I love how troll hunting involves the real world tedium of having to fill out the proper paperwork. It makes "Troll Hunter" feel more realistic and grounded than most mainstream movies.

The atmosphere is great. And you're right, that it gives the mundane sides of Troll hunting so much time makes it feel much more real. More like people in a real documentary than actors acting. And I enjoy the constant tongue in cheek the movie has.

Trolls were probably always grounded in reality. The mention of the rocks they throw at each other could even the basis for them.
As back before the ice age effect theory, (which explain all those strange boulders laying around) they came up with the most reasonable reason for those.
As for their issues with christians, maybe it was just a good way to deter missionaries when the stories were spun, the lore woven.

I learned English in Norway while in middle school, and my mom got super into norwegian folklore which is basically 90% about trolls; lotta kids books, souvenirs, plushies, stuff like that.
So when I watched this movie and recognized each type of troll I was like "oh yeah, I read about those guys, cool".

The line at the end "Norway's got Trolls" was from a press junket about the Norwegian energy sector.
"Troll" is an oil and gas field in the North Sea.
The line was so odd, that they felt they had to use it for the movie.
IMO this is a great film and I'm so glad that the rumor of it being remade for a US audience was just a rumor.

I was raised on a Res., and there were many nights we'd all get together, have a nice fire, eat and enjoy the Elders' sharing stories and Tales. I truly wish I'd given them more of my attention, and documented them, because they are really something that has to be seen/heard to be believed.
After getting out of the military, I spent almost a decade driving around the U.S. (Mostly in the Great SouthWest), camping and just being a 'Hobo,' checking out old towns/mines and geology.
I've spent so many nights under the stars, and I've seen/heard some damned strange things out there.
Sadly, I had no video or camera (for night shots), so all I have is my memories, zero proof.
      That's alright.
I know I'm just a mere human, and terribly ignorant about many of the 'Mysteries.'
That keeps me alert, and VERY respectful.

As a Norwegian, I got surprised when I saw you dropped this reaction. I just finished your lost reaction, that's how I found your channel just a month ago or so. This movie is really good, loved it when it came out, and they've based a lot of the trolls on the really typical old Norwegian Fairy tales. The documentary POV styles really make a difference. What also made this movie feel "real" was that the prime minister scene, was the actual current prime minister at that time; Jens Stolenberg. He is currently Secretary General of NATO. I loved that they got him to do that part.

    • @tengu4105
      @tengu4105 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

@@andrewe2057Trolls in Norse mythology have a very curious origin, because the word troll in Old Norse was a general term to refer to the spirits that dwelled in the earth and mountains, more specifically to the dwarves or dark elves, who were called dvergar if they were called dwarves or Svartalfar if they were dark elves. They live just inside the earth in a kind of subway dimension called Svartalfheim.
The dwarves, if exposed to sunlight, would turn to stone, so they always wore a magical red cap that protected them from the sun's rays. However the image of the "trolls" changed when Christianity arrived in the Nordic countries and replaced the religion of Odin, so many nature spirits were demonized, among them the trolls, which were confused for some reason with the Jotüns, which are the Nordic giants. In fact, in many occasions the Jotüns are associated with trolls although they have nothing to do with them.

The song he was singing is an old lullaby, it's about a troll-mother singing her troll-babies to sleep, a bit of a Norwegian insider joke.
All the various designs used in the movie, harken to designs Norwegians have grown up with - there's even inclusions of more Swedish-styles, as a little show of solidarity
As the tone implies, this isn't like a dead serious horror - it's a fun little reminiscing of a strange cultural phenomenon that ancient Scandinavians truly believed in; an "other" occupying the deep forests, the mountains, that could be anything from a beautiful lady by a forest pond (with a tail, hidden behind her) or a mountain-sized mega-troll wandering the endless plateaus.
Fun fact; the prime minister really did acknowledged "Norway has Troll" (it's like fish, it's always plural) in reference to the Troll oil platform

One of those fun random movies that you run into. Not some franchise movie shoved down your throat by billion-dollar publicity, but just a cool ride made well.

good film , I have the original , and the one dubbed in english , now I would suggest troll (2022) basically a norwegian kaiju film , there`s only one troll in the film , but he`s a big one , like the giant troll in this film ! think you`ll like it ! good story line and a bit more action ! and this critter comes into a city !

There are so much comedy in this movie, but most of it is lost in translation, need to know the language and the tone the say it in, the troll hunter and his boss is 2 very well known comedians, also several other big Norwegian comedians in the movie, like the polish worker guy.

I think Mrs. Movies gave her personal best complement to a film she could give. Glad she enjoyed it. Next month I picked what is, to me, a staple action anime movie from the 90s. I was inspired to make the selection because of Markus picking Ghost in the Shell and because they got a comment or two last live stream of people wanting more anime. Should be a good one.
