    One thing I didn't make clear in the video, but needs to be said: Reolink cameras are a VERY good value when used standalone with an SD card or with a Reolink NVR. However, they should NOT be used with 3rd party NVRs or software based NVRs like Blue Iris. Compatibility seems to be increasing and the CX810 seems to work perfectly with my Blue Iris server, but most other Reolink cameras will have codec issues, framerate issues, and lag issues.

      I've been using the Ethernet Doorbell on your recommendation with Blue Iris, and while it does work, it has been a challenge. This video has made me rethink using blue iris moving forward when I get more cameras, and switching to a Reolink NVR with the camera's recommended. Thanks for putting in the work for all these reviews!

    • @TheHookUp

      The doorbell should actually work fine. It's a 5mp so you can set it up as RTMP and you shouldn't have any issues.
      That said, the Reolink NVR experience is very user friendly and smooth.

      Oh. Will you do a video of cameras that are good with blue iris? I was going to ask if any of these cameras would be good for license plate reading but if it cannot be used with BI, I don’t see the point…

    They have so many models... this is SO HELPFUL! I almost left a comment a few days ago asking if you'd consider a video explaining what the model numbers means and what the differnt "groups" of cameras (CX vs RLC vs duo) actually mean in real life, since there's a ton of overlap between the RLC line and all other lines (except duo).

  • @jamescole6846

    Just a comment on reliability. 4+ years ago I installed the RLN16-410 NVR (16-port) with Eight 510A Cameras. It was a kit I think 699.00 off Amazon. I set it up once and have never touched it again. It has run 24/7 with out ever having to be reset, rebooted nothing. Even during power outages (storms etc..) it starts back up automatically and loads all the cameras. Works perfect.
    I live in Texas and 3 of the cameras are in direct 100+ degree Texas heat from about noon to sunset pointed directly at the suns path. No shade and not much cover from the rain etc. I figured these would fail first but they all still work perfect. I even hit them with the IR temperature gun in some of the hottest days just for the info. At the hottest point of the day in direct sunlight they were all reading 150+ degrees on the camera casing. Has not affected them one bit.
    At this point I kinda want it to fail so I can get one of these newer systems you mention but if it aint broke, why fix it :)

    Love the focus on Reolink. I've gone with them for replacing my Eufy cameras and to add additional functionality I didn't have with Eufy and was too expensive if I went with a Unify setup. Right now our house is split between Reolink, Eufy, and Unify, with a rather simple setup to cover all of our entry and exit doors. I use the cameras I have for a dual purpose 1) security of our home 2) help me keep track of my dad who I am caregiver for (he has dementia). Also have a doorbell from Unifi that I need to replace my Eufy doorbell with, but need to run the POE cable, so that's been delayed. My use of smarthome tech has allowed me to be a bit more proactive when my dad is up and about and about to get into trouble. Last year, he had 5 falls, and I identified problem areas for him. This year, the combination of cameras and door sensors has allowed me to keep him out of the hospital as he has had no falls yet this year.

    First off thank you for a great overview of all the current cameras Reolink has to offer. I will however disagree with you on your CX comparison stating that the CX810 is better than the CX410. Even with your images I see better clarity in the CX410. Regardless I am really liking the CX lineup from Reolink for night time security.

    From other videos i've watched the CX410 seems to perform a lot better than the cx810 in extremely low light conditions. Even at 7:50 in your video you can see that it has much more detail in the shadows and across the road. the car parked in the driveway in the top right or the metal pole at your 2 o'clock position aren't even visible on the cx810.

    This video is an awesome roundup! I am a little confused on your Duo 2 vs Duo 3 comments though. In the footage you showed it seemed like the Duo 3 had better image quality all around. (not massively different though) The text on the signs were a lot easier to read in almost every test. Just surprised me when you ranked them A vs D

    • @TheHookUp
      @TheHookUp  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +6

      The thing that's really important to consider when looking at security footage is whether any new information can be obtained from one image over the other. The only difference between the Duo 2 and Duo 3 images is sharpening and "edge detection" algorithms. You could easily bring the Duo 2 image into photoshop and make it look like the Duo 3 by running a few filters.

