This "remake" trend is one of my favorites to ever come out of the game industry. It's been so cool to see old franchises come out of the woodwork after so long, and Spyro is no exception. More importantly, if these games continue to sell well, that gives companies incentive to create brand new entries!
I'm with you on that. I'd love a Medievil 3 or a Spyro 4. Well. A better Spyro 4 anyway. It's been a bummer to see the video-game landscape go so far away from this kind of games for so long. It's funny to think that as an adult I appreciate the childish colorful artstyle of these games even more than I did back then.
Reignated just for supplementary nostalgia for me just to feel how different the world from past to current days by projecting it on something that familiar before. But reignated still will not replace the original in my heart.

He was similar to original in The Legend of Spyro trilogy in first two games. In third he looked pretty good too. I find TLoS Spyro is best Spyro desing after Reignited Trilogy.
I absolutely LOVE this remake. This is how I remember it as a child. When I was a kid the graphics seemed just fine. This game was fun and colorful in the 90s. The remake was done beautifully. Seriously shook on how much dedication they put into this! Also, for all the people complaining about the download.. seriously?! It’s replay value is amazing,it’s kid friendly( they even changed the machine guns to slime guns), It has challenging levels, and can we talk about the nostalgia?! If your reason for not buying is downloaded content.. than that’s a pity! I definitely don’t regret purchasing! My 7 year old and I take turns playing and when his friends come over or my nieces and nephews they all love it! His friends will sit down and watch instead of playing on tablets/ Nintendo. My two year old has a plush Spyro and he pretends he’s flying around while we all take turns! I really appreciate being able to share this with my kids, this is exactly what I did as a kid with my mom! I remember being in kindergarten and watching my mom play after my half day in elementary school! We also need a remake of soul reaver! That would be really cool! Thank you toys for bob! 🖤
Totally agree - brings me back to when my kids (now 27, 24 & 19) were small (or non existent lol) and I was young. Back then (age 33) I was the one who loved the demo & insisted on getting the full game. As I recall it was quite expensive - about $70 - (about $107 in 2021 money) but it was well worth it and brought us all hours of enjoyment. I esp as a mum liked the fact that it was not violent as so many games were and so was much better for the kids. So great to see it again and unlike most old friends one has not seen in 23 years it looks better! I was lucky to get it at 60% off on Steam (till April 19th 2021) Somehow I had not been aware of it till now so am doubly grateful to the sale!

Like the whoosh of his fire breath? The patter of his feet during a charge... maybe the noise during flight challenges when you gained time... they were exaggerated, which gave them so much charm.

