  • On February 18, 1959, Desmond T. Doss appeared on this episode of the This Is Your Life television program hosted by Ralph Edwards. Doss, who is the subject of Mel Gibson's 2016 film Hacksaw Ridge, refused to bear arms during World War II due to his religious and personal convictions. During this Desmond Doss interview, he is reunited with several people he knew during the war, including Commander Gerald Cooney, who had at one point considered kicking Doss out of the army.

What a wonderful man. I just watched Hacksaw Ridge, I am ashamed to say that I didn’t know of this heroic man. I have military members in my family, and I thought I knew most of the heroes of the service, but this mans actions took my breath away. The actor Andrew Garfield totally captured PFC Doss’s essence, courage, and humility. God Bless this wonderful man and his family.

This is a interview with a real humble American hero. He rescued 75 fallen American soldiers. At the real battle on Hacksaw Ridge . As artillery shells are bombing the area. As Japanese soldiers are on foot patrol looking for wounded American soldiers. Private Desmond Doss is waiting to save as many wounded American soldiers. After his entire battalion left the top of Hacksaw Ridge . Some Japanese soldiers were later interviewed . They claim they tried to shoot , private Desmond Doss. However ;Their riles jammed . This had to be intervention from All Mighty God. Just like the Holy Bible story of King David . Was protected by God. The Holly Bible says : If God is for you , who can be against you . Simply amazing . We can have courage if we know we have God on our side. He refused to carry a rifle . Why ? His faith in God. Plus he really believed in the act of saving lives. Most Americans now days, I question if they really have this kind of faith and courage. Rescuing 75 soldiers . Just imagine you are wounded, artillery shells are falling all around you. Blood and guts are all around you. Dead fallen American soldiers all around you. Bullets flying all around you. Smoke is every where. Your shot in one lung . Plus your shot in both legs. You pray to God , you know very little about to help you. Then in the mist of the fog of war. You see a familiar face. Its private Desmond Doss with out grenades with out a rifle. He checks your pulse and asks you where you are hurt. He is calm and very at peace. As bullets are still flying by your head, and artillery bombs are still dropping every where. Would you believe there is no doubt a living God ? Now all by his self , God gives private Desmond Doss the strength and courage to carry you and tie a rope to your body to get you over a fifty foot cliff. Would you believe in Miracles at this point in your life ???????? If you have not seen the movie : Hacksaw Ridge. I encourage you to see this movie. Directed by : Mel Gipson.

Irony: he was a hero on Hacksaw Ridge and gets a saw as a gift.
Thank you to the greatest generation who put faith first, country second, and family third, and self somewhere behind that.

The Holy Bible says : " No greater love is there then for a man to lay down his life for you. Then in the fog of war as bullets are flying every where as the entire area you laying , comes a familiar face. Its private Desmond Doss. At peace , and asks you where you are hurt. He bandages you up. Then says : " Its alright , I am going to get you help after I get you off this mountain cliff". He is so at peace , you forget bombs , grenades, artillery shells are bombing every where. Dead bodies are laying dead all around you. Plus the enemy Japanese soldiers are walking around with long bayonets and loaded machine guns. They are looking for wounded American soldiers , to spear with a bayonet and then shoot with a loaded machine gun. Yet, here is private Desmond Doss , all relaxed very at peace. Just asking you where you are hurt. Then he calmly says;" Oh, that your going to be all right." " Let me just give you a shot of morphine for the pain". Then he says ; " I only have to get you safely over the cliff ". You were just praying for God to please save you and to please sent a angel. Now , my question is , would you believe in God and that God still does miracles ? I would.

They skip over the Guam and Philippine campaigns in the movie. His commanding officers already admired him before Okinawa, he got the bronze star. Doss thinks the cliff was only 30 ft, army said 70 ft? "Miracle on Hacksaw Ridge" documentary shows the actual cliff today. They estimate it at 10 - 20 meters - looks like around 50 ft. Incredible.

at first when Japan attacked Guam there were only about 200 or so marines stationed there they 5000 well trained Japanese marines assaulted the island they our marines stood there and fought them 5000 vs 200 marines The people of Guam went up into the hills while our Marines fought I have the complete video of this first battle of Guam .The Japanese held the island for 3 years Then we came back .our Air force pounded the island the we took it back PS ,Letters were sent to Washington war department pleading ''we need more help to guard the island to of no avail so those 200+ marines stood their ground and fought bravely
