Damn, the suspense! I was on the edge of my seat . And I'm like, watch the hose with the torch. I was flinching, waiting for the prop to explode off the shaft, taking the rudder out. Great job!
Thanks Straw Carpenter. The first time we used a setup like this was with the Fish Tale, twenty some odd years back. I must have had that portapower maxed out and nothing was happening. The yard manager came over, gave it a wack with a hammer, and it exploded off the shaft. What a sight and racket! Seems like it happened yesterday, and that was in the back of my mind. Thought I would wrap some scrap line around the shaft as a shock absorber, and promptly melted it down with the torch, haha. Figured it was better to let it burn than reach in there. What a fun day!!
I was piloting a fifty foot steel barge on the Thames river in Britain, just coming in to moor up at a lock, showing off a little, coming in a bit hot, then full reverse to slide into the mooring and the prop came off. We were able to jump off and slow her to a halt with the ropes. Still embarrassing. Luckily had a diver buddy who retrieved the prop from the mud & put it back on for a few beers.
AWESOME VIDEO YOU GUYS ARE RIGHT ON THE MARK ,I PRESSURED WASHED A FEW BOATS IN MY DAY HEAVY DUTY, WORK GREAT JOB ON THE PROP .YOU SAVE A LOT OF MONEY DOING YOUR SELFS YOUR SONS ARE LEARNING SO MUCH .YOUR A GOOD DAD AND TEACHER .I LOVE WHAT YOU ALL ARE DOING .YOU GUYS ARE GROWING GOD BLESS YOU ALL.
I sure was glad when it came loose. That will be one fine vessel when you guys complete the over haul. The blue bottom looks nice. If you are from my part of the world, we call that Carolina Blue. Tight lines.
Would be neat to see you guys getting Emerald setup on the grid and such. I take it you have make sure the keel is in the right position so that it leans against the dock? Wild that all that is doing is just leaning right so that it doesn't tip over!
Same thing I thought. First time seeing her on the hard. Some good anti foul on her too. Probably the old school stuff that works, easy going for T!…EPIC prop pull! Do you guys make a custom prop pull for all your boats?…Great work!
Thanks! We always borrowed one for the Fish Tale, so we knew how they were set up. Thought it was time to get our own and figured it would make some good content. Need to fab up a set of plates for the Fish Tale now.
Beautiful blue color on the bottom part of the Emerald Isle. Enjoyed seeing everyone. Sure is alot involved with boat maintenance. You've saved by doing it yourself at the same time, teaching your sons. Have a good week.
Excellent Work Guys! I'm guessing your water temperature is fair bit chillier than our 20 deg. C(google leads me to believe that's about 68 funky freedom units) so Len must've been glad of those waders. All the best again from a dedicated Aussie fan..
Our water temp just north of where there at is around 68F du4ing summer and d9wn to 33f in the winter time and north of where I'm at the sea freezes solid. Gday auzzie fan, and hello fr9m alaska
I had forgot about the large tidal swings up there. What a great way to do bottom work and not to pay to be hauled out of dry docked as long as any hull openings can be buttoned/closed up in time. Tides are about twice what we get here in the north east US(approx 6') where as yours can be around 12' swing as long as planned right
Nice mystery tool to Captain! Only ever seen one prop pulled off of a diesel and that was a long time ago.. See outboards all the time and they are bit easier LOL
She's in really nice shape bellow the waterline!! Your gonna have a really great boat once your all done!!! Love your family work ethics!! Big fan from the great seafaring city of LIVERPOOL UK 👍
Len, Don't know about you but I always saved my old Ballard Nuts (looked like lots of zinc left when you pulled EI wheel nut) and plate zincs for use in the off season. I installed to a nice heavy copper line fed thru a scupper and down to main ground to reduce wear and tear on underwater zincs. Don't know how hot your basin is but mine was hot (many large steel hulls poorly grounded and pleasure boats with dangling power cords) and consumed zincs way to rapidly and they're not getting any cheaper these days I'm sure. (They also worked well strapped to bottom of a personnal use dungy trap as weight). Fun vid...lots of memories brought back doing same! Thanks!
Hey guys! I really love watching your channel cause it's the same concept in maine lobstering, live on a small small island called north haven, been lobstering my whole life, would love to come check out your guy's tricks,
I have found with my vessels when removing the prop that if you get two hammers and hit the centre part of the prop at the same time most times it will loosen. Was something an old shipwright showed me and has worked for me. Pops it off the taper.
Love the work you all are putting in. Out of curiosity, do you think that could be the source of where the water is coming into your hull through those intakes?
I know some of the water was coming in through delamination of the fiberglass on the deck/cockpit. In one of the episodes Len actually tastes the water for salinity which it was very low or nonexistent, I forget
What was that stuff dripping off the prop shaft after you applied heat to it? Some sort of lubricant or remains of that hard stuff that was on the nuts??
It was a piece of line I wrapped around the shaft. My thought was it would act as a cushion if the prop came loose suddenly and with a lot of force. I was afraid to reach in there to remove it after it started on fire, so I just left it alone. LOL.
how is the boat not falling over at the dry dock?, seems like the bottom could kick out or wind idk looks sketchy. awesome stuff tho just looks like the boat is just leaning against the dock
Two dollars per foot for a tide. So for us about $200 for two tides. Haul out at the yard runs $1000 or so plus daily storage rate of $15- 20. We just schedule grid time with the Harbormaster. First come, first serve, so you can schedule for as long as you need. Have seen a few vessels on there for close to a week.
The Grid A nautical frontier I tried to picture clusters of repairs as they moved across the beams What did they look like? Prop Shafts? Hull Paint? Were the barnacles like exfoliants? I kept dreaming of a world I thought I'd never see And then one day I got a youtube vid
There is a set screw on top of prop shaft. Take screw out then keyway will slide with the prop and come off. Its on the top of the prop ,the hole in the prop . Geesh.
Try watching the video to the end Wesley. You don't "tap" a 40" prop that weighs 150 lbs off with a hammer. You use a prop puller. This took nearly 10 tons of force to break loose.
Damn, the suspense! I was on the edge of my seat . And I'm like, watch the hose with the torch. I was flinching, waiting for the prop to explode off the shaft, taking the rudder out. Great job!

