40lbs Jasper from a river in North Canterbury, New Zealand

I headed out to a river in North Canterbury to look for some agates, petrified wood and jaspers. I really like the red and yellow jaspers from this river and I was hoping for a big piece and really lucked out!

Oh wow! That big Jasper was gorgeous!
I'd definitely haul that one home too.
I recently found a 15kg Jasper, and carried it part way down the river.
I just subscribed to your fossil channel.
The crab is beautiful.
Did you find it here in NZ??

Absolutely gorgeous!! I love rock hunting but I'm not able to do it as much as I like.
I live by the Great lakes in the States, closest to Lake Huron, there's some gorgeous beaches where you can find Petoskey, and jasper. Nice beautiful hunks of granite too that look like decorated Easter eggs 👌💖

Yeah, it's definitely petrified wood, just very weirdly preserved!

I think that fossilized wood is 'Ponga' or tree fern.

Check out the Waipara, Ashley and Kowai - they all have this.

Could the weird piece be petrified punga or a fern wood?

It could be! There is a petrified wood expert at my local rock club, I'll ask them for their opinion.

Hey sir, I see you like rocks, if I upload a video about a rock we have in my house, would you tell me what is called? Is a 2 meter? Big pink stone. When they were building a road close to my house the construction team found it and we said was pretty so they kindly gift it to us, they had to get rid of it anyway, with a machine they brought to our house, which deff wasn’t needed but they did it and we are thankful. Now is sitting in our garden. It looks like a regular stone, but pink.

That petrified wood piece looks be from a plank. Like from a boat or hut or pole?

It would be much older than that, so wouldn't be man made.
