Amadeus is my favorite movie, and to hear F. Murray Abraham read this novel is amazing. He recreates Antonio Salieri so well. Here, he is careful not to fall into the same rhythms of the character he played on screen. Outstanding.
This is a brilliant masterful reading by F. Murray Abraham. Nuanced and expressive without being overly theatrical. And with fragments of Mozart's music as an added treat.
Me too : I just found this clip now myself. "Amadeus" (director's cut) has always been one of my favourite movies, but I never paid attention to the play itself.
I would pay F. Murray Abraham 1 Million to reprise his role as Salieri, all scene's shot in his POV opposite the priest's. At 83, Abraham would give the same haunting performance, without all the makeup in one of the most fascinating characters in all of cinematic history.
F. Murray Abraham is an actor of the highest caliber. On the level of an Anthony Hopkins. His Academy Award for his role as Salieri was well deserved. Why did we not see him in more big roles is not clear to me.
@@feministamagotchi6663 Sorry for the late reply. In 1986, while filming The Name of the Rose, he had just won an Oscar, so he considered himself superior to Sean Connery, who at that point hadn't yet won an oscar, and made it a point to be late on set to demonstrate his superiority. This, among other stories, gives a glimpse into his personality, and is probably one of the main reasons he was ostracized in Hollywood.
I found out a long time ago that one of the reasons we don't see certain actors on screen more is because many of them enjoy doing on-stage acting, with live audiences. I can see wanting to do that.

Amazing !!! I've seen Amadeus at least a hundred times through the years, "listening" the movie was another thing. Such a beautiful tale told by Abraham.
Fantastic, entertaining audio production of my favourite composer. Peter Schaeffer did an intriguing, though mainly fictitious job of Amadeus. In the movie, All the cast were imo, perfect in their parts. I am enjoying this audio drama immensely and will keep it as one of my favourites for listening to time and time again. 🎶👍😊❤️
Wonderful reading. This guy F. Murray Abraham can really read and act. Notice he isn't rushed, he seems to just be talking to you directly. Incredibly professional. Well done.
There are few words to describe the reading of Peter Shaffer's brilliant play, read so incredibly well by F. Murry Abraham. One must not forget the genius and such profound music that will indeed last the ages......Mozart, you have given us true beauty. Thank you for posting this, I just found it and could not switch it off. I shall definitely listen many times.
Love to listen mr.F. Murray ! His velvety voice is one in million! I don’t remember how many times I watch movie AMADEUS ! and specially because of mr.Murray fantastic acting. Good wishes ,sincerely Ana
OMG! what a great film AMADEUS, and Salieri ( F. Murray=🤗) was the great star of the film, he brought in Drama! I never forget this cinematic pearl! 💝🙏👍💕
Magnificent. No other reading equals this, safe Toni Morrison’s personal reading of her novel Beloved. This is just amazing. I wish F. Murray Abraham could have received an award for doing this in addition to his performance in the film.
Thank you so much for uploading this. I don’t think I’d have listened to it otherwise. This was incredibly enjoyable, I had no idea how different it was from the movie.
2 minutes into this recording and I already have tears in my eyes. Amadeus changed my life when I first saw it as a teenager. Thank you for this. Is there any DVD or something I can buy with this recording?
The night before Mozart's death was so eerie, like imagine him frightenedly singing a nursery rhyme in denial while Salieri confirms everything he has ever feared
F. Murray is one of the greatest actors who has been underestimated. I knew Murray years ago in N.Y. And he was brilliant then and has only achieved greater stature for me. Rarely does an actor of his caliber come along. My pleasure was to know him then and appreciate him now. Good for you Murray.
Your work, (film, TV, voice) remains an inspiration to all those who aspire to greatness! You have taught me much!!! AND your work has given all of us great inspiration and pleasure! May you bask in your contribution to our simple humanity as you prepare to meet our God!!! Craig, Lund, Sweden
I’m drunk and high; this is amazing
Did you bring enough for everyone?!😜
Trust me, it's this awesome sober too.
No. That's just F. Murray Abraham. FUCKING GENIUS.
Wicked Awesome
Rock me Amadeus!
F. Murray Abraham could read the phone book and I'd be on the edge of my seat
Because you need to sit on the phone book to reach the table?
Its raining outside, its cold, ive an electric fire on, im under a blanket on the couch and listening to this.. nice way to spend an evening
Sounds a little pretentious. No disrespect. Read it out loud yourself and get rid of the blanket.
What a beautiful setting . There's nothing so delightful as the sound of rain . This story is the cream on top .

He has a great voice.
I agree totally. This is a perfect voice for reading this. It's immaculate.
Great movie.
You should watch it.
F Murray Abraham is truly the Amadeus genius... under rated.... elegant.... truly interesting
This is a brilliant masterful reading by F. Murray Abraham. Nuanced and expressive without being overly theatrical. And with fragments of Mozart's music as an added treat.
The music isn't an added treat. It is included in the stage direction for the play.
It is vital.

oh my gosh. amadeus has been my favorite movie since i was a kid. i can’t believe i’ve just uncovered this gem.
Listening to this after watching the film is absolutely fascinating, and having Abraham read it helps tons.
So love this work- film book theatre

I am a big fan of his, as an actor. However, he has an abrasive personality, and many in the industry refuse to work with him.