I like the sound of the button you head bash in the ps1 version, it sounded like bowling pins getting knocked down. Now it's not as pleasant, just a random noise.
One of the things I really like about the Reignited Trilogy is how Toys for Bob used it as an opportunity to inject some character into the dragons in term of design and dialogue. Where the original mostly just had them thanking Spyro for releasing him after giving him some starting advice regarding the mechanics. For the most part all the dragons in this game have something unique or relevant to say or at least have some funny interaction with Spyro. It really makes rescuing them more worth it to see what they'll say and do.
Andrew Colomy yes!!!!! I remember the outcry from fans when the only dragon previewed was from artisans. And I my self was like, paintbrushes why?? But it is all so fitting and it gives the dragons so much character. (Warrior dragons best by far) You can tell they put some serious time into animating them.
I showed my almost 5 year old son this video and explained to him that I used to play this game too when I was a kid but it looked different and he saw it and laughed and said it looked like Runescape.
It's great that the game has the option to use *_the original soundtrack!_* They did a great job with the new versions, but the old ones are much better in some instances.
My only issue with the game is the excessive motion blur. It honestly makes me feel nauseous after ten minutes. Hope they add an option to turn it off.
its on consoles to compensate for the 30fps - without it would be really jarring. PC will be running it at 60fps and most likely the ability to disable motion blur like Crash on Steam. I blame it on the weak CPUs no matter how many cores. faster Ghz is better...
I think the major problem the remake has is all the sound effects are much softer and lack that punch the older ones had. They do sound better obviously because of advancements in tech, but having that explosive punch the old sounds had especially in combat really makes a difference.
I noticed that in the begging of the game when Spyro says "Looks like I got some things to do." It's different in Spyro's attitude. In the original he said it out of being scared and insecure. Almost reluctant. In the newer version, he said it much more confidently. Also it doesn't make the same sound anymore when you pick up gems.
Its not a question to what ones better, its just the fact that both versions where a very different art style. Both unique in their own way. I personally will always prefer the classic design but proudly embrace what TFB have done with the games now. 😃👌👌🙏
I don't mind many of the visual changes, besides his butt/tail wiggling while flying, and the pause menu. While I think Reignited's pause menu is super vibrant and pretty, nothing can beat the original with its book pages style it had. But the sound design is meh. I understand that if it were exactly as it was from 98 it would probably be weird hearing comparatively bit-crunched audio.The sound design from the Reignited Trilogy I would change first would be the sound that Sparx makes when grabbing gems, then Zoey's zap when saving your progress, then the several glassy sounding changes. Like when scorching the planes in the flight levels for example, the original felt much more arcade-y since it was an unrealistic achievement sound effect, whereas now its more like a dry, somewhat realistic but super thin destruction sound. There's just not enough oompf there in my opinion. And then there's the music. While obviously very faithful to the original with its own modern flare, it is just super underpowered and thin. When I play the Reignited Trilogy, I set Music to Original, Volume at 10, Sound Effects to Volume 3, then Voices at Volume 5. I feel like that's the closest audio mix to the original, cause the music at default is literally the most under-focused, unimportant part about the Reignited trilogy, and that's just not right.
From a nostalgia standpoint I prefer the original, from a gamer standpoint I prefer the new one. Though it might just be me and forgetting how the game works but jumps feel harder to make now.
Ive noticed that to. My biggest pet peeve has been the sky zones timed challenges. The controls are inverted so i either over correct and go way past the target or fall straight into the water. I hope that i've just been stupid and theres a way to change this.
I've only just started playing, gotten to the first world after the beginning area so hopefully im just rusty. I do know they had a similar issue with the Crash remake where his hitbox was changed which made the game harder and im hoping this isn't the same issue because some jumps can be really hard unless you nail the perfect jump and glide.
Some of the jumps in the first one are tricky, i never played much of the original to compare though. Not having any issues in ripto's revenge however, mostly because hover makes jumps much more forgiving. For the flying levels, move in bursts. When you move up and down, once you stop giving input, Spyro takes a brief moment to sorta straighten out. It's hard to explain, but basically anticipate that and don't hold your directional input as long.
The only thing I really dislike about Reignited is the change in cutscene background music. Now it's way more whimsical and childish. I wish they just remastered them, like they did with the rest of the soundtrack.
I agree, I actually don't really mind the general background music for most levels, but, especially in the opening cut scene, I think they tried to hard to sell nasty knork with that overly cheesy music and animations. I think they pushed that a bit to far to the point where it came off kinda really stupid and obviously fake. The rest of it is good though. I do wish they didn't mute down so much of the percussion as that is a huge part of the original, but it does make the tracks less abrasive, so.. meh on that. And I do really love the new models and textures, for the first game. Some of the stuff for the second game looks weird though admittedly. But fortunately nothing is truly terrible like in skylanders.
Oh, and I don't like sparks' new model, but I have only ever really liked the original. I know they keep making these changes so it is easier to animate him to express emotions, but I wish they relied more on root motion and sound design like the original game to convey that stuff. Sparks doesn't strike me as a big eyed, emotive character.
I used to play this game just to play it. I wouldn't even make any progress I would just run around the beginning area and I loved it. I am so glad they remade this beautiful classic game and I look forward to playing it.

I've just completed the first spyro remake. About to start riptos rage. I love it. Feels like the original and hits all the nostalgia buttons but also feels fresh and new
It really does look great & I'm glad they are trying to bring the series back!! But I am a little sad that reignited kind of lost the "mystical" atmosphere that the original has. I think it has something to do with the change in color pallets/gradients & other general design choices, like making a more "realistic" skies/structures etc.. I also think the original had much better voice acting. The tone was more relaxed, natural & witty. Now it seems a little forced, similar to a corny modern kids show lmao. I'm still really excited to play when it comes out for the switch tho! Ripto's Rage was one of the first video games I ever played~~ (and loved)
I agree 100000% the remake looks too "warm" when it should have a cooler tone like the original and the smoothed out cartooney look I hate!!!!! It actually loses the feel so bad, I have no idea what the developers were thinking. Sure it looks nice and they want to leave their Toys For Bob mark on it but not this literally where it looks like a toy set. Original Spyro was trying to emulate a realistic (albeit fantasy) would but remake is trying to emulate a toy world. I think that's the simplest way to put it. Maybe I'll try listening to the original OST while playing remake to see if I can trick my brain lol.
A little late to this, but I got it for my 6yr old son remembering how fun it was. After watching him play for a couple minutes I was hooked all over again. Simple, beautiful gaming
not possible unfortunately. halo is a remaster utilizing the same engine and same coding as the original. the new graphics and lighting were like just an update put over the top of the old game for spyro, the original coding doesnt exist anymore and the game runs on unreal which is a completely different engine. toys for bob had to build spyro reignited from scratch so its impossible to be able to flick to old graphics like on halo
No, because with halo, that was a lazy coat of paint, over the literal same engine from the first game and second game, with slightly tweaked music. Spyro on the other hand, is not lazy.
But for what do you need the remaster then? The music is nearly the same, only big thing is graphic and camera. And the camera is not THAT bad in the original. You learn how to deal with it real fast.

