Yes saw junior school on Stanningley Road called Castleton school where I use to go just in front of Armley Prison which is not there now, that was 58 years ago and been living in Bournemouth area for past 40 years.

Very good and nice to see all these picture. But I found the music just did not suit and was distracting.

Thank you so much for sharing, really interesting. I grew up in the 60's in Armley and recognise quite a few. Many thanks ☺

Leeds is an overcrowded filthy mess today,
I took a drive around the city the other day! jeez! what have they done to the place?!!
the skyline is cheap, badly planned & nasty-
the old worldly Leeds of domes & spires has has been devoured by monumental 'flatpack' style ugliness with zero thought other than profit!
it's the UK's 4th dirtiest city, the 3rd worst in the country for inequality/child poverty levels & one of the worst in the nation for air pollution!
a quarter of the population live in poverty
yet all the Evening post does is harp on about Harvey Nicks, friends of ham & all this London of the north nonsense?!
all the finery is lathered on the surface, it's just bullshit!
the real Leeds is a very different story.

last time I went to Leeds centre, it resembled a blinkin building site.

Thanks so much for this! I l grew up in Leeds and was a student in Armely (in the "Chumbawumba house" which can clearly be seen in sevral of the old Armley shots.

The building at 4:35 looks like an annex up wesley road past the library where we used to learn woodwork as I recall. And the old school with the clock tower at 4:55 is I think what we called the "clock school" where we (boys) learned cooking and sewing, with Mrs Sawyer, just before middle schools came in. I think it's offices now.

0:44 Jeff (and Alan) Skinner's yard next to The Victoria Club behind the Holy Family School, God that takes me back. Lived around that area from 1962 - 1977 first in the Avenues then on Butts Mount.

Does anyone remember Hargreaves CornMerchant and petshop on Elland Road, Meadow Lane, Leeds in the mid-1950s? They used to have a parrot outside the shop in summer.

3:44 -- a still from the 1963 film Billy Liar. I don't recognise the school in the background; many old schools in Leeds looked like that.

I'm a bit spooked out after seeing the two photographs at 09.30 - 09.40 with women wearing burkhas in front of a tram. The first photograph has two minarets of a mosque and the second photograph doesn't have them.

    • @DamnDealDone
      @DamnDealDone 2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

@@violencematters Bradford isn't diverse though. Centre is higher than 90% asian and african. Asian Saree shops outnumber any other shop type. Music venues such as the legendary Bradford Rios and Maestros (Jools Holland filmed there) and music shops like Woods Musical are all asian events rooms now. This is not diversity. This is cultural replacement.

2:20 - The School with the Fire Engine on the left is what is left of the old Green Lane School (later renamed Wellington Middle School I think. The Site in it's original state had and Infants and a Juniors School. I went there around 1964/5 Infants school in Miss Atkins class lol then up to the Juniors, would of gone to the seniors (The building in the picture) at 11 yrs old but everything changed and ended up going to Armley Park (71-73) and Gotts Park (73-76) ...
