    This watch shook the watch world. Almost disrupted the industry. Something fashion brands claim they do daily. No one was expecting this, a thin, in house 39mm remastering of an icon? Well, surely it will be around the $5000 mark with its antimagnetic silicone hairspring and 70 hour power reserve! Well it is much more affordable at $3700 USD, prices increase yearly. But in the luxury tool watch world, the Black Bay 58 is still hard to beat! I would say 5 years after its release no one as even come close to this level of value, luxury, and quality build from a prestigious house like Tudor SA.

    Best watch I’ve owned - perfect size, super legible, under the radar, certified chronometer, quality brand, 70hr power reserve, lovely bracelet and clasp. If Tudor were gonna upgrade it I’d ask for drilled lugs and on the fly adjustment but that’s it, otherwise it’s perfect.

      I think the drilled lugs might interrupt the clean look of the side profile, but they are handy

    BB58 is hyped and it’s for a good reason .. nothing can touch it for the price point, even watches that cost almost twice as much cannot compare. I ended up choosing a BB58 blue on steel for my wedding watch, absolutely love it!

    I have this exact watch. I have a 7-inch wrist and 39mm looks perfect on me. To be honest, there are very few people who can get away with wearing a watch bigger than 41mm. Bigger than that is just cartoonish. I'll happily wear a 36/34-inch vintage watch too. As for the Back Bay itself, I'm very happy with it. Superb time-keeper and a handsome piece that seems to be holding its value exceptionally well. Genuinely can't find a single fault with it.

    Every time I pick it up, I just marvel at how beautiful it is. It is probably aesthetically one of the nicest things I have in my possession. And about it being boring - I once had a friend see it from across the room and say, “what a gorgeous watch, what brand is it?” I have never gotten bored with it, and I think it will far outlive its hype.

    This will remain a popular seller in 2022 and super sought after in years to come. I own both the Black/Gilt and its wonderful Blue brother, both on the bracelet. They currently share equal wrist time and I know I'm spoilt. I also have cherished my classic 16610 Rolex Sub date for 20 years, which is still king in my collection, plus an Omega SM300 alongside a handful of various field watches. I must say the BB58s suit all occasions and are still at a great price point.

    This was my retirement gift to myself in 2019 while on a post retirement vacation…. Love , love the watch it has a warm rich color tone to it and the red pip really ties in the overall look. I picked up my grail Submariner 124060 from my AD in Oct ‘21 but got rid of the Pelagos LHD. Missed the Pelagos in my collection and I was close to getting a BB58 however my AD called 3 weeks later to offer me the Pelagos FXD so l couldn’t turn that one down.
    I dropped by my AD to say hello and decided to try on the BB58 black and gilt dial - I am really tempted to add this to the collection however the Sub is getting most of my wrist time along with the FXD and Speedmaster.

    I have to admit, that after selling my blue bay 58 to put towards the purchase of the 925 58, I have ultimately concluded that the steel 58 is my favorite Tudor diver. Now there are things about the 925 that I do like better, such as the super sick grey dial/bezel combo, as well as, the all brushed surfaces of the watch case, but overall, the steel versions have more benefits. I am a bracelet guy, so not having that option on the 925 bugged me (although I probably wouldn’t want an all silver bracelet anyway). Another downside of the 925 vs the steel, was the case material itself, which for me and my small collection and my lifestyle, I never should have considered a precious metal watch over a harder material watch such as steel. Initially, I was very enamored with the uniqueness of a modern silver filled watch, and I still believe that the 925 is more unique and has the potential to be more sought than the steel version years from now, but the steel version is more practical and has more of what I want and need in a watch right now. I don’t have a huge collection or budget (I wear 3 watches on regular rotation), so had my overall collection budget been larger, than that would’ve made more sense for me to add a watch like the 925.
    So yeah, after that experiment, my daily is the Blue Bay 58 once again! And while I’m always on the hunt for a potential replacement for one of my other two regular watches, the Blue Bay 58 will be a permanent part of my collection.
    Side note: currently the new METAS red bezel/gilt 41 has caught my attention due to Tudor slimming down the case from the earlier 41’s, although I’m still not convinced that I would like it better than the 58’s. The new 54 is so badass, as well, but ultimately, I’m beyond content with the 58, so I can’t imagine trying to pursue another Tudor diver anytime soon.
    Anyway, rant over. Keep up the great work, Aiden

