Brilliant Engineering! I love your amazing creativity using common items available to anyone. Almost every DIY enthusiast; ranging from beginner to master, would not even have to venture out of the house for materials.
@tetkoba Thank you very much my friend, that means alot coming from you! I've always admired your brilliant designs and excellent workmanship... they are in a class by themselves! Take good care...
Hi great little stove, video very clear for building one. Can you tell me why there is a spare hole drilled on the inside wall, or did I miss something.
Thanks for the kind words and compliments my friend... much appreciated! To answer your question: I just use a medium grit sanding sponge to remove the paint (strips it off in a hurry!) and then follow that up with a bit of buffing with fine steel wool before polishing them with a rubbing compound to get them nice and shiny. Hope that helps....
@ridebks Yeah they are! I just wish I would have figured that out sooner rather than using the mini AXE cans... these are much better! Thanks for the support Brother :-)
Great little stove John, I like the standoffs. 12 grams is plenty light enough and being made from heavier aluminum is a plus. I better order one before you figure out you need to charge more for them :-) Yep, it was Tinny who developed the standoff/bump concept with the Bios 2.2, back in Jan 2010 although the original purpose was to prevent excess pressure buildup and fuel boil over. The secondary benefit of less heart loss from the stove with a cold pot was a welcomed added benefit.
@Woodenarrows Thanks a bunch Jim, I really appreciate that. I gotta agree with ya... 12 grams is plenty light no matter who you are (it's always just fun seeing how low you can go, lol). Thanks for the info and back story on the Bios btw. I was pretty sure it was him that came up with the idea (and a darn good one it was). It's good to know I got the credits right though, lol. Hope all's well down your way my friend!
Hey Intense Angler, I really appreciate your how-to's and DIY tutorials. Great guy. I was wondering how you get the paint/graphics off the barbasol cans? How do YOU do it, and/or what is the best and easiest way to get them off? Keep it up!
Thanks for a very nice video. Did you choose to use the Bud Lite bottle neck in order to give you a taller stove with greater fuel capacity? Would the top of the Barbasol can have worked less efficiently? I would tape up inside of the can before all the grinding to prevent aluminum dust from getting inside the double wall. All in all a very beautiful and effective stove.
Thanks, I appreciate that. I know what you mean btw... in fact I have a small series going on my other channel (intenseangler) that is called "Stove Secrets", and I'm showing different stove builds, tips, and tricks that all center around keeping things simple and using what the typical person would have around the house. Hope that helps....
Every side burner I see has heat running up the sides of the pot. If you used smaller jet holes would that prevent wasted heat? I suspect too much pressure in the stove. Or perhaps use slots instead of drilled holes?
Side burner stove is OK for larger pot's, with more than 100 ml OD. Evernew was releasing a aluminum side burner stove, the EBY639 "Bluenote", 5mm OD, 3.2mm H, 13,5 g.
@Pat5725 Oh wow, thanks a bunch my friend! I guess I better get off of the computer here and get to work on it, haha. I hope you get as much use out of yours as I have mine. Thanks again :-)
-Piggiesrsmokin- You have NO IDEA what you are talking about. John will not say anything to you but I will. I have two of the X-Lite stoves. They are absolutely fantastic stoves. They will boil 1 cup water in 3:30 and uses just a bit over 1/4 OZ of alcohol to do it. I have one of these in my 1 cup cook kit, and the other is in my 600 ml titanium cook pot.
What kind of alcohol do you burn in this? Rubbing alcohol? I've had problems with an alcohol lamp with a wick where it wouldn't stay lit unless the alcohol used was much higher purity than what is found in rubbing alcohol.
+Gewgulkan Suhckitt it can be heet, or denatured alcohol. I use denatured alcohol because it burns cleaner than heet. available at any paint or hardware store. and heet can be found in automotive stores or auto sections of box stores.
Thanks for the great video John. WTF is it with you pinky freaks? Acknowledge and thank the man for the info he shares and get off the pinky--mind your own business!
Nice stove. But I leared from "Martin Fierro " ( the argentinian gaucho bible ) the following : " _El fuego, pa que caliente,ha de venir siempe de abajo " The fire, to be efficient must always come from below . When the flame exceedes the diameter of the pot,there is a great loss off heat.Nice video,however,for te nex one I beg you to clip that nails !
I don't mean to be ignorant here, but can anyone tell me why his two pinky nails are so long? I felt like Austin powers when he meets the 'Mole'... His nails were all I focus on...
I agree, no need to falsely accuse someone of drug use due to the length of their pinky nails. He could use them for mining for nose gold though! lol. On a more serious note, I love that stove, I have a smaller bottle I'm gonna use for just my coffee cup. I really thought the risers are a great idea. The hole are a bit large though, smaller ones are more efficient from my experience. great vid, thanks.
Green mtn bushcrafter yeah he’s definitely a coke head, he’s rapidly talking and sniffing all the time! 🤦♀️🙄 grow tf up apparently you’re the coke head, moron...lol you actually think John could be a coke head?? Haha funny af, almost as funny as you thinking you actually matter🙄😂😉
@steintanz Haha! It is much funner destroying (er, I mean using) the pieces in this way than the game, I agree! ;-0 P.S. If you ever need any dental work, you know who to call buddy ;-)
This little stove not only works great but it is strong as well. Great work John, review coming up soon....
Love this! I am soooo making one of these!!! Thanks for sharing it.
Very cool stove. I like how simple yet “finished” it looks, and of course how well it works.
Marvelous!
This little side burner looks sturdy, light and very efficient!
Stupendous video!

