Great Value Late Night Eats in Waikiki! Amazing Udon & Cheesy Aloha Melt! Touring Honolulu Hawaii

- It's the first night in Hawaii visiting exploring Waikiki in Honolulu on the island of Oahu. First few hours there I got the see the sunset and thought to myself... why can't I just stay here permanently. It's nice to dream but back to reality, we need to deal with some real issues! It's late at night and we need to find a nice meal! While finding a place to dine in Waikiki is certainly not an issue, finding a good, reasonably priced establishment can be a bit of a challenge and one that I would happily try to overcome.
Walking along the vibrant streets of Waikiki, there certainly isn't a shortage of restaurants, but finding that one perfect place to satisfy your cravings can be stressful...there's only so much one can eat and we'd better make it count. Relying on the wisdom of crowds, I decided to head over to an establishment where the lines where long. This brought me to @marugameudon3617 and after inspecting the line and getting some reassurance from Michelle and Jose from @michellejosefoodandtravel that it was worth the wait, I queued up! Line was moving quickly and before I knew it, I was in the restaurant watching the chefs prepare the hand made udon noodle bowls and fresh, crispy tempura. It's an assembly line where you get to construct your meal, from your noodle or rice bowl to the dozens of tempura offerings, it's easy to go overboard, and that's okay! You don't want to stand in line again to pick up something you missed out the first time!
An intended light meal turned into a heavy one and a nice way to work off the fullness is with a late night walk... turn the corner, you see souvenir shop, turn another corner, the lights and sounds of a Tiki bar greats you! Continue walking, and you'll sure to find a another great place to eat! This journey took me to a place with long lines again called Aloha Melt, serving up great patty melts! The smelly of bacon, onions, and sizzling beef and the promise of melty cheese was irresistible. Stopping in for meal number two, there was a line but well worth the wait as sandwiches are made to order. What a great way to kick off a visit to Hawaii and a great way to end the evening.

No small luaus for me. When you land go to The Tourist booth and ask them about it will probably cost you on a couple hundred dollars. But well worth it 🥰

Agreed, I actually got a bit of a sticker shock looking at the prices... Great to see affordable places around the tourist area... I think the further you go out of the beaches, the more affordable things are

Oh, generally all the places are pretty good ... That udon noodles were absolutely superb 😋
Did I hear it wrong? 5.99 a bowl of udon? Probably that's why there is a long time
Yes, it's 4.95 for a small bowl and 5.95 for a big bowl. However, they tend to get you with the tempura at the end.. it adds up really quickly 😃
That’s another thing I immediately noticed…those prices are still considerably cheaper than what they are at Marugame Udon in the mainland!
Marugame Udon is my all-time favorite place to eat in Honolulu. Nice to see you making a video of it.

Omg when my husband and I were in Waikiki we went to Aloha Melt 3 times. It is soooo good! We ate so much good food in Hawaii but we still talk about that patty melt all the time! And the spicy sauce they include…yum

I had the bacon patty melt last Saturday at Aloha Melt- sooo good! I could only eat half so I gave half to a friend and he had to go back again. Definitely recommend.

Hey Tim it’s been a while at least five years since I’ve been to Hawaii but I have eaten that udon at the restaurant and it is so good freshly made probably one of the best spots on the island. haven’t tried the patty melt I don’t think that was there when I went but when I go back will definitely give it a try.

The Marugame Udon food looks delicious and amazing. The potato croquettes are my favorite. The Aloha Melt also looks tasty. You needed to walk off all that food, that evening. LOL The Marugame Udon in DTLA was closed for the longest while, but reopened recently. I saw a long line outside the small restaurant, a few weeks ago. Now that I have seen the food selections, I will have to check it out the next time I venture downtown.
I haven't been to Oahu since 2018. The pandemic and lockdown killed my Aloha vacation plans. Thanks for the two food recommendations. I might go there in 2023. Glad to see that it was not overcrowded in Waikiki.

Aloha Tim. If your still on the island and looking for some really amazing Hawaiian fusion, look no further than Chicken & Brisket. They have really great desserts and the Yum Korean style Chicken is insanely delicious. The Kalbi Carne Asada Nachos and the Mac N' cheese Corn is a must have. Support these local chefs as they make authentic local fusion done right. Best fried chicken on the island by far!

I always thought you worked for Coca-Cola and figured that's why you wore all the shirts, visited Waikiki this past May and had so many wonderful meals, it's not cheap, unless you venture away from Waikiki, I recommend the Liliha bakery, Leonard's for Malasadas, Rainbow drive inn for plate lunches, and the North shore shrimp trucks, and don't forget the shave ice, looking forward to more Hawaii adventures, thanks for sharing Tim

Marukame udon is the best! They also have another location in town, hotel and bishop. Theres not really much parking but if ever in the area the line isnt bad at all. The chicken tempura is good but I love the ika one best. The curry udon is good too!

Tim: my family is from Ohau so your video brings back so many great memories. I've been planning a trip back so I am looking forward to your videos. I highly recommend Chinatown and a local dim sum plus I recommend visiting locals food shop outside tourists zone. But if you do want a tourist attraction I recommend the Polynesian Center with the Hawaiian Luau dinner when I went it was fantastic plus I recommend the submarine ride. Take care.

@@TimLeeLetsGo I recommend Fook Lam but research it for yourself. I think it is the oldest and best. You also should try the Manapua ( like char sui bao with a more spongey dough) and the Hawaiian desserts. Have fun and happy eating.

Hope you like the Udon! There is also a sister Udon outlet in San Francisco at the Stonestown Mall! Way less crowded, but food is basically the same menu.
There’s also one in San Ramon too. The menu is not as extensive as the one in Waikiki, but it’s yummy when I miss Hawaii.
Really enjoying the udon restaurant and can understand how there can be so many locations 😃
There is another outlet in Honolulu that is never crowded, just uber from Waikiki and avoid’the long lines

I used to live in Oahu, Hawaii from 2002 to 2009. It's used to be affordable but now, it's way too expensive. So I came back to Manila, Philippines.
How is Manila? yes, I got sticker shock especially in the Waikiki area.. $8 for a jug of water!!!

So glad you are in Waikiki! Our Vancouver family has gone there for years pre-pandemic. We used to go to the AYCE Lobster & Steak at the Sheraton Princess Kuilani but our last visit, we could not find any AYCE Lobster, Seafood... ANYTHING of that sort. However, we did enjoy our AYCE brunches at the various Sheratons but not the same 😞. Can you check into AYCE's there so we will know for our next visit? The last place we suggested to friends, had gone under and the Sheraton's had drastically cut back. Many thanks! Have a wonderful time there.
