East Lancashire Railway 'Legends of Steam' - 15 & 17.03.24

A locomotive lineup like this was too good to resist, so a weekend in the north saw me head to the East Lancashire Railway, as three express steam locomotives ran along the line over the weekend of Friday 15th to Sunday 17th March 2024.
The lineup consisted of LNER A4 Pacific No. 60007 Sir Nigel Gresley, BR Standard 7MT No. 70000 Britannia, marking her return to service following her crosshead failure last year, and LMS Jubilee No. 45690 Leander, of which this would be her last event at the line, having been based at the ELR since her mainline withdrawal last year, before heading on a tour of other heritage lines to see out her boiler ticket, expiring later this year. Alongside the three large locos, would be LYR 51456, running as 11305, hauling a shuttle service between Bury and Ramsbottom.
Filmed on the Friday & Sunday of the event, titled "Legends of Steam", the engines are captured in varied filming conditions, although the rain thankfully held off for most of the weekend. Extra coaches from WCRC were also hired in for the event, resulting in some long trains for the engines to haul over the line. The performances from all the locomotives over the course of the event marked a very rewarding first visit to the line.
