    I agree. It’s a great intro to DBG’s and the theme really shines in the game. I also felt it was pretty light and immediately felt the desire for expansion content. I would love to see KOTOR content, different factions, like a Scum deck, Sith deck, or different Jedi/Sith factions Jedi Guardian/Consular/Sentinel vs Sith Marauder/Assassin/Spy…

    • @meeple
      @meeple  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      We'd thought of different factions too, but the tricky thing would be having to manage the overall deck with every play depending on faction choice. It'll be interesting to see what they do with any expansion content.

    I'm with Ryan. It's an 8 for me. I don't agree with the people saying the game is swingy or that it needs house rules. I've played 12 times so far and only one of those was a blowout win. The rest were very tight. Looking forward to seeing what they do with expansions.

    FFG has so many art assets and plenty of popular characters and ships left that I would almost bet money an expansion will be ready for Gen Con.
    I definitely agree that the galaxy row can be a bit swingy but I like that sometimes because it can make for memorable arc of that particular game. I played the Imperials once where I got a lot of resources early but no capital ships came out for me until late game. But by then I decided to leave those ships up there and created a blockade for my opponent who liked purchasing and placing cards on top of his draw deck.

    It's kind of a sad state of affairs when you think about it.
    Games companies like FFG are now incentivised to sell you a base box that has "nothing/boring" content in it... with the promise that "if you buy expansion after expansion after expansion - at some point in the future, the game might become interesting".
    When all of the expansion content is already designed and ready to go and "could have" been included in the base game - were the market not so used to being exploited.

    • @meeple
      @meeple  ปีที่แล้ว

      I wouldn’t call this product exploitive at all. I feel it’s geared for more casual players in order to be as accessible as possible, but also designed with a longer-term fan in mind too. It’s just a business model to broaden the audience, but that audience still has the choice at the end of the day.

    • @FoldsFive
      @FoldsFive ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I disagree. The core box is plenty of fun, and has more than enough varied content. It's a great solid game that has my non-gamer wife returning for just one more round. I won't be upset if there aren't any expansions - there is enough there for tight and balanced gameplay.

    • @meeple
      @meeple  ปีที่แล้ว

      @@FoldsFive It does include plenty to have fun with for a while, but it's hard not to imagine what they can add. 😁

      @@meeple Oh, I won't *begrudge* any expansions! I'd like R2D2 and C3PO if nothing else :)

    • @EmperorSmith
      @EmperorSmith ปีที่แล้ว

      @@FoldsFive Ok... now imagine that core box, but with 3 "expansion cycles" worth of content also included.
      The fact is, all this content was already designed, and then removed - leaving you with the bare minimum.
      Is the base game "fine"?; sure is. Would the full game be 'better'? Sure would.

    Star Wars Deckbuilding Game, 38 euros, 90 cartas en el mazo de mercado, modo solamente para dos jugadores con la caja que compras (aunque permite jugar con el requisito de destruir más o menos bases con un sistema de selección de las mismas). Tiene la opción de destruir las cartas del contrario antes de que las compre. Sería lógico que salieran expansiones, esperemos que de caja precio más pequeños.
    Star Realms Frontiers, 18 euros, 80 cartas en el mazo de mercado, modo para dos y cuatro jugadores, modo solitario contra enemigos "grandes" y modo cooperativo a dos también contra dichos enemigos. Tiene varios modos de juego: cazador, Hidra, Emperador, Incursión... Alguno de estos modos permite hasta 6 jugadores, para lo que se necesita un segundo mazo que pondría un total de 32 euros. Si no necesitas jugar a 5 o 6, con los 18 euros de inicio tienes margen hasta los 38 del otro, 20 euros, con los que comprarte 5 sobres de Star Realms, por ejemplo: dos mazos de mando para inicio asimétrico, un sobre de Gambito, uno de Escenarios y uno de Misiones.
    A partir de ahí, los dos presentan un juego básico deckbuilding, básico con todas sus letras, iniciación pura y dura, nada de complicaciones. Por el mismo precio muchísimo más completo Star Realms. Star Wars es una temática muy atractiva para muchos aficionados.
    Ahora toca elegir y disfrutar.

    There aren’t a lot of light, streamlined deck builders out there. One of our family’s favs is Summer Camp. I was initially drawn to this one, but that box is pretty light. I think there’s maybe only 100 cards in there…when honestly, it could have had double that. Expansions will come no doubt, but it’s a bit disappointing that more options weren’t mixed in the base box. The twist that lets you attack the enemy cards is pretty great though.

    • @meeple
      @meeple  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yeah, it’s good for several plays (and probably even more), two players who play it together a lot will soon find obvious decisions to make with this base box. I also really dig that twist with the attacking of opponent’s cards too! For me, it’s worth keeping in the collection to see where it goes from here.

    @silvermknight ปีที่แล้ว

    The house rules and expansion potential for this one is through the roof. It may not set the world on fire like Star Realms, but the concept of asynchronous purchasing and removing cards from the center row is enough to spark new gameplay scenarios.

  • @noobsandnerds6978
    @noobsandnerds6978 ปีที่แล้ว

    I wish it was a bit like Aliens Legendary where you had a core box experience and then 3 other decks/experiences based on the original star wars movies. I'm guessing FFG will expansion this for years to come, which - to be perfectly frank - I'm not keen for. But it will sell well - they have got a licence to print money with a game like this just for how accessible it is and how thematic.

    I get what you’re saying, and sure the randomness can be a pain at times… but lets remember Star Realms is so popular and can be hugely random. Sure, an experienced player will beat a newbie, but between experienced players card draw can definitely decide games completely.

    I'm very very curious what 4 players will be like. There are very few good 2v2 card games, or board games even. Lately I'm with groups of 4 and was looking into it. There's War Chest, Memoir 49 and one or two other games people recommend. Interesting little gap in the hobby.

    I love this game. It’s an 8.5 for me and will probably go up with expansion content. I’m assuming Yoda will be in a Clone Wars expansion? 🤷‍♂️
    I consider myself an enthusiast gamer but this game isn’t close to getting stale for me. I also don’t binge play it either. I break it out when I can and it has just enough approachability, uniqueness, and theme to make it a winner every time.
    Only once did we have a game where the row swung heavy empire (me) every time but I still lost bc my opponent’s deck was thin enough he kept throwing out big attacks. It’s not perfect but a 20 minute filler doesn’t have to be. I think some want this to be more than it is. Maybe bc it’s FFG or Star Wars or a straight up deck builder. Either way it’s a great game and I would recommend it to any gamer or Star Wars fan. Thanks for the review!

      It hasn’t gotten stale for me either, it’s just more of a fear that it will someday I’d they don’t release new content (which I’m sure they will) and I feel like expansions will only raise our evaluation of the game.

      Thanks for watching. I give FFG some slack because they do try a lot of things, particularly with IP involved. It's unfortunate when some of them go bust, but I look at this game as worth the price of admission, even if I don't play it any more than we already have (about 6 times for me).