Good video guide, did not seem like 13:49 minutes, so not at all boring, thanks for sharing Intense Outdoor Gear.
love videos from a local guy! love the detail on this simple build!
+Julia Mahaffey Thanks Julia... really appreciate that! :)
Just bought a X-Lite Alcohol Stove from your website. Good Luck on your new YT channel and Website.

@munky2005 Thank you very much for that my friend, it is much appreciated! Take care...
John's site is in the description. 10 for the stove and 18 for the kit. Thanks for the howto John!
Those shaving cream cans are great for stoves! Good luck on this new channel!

This is a particularly neat design .

@ScoutsNOA Thanks my Brother. Can't wait to see your take on it! Peace...
Great DIY project!
I wonder how much fuel and time does it need to boil 15oz of water?
Cheers!
1 Oz ~30 ml is sufficient, using suitable pot and an efficient stove.
Excellent engineering; quite interesting.
John, is there a video of how your pot is constructed as well as your wind screen?
Another bang-up job! Four thumbs up!
-Jon & Adrian
Would like to ask, some make theirs without notches, and it still burns fine. Whats your opinion?
I made mine following your step.
gr8 concept all the way threw !!best yet besides the jet ones
Thanks, I appreciate that.

Nice video mate! Tried to built few can stove ones. Might try something more difficult now :)
Wonderful Tutorial John! Has me wondering though how long you've been saving Barbasol cans.....: )

I have never used JB weld, how long does it take to set and how much time you have to play with the things before setting 2 items??
@briargoatkilla Thanks Brother!
What is the best small stove for use with a 16oz aluminum coors can (the one with the screw top)?
@FloridaAdventurers Right on! Thanks guys!
Nice stove, man.
Heat transfers from the stove to the pot. Only heat moves. How did you sand the cans so well?
Nice job! Thanks for sharing the build! Subscribed.
Nicely done!

Un cordiale saluto e, ai tuoi visitatori.

would it help this stove any to place carbon fiber felt inside of it and let it burn that way,
Be a terrible idea.
Carbon felt would refuce the capacity for fuel. It only holds 15 ml the way it is now.
What kind of alcohol do you burn in this? Rubbing alcohol? I've had problems with an alcohol lamp with a wick where it wouldn't stay lit unless the alcohol used was much higher purity than what is found in rubbing alcohol.

available at any paint or hardware store. and heet can be found in automotive stores or auto sections of box stores.
denatured alchohol is the best fuel for this stove. you can find it in the paint department of your local hardware store.
well done!!!
@saradreaming Thanks Sara :-)
Well as you can probably tell, I'm not using them for shaving ;-)
@intenseangler ... thanks, doc!
How can I buy one?
What do you use to strip paint
You can sand it.
His pinky fingernail
@kessler003 Thanks my friend!
@munky2005 Awesome my friend! I'm glad that it is working out for you :-)
All the best!
PS What is 4 centimeters in inches?

I don't mean to be ignorant here, but can anyone tell me why his two pinky nails are so long? I felt like Austin powers when he meets the 'Mole'... His nails were all I focus on...
Sfyre2 I could explain my theory, but I don't want to accuse anyone of drug use

Why not take needle nose pliers and pinching the can instead of using that tool?
Thanks :-)

it isn't caused from heat or cold, if it didn't have thoes bumps, you'd starve the flame from air.
I speak romanian
Why is your pinky fingernail grownout so much longer than the rest of your fingernails?
He could be Asian. Some Asian people do the long pinky nail thing for cultural reasons.
