    There are many standard lenses, including PRO lenses that cover 12mm wide angle, so is the M.Zuiko 12mm F2 prime lens relevant?

    The Olympus M.Zuiko 12mm F2 is a lens I seldom use. This unit was on loan from Olympus Malaysia. This video is not a review of the lens, it is me merely speaking about my experience using this lens, and of course sharing some of my recent shots with it. I love the compact form factor and great image quality. Perhaps this may not seem like a good option for those who own 12-40mm PRO and 12-100mm PRO, but if you need something as small as possible to complement smaller camera bodies, and you need that extra boost of aperture at F2 to brave extreme low light shooting, then the Olympus M.Zuiko 12mm F2 is surely for you.

    In spite of the hype surrounding the 9mm leica 1.7 I find myself leaning towards this lens more some how. Price is against it and it is not weather sealed .... but it seems to be just about right somehow. I would love to see a comparison between the superb 9mm leica and the superb 12mm olympus. I reckon they are both equally good.

      I am also studying the various wide angle options for use on a G9. I am not sure, but it might be that this lens is less warpy on the edges than the PL 12mm. The videos of the PL people's hands warp a lot, but I don't notice this in Robin's video and his hands are very active.

    You are spot on with comments about the 12mm f/2! Both the 12~40mm pro and the 12mm f/2 Prime are very sharp, and in my kit. The prime version is such a joy to use on my Pen-F, that I hesitate to load the zoom at times! I’m not a WA fan, but the prime 12mm f/2 (with hood!) is wonderful combo for the Pen bodies. Robin, I love your shots & perspectives! Your world intrigues me and I love your environmental captures! Best wishes!

    I really want olympus to update this lens. With weather sealing, sharper corners at f2, and a manual focus clutch without discrete steps, this could be a star lens for those that like small primes. Meanwhile, I'm saving up for the panaleica 12mm because of my need for speed at that focal length

    Hi Robin. I love your videos not only because I'm interested in the Olympus system, but because they afford me an opportunity to learn more about the Malaysian culture and lifestyle. This modern high rise apartment building for example. It seems to have its own tennis court and art installations either in the complex or nearby, and you say it attracts hipsters, who I infer are younger college-educated people working in the arts and perhaps high technology. But yet the residents seem to hang their clothing out to dry on the building's outdoor railings, which would be prohibited in a similar building here in the West. Does the building not provide washing machines and dryers and similar amenities? Is that common throughout KL? Just curious and please keep up the great videos...

    • @robinwong
      @robinwong  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Those are low cost apartments for the low income brackets, hence the individual units have very limited space. Hanging out cloths outside is a very common practice here. The apartments come empty, so we have to furnish it ourselves.

    Now that I'm shooting mainly video, I'd prefer to have the 12-40, but I've enjoyed owning and using the 12mm F2 very much.

    I was attracted to the 12mm f/2 when it was first launched - I like 12mm, I like small, I thought f/2 would be impressive. Then I found that when I think 12mm, I often want deeper DOF, so f/2 didn't keep it's attraction. And last time I remember, it's not a cheap lens (it should not be, it is well made). So I didn't get it. One day maybe, someone will sell theirs cheap to me, hint, hint...

    • @robinwong
      @robinwong  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I get what you mean, when it was first launched there were not that many options for small and compact primes, and the 12mm F2 seems like a great option to keep the camera and lens combo as small and as light as possible.

    • @robinwong
      @robinwong  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I don't think the 9-18mm is in the same league in terms of build quality and optical performance when compared to 12mm F2 or any of the PRO zoom lenses. Hence I left it out. The 9-18mm is a fantastic lens, maybe I will do a video about it some time soon.

      I agree- each lens is magical in it’s uniqueness... how I use a wide lens = tell a story.. show more environment in shot - also great for pix inside apartments or confined areas where I cannot step back much ..also SUPER for building shots ...you can fit sooooo much in an environment shot. @@robinwong coz I think it's a good lens for shooting stars and want to see the results.

      @@MrSamsonSiu I don't shoot the stars. I am sure other photographers do that.

      The 12mm is good lens for milky way, but I am using the Laowa 7.5mm more for that because the 12mm is pretty tight in most cases.
