I'll get a review of that one out soon! Sounds like I need to pick up a Ranger too! :)
@@PostFamilyPilgrimage I like the look of the Evolution S557, it scores above the Super Tinker in that it has an inline Phillips screwdriver. Unfortunately where I live, the UK, I can't EDC a locking blade due to our laws. I had a number of SAKs with scissors, saw or both and wanted to try out more tools, namely the file/metal saw, pliers and inline Phillips, and in the end I just jumped to the Swisschamp to give me all of those plus a few more tools. It's not too cumbersome as it fits nicely in the 5th pocket of my jeans.
@@simonh6371 I hear ya with the locking blade. It’s fascinating to me that that’s illegal in other countries because to me that makes it even safer to use. The online Philips is a game changer. I also have the super champ… that’s an excellent choice!

I believe some SAKs have fire ants that thread into the cork screw and not the mini screwdriver. They are an interesting add you can get from third parties to have a flint and tinder.
Thanks, John, for taking the time to watch and comment on the video! I don’t take that lightly! And I will absolutely pick up some of the flint and tinder kits. I’ve seen them but just haven’t pulled the plug. I need to get some to add to my collection.

The Chinese knock off was the second pocket knife I owned which was a present from my father on my 13 th birthday I owned my first pocket knife when I was 8 given to me form my uncle which was a cheap generic camping knife. The first Swiss army knife I got myself when I was 16 and working and the model I got was the camper if anyone think it odd an 8 year old owing a pocket knife and relatives buying you one it was because at 7 I joined a boys club called the boys brigade and 2 weeks every summer they went camping where we learned camping and bushcraft skills
@rvde1307 I can't see a thing without my glasses. So to repair my eye glasses with the micro screwdriver i need a second pair of glasses to see what i'm doing. 🤣
The "small flathead" on the can opener is also a 2D philips screwdriver
The Rambler is my daily carry, but the Huntsman when I’m out camping or hiking.
Nice! The mini-champ is on my keychain… just a tad bigger than the rambler. Great tool!
@@PostFamilyPilgrimage a strange one too, with 3 medical tools on it, originally from a long defunct medical SAK!

I carry the Swiss Army 7. I wish they would make it with scissors. A Swiss Army 7 X would be awesome. I would like to keep the hawk bill blade.
Actually never realised there was a needle in it 😮 going to buy it now out of curiosity, can’t wait for Amazon 😂