    It is the very question I am asking. Barring my father’s 1962 Omega, I currently have Grand Seiko and Seiko - no ‘Swiss Luxury’ timepiece. Have been considering the BB58 for months. Undecided which version but likely to be the Black version. What could I buy instead??? I have been around the houses for months and nothing comes up as a solid direct competitor!!!! So you have just confirmed those feelings. 🙂

    Fantastic watch, no arguments there. But I prefer the larger Black Bay Black, the 41mm. It shouldn't be overlooked, if you are waiting for the 58. Sure it is a couple of mm thicker, wider and longer, but you will be surprised how well it still sits on the wrist. The only thing the 58 has that the 41mm doesn't, is the gold numerals on the bezel. I do like that a lot, it makes it look very warm.
    So yes the 58 is still top dog for most people, but lets give some of that appreciation to its big brother too.

    I’m always the kind of person who has a watch the has a Date Complication on the watch specially at the 3 o’clock and have found it odd for a watch to not have one. But after owning this BB58 I actually LIKE it without the date complication. It does t ruin the symmetry of the watch, all flowing !!! I have the 41mm BB GMT Pepsi and I can see it without the Date but of course it would defeat the GMT purpose !!

    The new price is 3800, or 4113.50 in Texas after taxes. Just bought the navy blue 58, they had the black dial as well, but I really liked the blue personally. They also had the 925. I liked the silver more, but the case back was the killer on that one. I don’t think the movement is that flashy movement that you wanna show off, and the added thickness didn’t help.
    A little side note, I have a 7.25 inch wrist, the 925 leather strap worked perfect, but none of the Tudor nato straps fit me. I wanted to order one but after trying them on it just didn’t work. I wish Tudor made their straps in larger sizes.
    I also tried on the Tudor BB 41, just to see how it would fit on my wrist, it was a monster! I’ve had other 41’s that had a nice fit, may be the lug to lug was the issue?

    I cannot disagree with any of the points you made, there are some who deride the bracelet for the faux rivets but I think they add character. I've been very pleased with mine. I'd guess the best alternative to this watch would be the blue one but my preference is the black and gold. I would also put the Oris Aquis call 400 as a great alternative but that is a very different style watch with the integrated bracelet and I think you call it a 'kettle' case.

    I picked up by BB58 today. I went looking a couple of weeks ago and my AD didn't have one in stock. He called this morning and it was mine by mid-afternoon. So far I am very impressed with everything about it. The size, weight, and thinness are probably the best aspects. By the way, I noticed on your timegrapher you were using a lift angle of 52. From what I can find the lift angle of the MT5402 movement is 49. My timegrapher shows 0 s/d across the board except for one measurement at -1 s/d. This one is going to see a lot of wrist time.

    • @EscapementWatch

I didn’t think about have a nice place to lie to think. Thinking and reflecting and being in a creative space is essential. Bed should stay. In regards to the royal, it has seemed to divide a lot of people. Even the person at the botique was trying to tell I should go on the list and put the money towards a black bay like yours. Something just clicked about the date just chapter ring and the medieval look of the thing. The bracelet with no micro-adjusts was also a gamble, as you know they take your money before they size the bracelet. I got lucky just. Could be a fraction looser for summer. It’s the end of winter here. The desire is still their for the royal after the hunt. The black bay … I have to get it the pull is too strong even though it’s so hyped.

    Guys why would you chose BB58 vs standard BB (if same color)?

    • @The_Igloo
      @The_Igloo 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Simply because of the proportions. The 41mm is very tall, which means the slab side is too prominent and throws the proportion off. It is also too top heavy and protrudes out from the wrist too much. But your mileage may vary. You should definitely try them on in a shop (if there is any stock).

    • @davemcc7713
      @davemcc7713 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I have both the Black Bay 41 blue and the BB58 blue. First, they may not be for the same buyer at all, given the differences in wrist sizes among the population. I don't think they are watches that most people would cross shop as an either/or option. Generally, I suspect it would be one or the other.
      Second, because they are so very, very different, I am happy to have them share a place in my collection. Sometimes you want a small, thin tool watch. Sometimes you feel like swinging around a hefty chunk of iron. Despite the weight and proportions of the 41, I find that it is still a very comfortable watch to wear. It looks big. It feels big but I could still wear it indefinitely if I had to.

    • @lyso666
      @lyso666 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I’m used to wear a Formula 1 GMT 41mm which I only recently discovered was 41mm actually which I don’t see as bulky at all… that’s why for the 39mm BB I was wondering if not too small. Sure need to give a try at AD.