      FYI - have been tweaking my new Trackmix POE for almost a week. Lots of emails to support. First - If you have any bushes or trees that sway in the breeze - bingo your motion is triggered. I have to "erase" tracking on most of my front yard due to too many moving bushes. After moving the cam to track just my walkway, the person tracking started working. Yea. Then setting the horizontal panning for tracking - NO JOY. the camera focuses in on someone walking up the walk, but will not pan as they ascend the stairs and approach the front door - all of this is included in the horizontal capture. So frustrated - ready to spend the extra cash for a true PTZ.

    When do you think you will do this type of video again, I just watched the Unify version but I think i still like reolink cameras more.
    Feels like reolink wifi doorbell is way to go unless we think a new version coming along, and i went to the website and there seems to be a new set of duo that are coming soon... I got three POE spots to fill , garage door (ceiling mount), back door side mount, and front door side mount... kinda see a new set of cameras coming in with larger aperture... might look at buying at black friday/xmas time and see what models are around
    great videos, really feel i get a good sense of what is out there and fairly evaluated, thank you for your service!

    I was super excited to setup a new Trackmix poe after watching this video. Good info. Update - have been tweaking my new Trackmix POE for almost a week. Curious if other folks are having this issue. Support has been pretty quick to respond and followup, but still not working yet 😒

    • @TheHookUp
      @TheHookUp  หลายเดือนก่อน

      The issues you're talking about are not related to the trackmix specifically, but all auto tracking systems ("true PTZ" or not). I know this seems obvious, but have you made sure that you have "person" as the only thing checked in "objects to track"?

    • @RogerCoville
      @RogerCoville หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    Can you perhaps test the cameras in term of looking against the light? I mean those WDR stuff.
    I have 10 of RLC-810A around my house and one that is installed inside of the house but points out to the street through the window has the problem that I can set it to either see the inside clearly or outside clearly. Outside is a lot brighter than inside.
    I have 1 Hikvision with ColorVue and it performs much better as I could see both inside and outside at the same time.

    GREAT Video! I've seen others you've made in my search for a good 4k system. I am really now leaning towards the RLN8-410 box with a mix of cameras you had laid out here, and I wondered if you had seen any indication of it getting a bit overwhelmed with 8+ 4k streams set to as good of quality and biggest framerate as possible? I've seen some videos of people saying 4k systems that have like 8+ cameras CAN get overwhelmed with all the feeds and get a little janky on the feeds. For this reason, I started considering maybe getting a Synology NAS, which is kinda geared towards getting hit with data. I want to hardwire all cameras to a switch in a back house. From this video alone, I am now back on the Reolink train, is just for my home, and don't think I will have more than 8 cameras, but, I'd like them to be 8MB at as close to 29.87 for at least 2 or 3 of them. Have you seen or heard of any instances of the RLN8-410 choking on having too many high quality streams, or do you know of a good cheat sheet of how to set the streams for optimal performance?

I may run 2 eternity cables in 1 buried conduit pipe.. do you think havibg two csmeras' cables in the same co dust pipe might cause aby sorta crosstalk or distortion? Or would it be ok to run 2 cables in 1 pipe? Others may be indivudual, or no more than 2 in 1 conduit. Just curious!

    Another brilliant video and Perfect timing - i am moving into a new house and have been deciding between unifi protect and reolink for security (unifi could be more of everything in one place but reolink has the features/value). Its a townhouse so there are 2 exposed sides of the house with an alleyway beside the garage and wall of the next house that takes you to the maindoor. After this video, i am considering
    1. Duo flood at the front covering the garage door and driveway
    2. 1 track mix and 1 RLC843A covering the alleyway to the entrance seeing the walkway from the road
    3. 2 Doorbell wifis for the front and the patio doors (missed to get ethernet drops during planning :))
    4. RLC 843A at the back covering the patio
    Does this strategy make sense?
    For the NVR - should i get the 8 channel one you recommended here but i cannot get the wifi doorbell cameras on it? Or should i get their wifi nvr (RLN12W) and add a POE switch so that i can get all the cameras into the same NVR that way? Might help if i wanted to deploy a few wifi indoor cameras in the future as well?