Yikes! Sounds like a good crew that knew what to do in a pinch. Great save!
Your greenies not looking like m7ch of a greenie anymore, good to see him catching on, keep up the good job young man

Great episode! Get to see tide rolling in and prop removal and bottom washing! EIS team is rolling along! Keep rolling! 👍👍👊👊
nice puller , and real nice work

Hull looks great! 👍
Thanks Romaga! First time for us seeing her out of the water. A lot more bottom to clean compared to the Fish Tale! Happy with how things look!

Nice work! Slow and steady wins the race they say. I wasn't going to figure that out!
Like # 90...just signing in...gotta watch in intervals...
Update as I watch lol

Haha, enjoy, Gold!
@@EISAlaska lol you said Sunshine right after I said sunlight on that hull side lol...excellent....still watching

Yes...150 to 170°
That was awesome. Watched whole thing...bedtime now lol

Well it's not only fishing out there. Lot of work involved
I can't wait to see it all painted and do ,but at the same time I will miss the process
that tide change is truly astonishing
Kudos to you guys.
Love from Nashville'TN ! Yes I was watching . Tanner crab seAson for the 3rd time.. Edit: we love you 'T'...
This boat is looking good & has an exciting role to play, in the near future. I do enjoy your joy & all the things that get done! 😀🇺🇸👏
Thanks for the video guys
Do enjoy your work, it is interesting. Especially, the fish caught, such a healthy food. Certainly, warm regards to all your family.👏🌟😀

Greetings my extended family
Heya, John!
nice job
I'm sure you've said in one of your videos. But when will she be ready to fish. The work is coming along great.
Use need a turbo nozzle for your pressure washer it will clean the grime off easier

Just a thought but you wouldn’t hurt my feelings non if videos were longer lol just saying I enjoy spending time with you guys stay safe my friends

I see it is your new boat. Paint on haul look great. When did uounput prop shaft in. If I remember you cut your old shaft out
New shafts (intermediate and tail shaft) are on deck waiting to be installed. Getting close to scheduling haul out at the boat yard to finish that up.
Plank to stand on to pressure wash sides
Another good video, enjoy watching you all working.
Do you have to pay to use the grid.
Yes we do. It's two dollars per foot of vessel length for a tide.
Good work guys, got to spend money to make money...
was this on the king tides?
What was that stuff dripping off the prop shaft after you applied heat to it? Some sort of lubricant or remains of that hard stuff that was on the nuts??

Question, Is there a fee to park at the grid ? How long can it stay there ? Thank you
Two dollars per foot for a tide. So for us about $200 for two tides. Haul out at the yard runs $1000 or so plus daily storage rate of $15- 20. We just schedule grid time with the Harbormaster. @@EISAlaska love the Vids , the fiber glass work is mesmerizing.
Thanks Dave!
Is that your new boat you took to dry dock
Shall we call you captain Dad!
In from brazil
You shouldn't leave the pressure washer running without water passing thru to cool it off.
What would a new prop that size cost!
Depends on type and alloy, Michael. 32" Dyna Quad Bronze prop runs about 5K. In Nibral, $6500. Our wheel is 40" diameter, so I'm guessing 7- 8 grand.
Are you going to paint the new boat Emerald Green?

@@EISAlaska Wow! Thanks guys! I love your content, the Tron soundtrack popped into my head this morning when your video came up about The Grid!
Hi guys.
When will you take us subscribers fishing on this wonderful boat?
Hi, just out of curiosity, who was the closest too knowing the mystery tool..
Hi Josh. Several folks had the right answer. There were also some very interesting guesses. Thanks for all the comments and answers from everyone!
I sure hope pressing it back on is easier than pulling it for you guys sakes
You guys are funny to watch. Have someone finish the pressure washer part of it. Your like old people screwing ,too funny !
When is you getting your boat you doing up likes your videos
Hi
Hi Marcos!
ONE person doing the work with the whole crew there funny
Remove the key on the prop and tap it off. Your turning 1 one day job into 3. Chop chop let's go!
There is a set screw on top of prop shaft. Take screw out then keyway will slide with the prop and come off. Its on the top of the prop ,the hole in the prop . Geesh.