I was getting tired of hearing the same thing from other reviewers (The solo line, "I revived this copy and its a great game" or a three minute talk about "this one thing they changed in the game is something im super happy about") Instead of describing a single thing that the reviewer likes, id like know how the game looks and sounds included into the review, especially compared to the old games since this is a remastered version, including sound, game play and visuals. I used to play Spyro 1 and 3 all the time when I was a kid (I didn't have Spyro 2). When I got the reignited trilogy, I was finally able to tell what the enemies actually were and it made me super confused. I used to think that the main green enemies from the first game were just frogs (they're orcs?!). X'D
Idk when but when I was like 7-6 or younger I remember playing the original Spyro on the PS3 and I was only born in 2010 i didn't realize how old it was until now😂it was for sure one of my favorites and I'ma purchase the Spyro reignited trilogy now 😊👍🔥
Bought this game for my birthday on the 15th, having so much love for the nostalgia attached to the Spyro to them. This is stuff we talked about at school as far as what we thought would be cool for a remake. All the fine details (and GREAT camera control) keep me smiling and happy for the rush of completing a Flight level.
I have a really deep bond with this game, when I was a child my parents didn't want to buy me/my brothers videogames, we only had a ps1 (even the ps3 was out at the time) with few games, like tomb raider or tekken, I loved them but as a child I found them too hard. One day my brother came home with a HUGE box full of old ps1 games that one of his friends gifted him and here I found spyro. I fell instantly in love, even if I was REALLY BAD, I used to play it constantly, even if my ps1 was a bit broken and was nearly impossibile to play sometimes
What I hate about the reignated version : 1.) Enter levels portal sky background (when Spyro fly to another world) is a lot better at the original. New version feel like crude painting and not feel as wide open sky where you fly like the original. As childhood seeing Spyro fly at that wide open colorful sky is relaxing. Now it's gone at the reignated. 2.) I don't like the animation of orbs in Spyro 3 at the new version. Too shiny and look fake jewel stone. The original look like real jewel. And the motion when an orb given to Spyro by an NPC is better at the original version for me. No fireworks effect and just beautifully simple motion. 3.) I don't mind they changed the appearance of NPCs like Moneybag look handsome now. I can just imagining that the original version is "primitive" version of the character designs and the new version is how the NPC looked like more detailedly. But I hate when they changed their costumes completely like for example Sheila and Zoey. 4.) I don't like several level worlds brightness and background colors. Some of them look fake even depicted more realisticly in HD. The original version indeed more polygonistic and pixelated but atleast the coloring and brightness of place look more everyday life. After all I am still grateful the reignated version released. They did good job besides all the things I mentioned.
This is probably one of the best remasters/remakes out there, along with this years SOTC remake, the Crash Bandicoot N. Sane trilogy, the Ratchet and Clank remake, Halo 2 on the MCC, the Monkey Island Special Editions and lastly the Resident Evil 1 Remake. I dare you to name any remakes/remasters better than those.
Everything is beautiful with this remaster ❤ But not the the new sound effects when collecting gems, they should've kept the 90's sound effect for that!