    Awesome work as always!
    I have a problem with every Reolink camera I own and I'm wondering if you've noticed the same issue. Motion that is normally always detected (basic and AI) completely fails for short periods and there is no motion flagged. The only way I know something was there is because the person or vehicle gets picked up by the other cameras. Issue has existed for at least 3 years across multiple firmwares and models.
    With your setup have you noticed this? Motion detected by all cameras but one that misses the motion because detection is briefly frozen or whatever?
    RLN8-410 811, 822, 820, CX810. All basic motion set to 45/50. Person at 100, vehicle 80, pet 90. Size set to smallest box for minimum and 50% of screen for maximum.

    Thanks for doing this , especially the ideal system. I've been trying to decide on an NVR or a Blue Iris setup. Having rated the RLC-843A as A tier and part of your ideal system, have you done a review or comparison between the Reolink RLC-843A and the RLC-1240A? Oh, and on a side note, I watched all of your comparisons on the budget projectors right before the holidays last year, and scored a HAPPRUN 1080p Projector for just shy of $32 taxed and delivered. So thanks for that!

    Great unbiased review! 👍🍻
    It's sad we don't have a CX820 yet as the bullet cameras always have spider web problems, and are not easy to hide in the house architecture, I find bullets cheap looking and unattractive.
    The TrackMix is a great camera for beginners, but after installing a set of 4-8 cameras on each corner (and for every DORI zone), I don't see the need for a PTZ camera anymore. I stopped using PTZ in 2018 when I had enough cameras to cover the entire property. Now that I've added LPR cameras I would not want that bulky TrackMix on my house. It's also harder to mount under the soffit away from the weather, and more prone to suffer IR StarWars effect in weather.
    I agree the dual lens Duos are bad, only for people too lazy to run a second network cable for 2x fixed cameras, difficult to aim, the focus is terrible, and the IR is uneven across the field of view, with glare at the edges of the home.

    Thanks for the video. I have a reolink NVR with various older reolink cameras. As an interesting problem at night, reflective clothes that are designed for night safety (ie road worker vests\clothes) completely blind security cameras, much like head lights on a car. All that can be seen is a bright reflective image, nothing about the person can be seen. All you can determine is that it is person, nothing more.

      As the pinned comment says, Reolink compatibility with Blue Iris seems to be improving, but I'm not ready to give it my stamp of approval. Blue Iris performance is so different based on your processor, RAM, graphics card and what other software is running on the computer and as I've learned many times in the past just because I can get a Reolink camera working on my 2 blue iris machines doesn't mean other people will be problem free.

    This is great!
    I have a long, curving driveway (1/3 mi) that parallels a 30yd wide "greenbelt"
    We already have a reolink NVR and want to add a streaming camera that monitors the entrance to the property and catch wildlife activity in the greenbelt. We have a magnetic induction sensor that dings at the house when a vehicle enters, but we can't see the vehicle until it rounds the bend by the house. This is mostly important when the sensor triggers at night. Was it a false trigger? Someone turning around? A dog with a collar and metal tags?
    We are leaning towards the 16x PTZ camera. However, the focusing issues you pointed out now have me concerned.
    We can run a PoE line with a line booster if needed. Or, use WiFi with a local solar battery at the camera. No power along the driveway.
    Any suggestions on how to fulfill this application?

      RLN410-8 and RLN410-16 are basically the same except for the number of cameras they can handle (8 vs 16). The RLN410-32 is different because you don't plug cameras directly into it but use PoE switches instead and the NVR only records the video feeds, it doesn't power the cameras.