They did so awesome with the new remake that I literally had to look up this video to remember what the old graphics looked like they made it so perfect, they are obviously different now from them but picking this game back up again I feel like I'm 9 years old again playing my favorite game and it's almost like this is the way I remembered it. I wish I could explain better what I'm thinking and put it to words but I'm sure If anyone plays this game that played it in 1998 I'm sure knows how perfect they did on this remake.
Nick, the answer is clear! I think that the 2018 reignited trilogy version of Spyro is 100% better than how he used to look back in 1998 during the playstation (PS1) days.
It's thanks to Reignited Trilogy that I've recently gotten into Spyro, and I can't wait to hopefully play it sometime within the next year. It looks like a blast and it's adorable and beautiful. :D
I absolutely love the Spiro reignited trilogy it’s like playing it again, it’s like playing the original for the first time because back then the graphic seem to be as good as they were going to get perhaps just like now.
Looking back at it I'm actually impressed of how it looks for a PS1 game. 3D models are elaborated and animations are fluid. The eyes, the mouths, the legs, it doesn't look stiff at all and a lot of games of that time do.
I think my only complaint is that the camera is slightly more "locked down" in the remake, and doesn't move vertically with Spyro like it did in the original. It's a minor change but does make it feel different.
I like the original sound effect design myself. I wish I could remix and remaster that but, hey, how could I do that? Hmmm.... Gonna have to find a method... *_LOL_*
The art direction of the original works a lot more for me, the remaster feels too much like a big plasticy toyset that has the character design of a dreamworks/blue sky movie (not in a good way), everything has gross eyelids and the addition of teeth where there wasnt any in the original. The muppet-y simplified character models were what added to the humor and feel of the original, and that was completely lost in the remake. Its more of a re-imagining of how spyro could look, rather than sticking to the original art direction. Its over-designed to me
I've played 1 and 2 as a young child. As I play through the remake, I remember some of the dialogue lines, and just become proud of myself like, that was kinda difficult, five year old me did that? The original had amazing graphics for its time, but 20 years of technological advancement blows it out of the water.
This is what you call a REMASTER. It's masterfully achieved, I'm way into adulthood now, but couldn't help to purchase, and had a blast with it. Looks georgeous, and of course, Spyro is the cutest thing. I'm hopeful to see "Dawn of the Dragon" remastered this way!

New graphics look better but the original still looks amazing for 1998 New control scheme is superior Sound design better But the original ost is superior imo but that might be because of the dynamic sound made the ignited ost fade out depending on the situation so it sounded really weird and awkward.
weirdly enough, biggest difference in animation I love is that when he flys he doesnt put his arms forward like superman anymore, and now they hang underneath him as his wings do the work. idk y but just makes more sense to me

The fact these were exaggerated in the original game gave them a charm, and the louder effects when you gained time in a flight level.

People were likely complaining how the game wasn't actually on the disc. So you NEEDED a online connection to use it.

I think the major problem the remake has is all the sound effects are much softer and lack that punch the older ones had. They do sound better obviously because of advancements in tech, but having that explosive punch the old sounds had especially in combat really makes a difference.
I noticed that in the begging of the game when Spyro says "Looks like I got some things to do." It's different in Spyro's attitude. In the original he said it out of being scared and insecure. Almost reluctant. In the newer version, he said it much more confidently.
Also it doesn't make the same sound anymore when you pick up gems.

Its not a question to what ones better, its just the fact that both versions where a very different art style. Both unique in their own way. I personally will always prefer the classic design but proudly embrace what TFB have done with the games now. 😃👌👌🙏

I don't mind many of the visual changes, besides his butt/tail wiggling while flying, and the pause menu. While I think Reignited's pause menu is super vibrant and pretty, nothing can beat the original with its book pages style it had.
But the sound design is meh. I understand that if it were exactly as it was from 98 it would probably be weird hearing comparatively bit-crunched audio.The sound design from the Reignited Trilogy I would change first would be the sound that Sparx makes when grabbing gems, then Zoey's zap when saving your progress, then the several glassy sounding changes. Like when scorching the planes in the flight levels for example, the original felt much more arcade-y since it was an unrealistic achievement sound effect, whereas now its more like a dry, somewhat realistic but super thin destruction sound. There's just not enough oompf there in my opinion.
And then there's the music. While obviously very faithful to the original with its own modern flare, it is just super underpowered and thin. When I play the Reignited Trilogy, I set Music to Original, Volume at 10, Sound Effects to Volume 3, then Voices at Volume 5. I feel like that's the closest audio mix to the original, cause the music at default is literally the most under-focused, unimportant part about the Reignited trilogy, and that's just not right.

From a nostalgia standpoint I prefer the original, from a gamer standpoint I prefer the new one. Though it might just be me and forgetting how the game works but jumps feel harder to make now.
Ive noticed that to. My biggest pet peeve has been the sky zones timed challenges. The controls are inverted so i either over correct and go way past the target or fall straight into the water. I hope that i've just been stupid and theres a way to change this.
I've only just started playing, gotten to the first world after the beginning area so hopefully im just rusty. I do know they had a similar issue with the Crash remake where his hitbox was changed which made the game harder and im hoping this isn't the same issue because some jumps can be really hard unless you nail the perfect jump and glide.
Some of the jumps in the first one are tricky, i never played much of the original to compare though. Not having any issues in ripto's revenge however, mostly because hover makes jumps much more forgiving.
For the flying levels, move in bursts. When you move up and down, once you stop giving input, Spyro takes a brief moment to sorta straighten out. It's hard to explain, but basically anticipate that and don't hold your directional input as long.

The only thing I really dislike about Reignited is the change in cutscene background music. Now it's way more whimsical and childish. I wish they just remastered them, like they did with the rest of the soundtrack.

I agree, I actually don't really mind the general background music for most levels, but, especially in the opening cut scene, I think they tried to hard to sell nasty knork with that overly cheesy music and animations. I think they pushed that a bit to far to the point where it came off kinda really stupid and obviously fake. The rest of it is good though. I do wish they didn't mute down so much of the percussion as that is a huge part of the original, but it does make the tracks less abrasive, so.. meh on that. And I do really love the new models and textures, for the first game. Some of the stuff for the second game looks weird though admittedly. But fortunately nothing is truly terrible like in skylanders.
Oh, and I don't like sparks' new model, but I have only ever really liked the original. I know they keep making these changes so it is easier to animate him to express emotions, but I wish they relied more on root motion and sound design like the original game to convey that stuff. Sparks doesn't strike me as a big eyed, emotive character.
Like, his eyes really shouldn't take up more than 30% of his head, tops imo

I used to play this game just to play it. I wouldn't even make any progress I would just run around the beginning area and I loved it. I am so glad they remade this beautiful classic game and I look forward to playing it.

Every single time Sparx comes to wave at the player in game my heart is ridiculously happy.
It really does look great & I'm glad they are trying to bring the series back!! But I am a little sad that reignited kind of lost the "mystical" atmosphere that the original has. I think it has something to do with the change in color pallets/gradients & other general design choices, like making a more "realistic" skies/structures etc.. I also think the original had much better voice acting. The tone was more relaxed, natural & witty. Now it seems a little forced, similar to a corny modern kids show lmao. I'm still really excited to play when it comes out for the switch tho! Ripto's Rage was one of the first video games I ever played~~ (and loved)
I agree 100000% the remake looks too "warm" when it should have a cooler tone like the original and the smoothed out cartooney look I hate!!!!! It actually loses the feel so bad, I have no idea what the developers were thinking. Sure it looks nice and they want to leave their Toys For Bob mark on it but not this literally where it looks like a toy set. Original Spyro was trying to emulate a realistic (albeit fantasy) would but remake is trying to emulate a toy world. I think that's the simplest way to put it. Maybe I'll try listening to the original OST while playing remake to see if I can trick my brain lol.

not possible unfortunately. halo is a remaster utilizing the same engine and same coding as the original. the new graphics and lighting were like just an update put over the top of the old game
for spyro, the original coding doesnt exist anymore and the game runs on unreal which is a completely different engine. toys for bob had to build spyro reignited from scratch so its impossible to be able to flick to old graphics like on halo
No, because with halo, that was a lazy coat of paint, over the literal same engine from the first game and second game, with slightly tweaked music.
Spyro on the other hand, is not lazy.
But for what do you need the remaster then? The music is nearly the same, only big thing is graphic and camera. And the camera is not THAT bad in the original. You learn how to deal with it real fast.

I used to play Spyro 1 and 3 all the time when I was a kid (I didn't have Spyro 2). When I got the reignited trilogy, I was finally able to tell what the enemies actually were and it made me super confused. I used to think that the main green enemies from the first game were just frogs (they're orcs?!). X'D

The OG Spyro trilogy is a complete masterpiece IMO only thing I would change is maybe a couple harder dlc levels like how Crash 1 and 3 added.
Idk when but when I was like 7-6 or younger I remember playing the original Spyro on the PS3 and I was only born in 2010 i didn't realize how old it was until now😂it was for sure one of my favorites and I'ma purchase the Spyro reignited trilogy now 😊👍🔥

Bought this game for my birthday on the 15th, having so much love for the nostalgia attached to the Spyro to them. This is stuff we talked about at school as far as what we thought would be cool for a remake. All the fine details (and GREAT camera control) keep me smiling and happy for the rush of completing a Flight level.
But the tail wiggling was cute. How dare they remove it. 😥

I have a really deep bond with this game, when I was a child my parents didn't want to buy me/my brothers videogames, we only had a ps1 (even the ps3 was out at the time) with few games, like tomb raider or tekken, I loved them but as a child I found them too hard. One day my brother came home with a HUGE box full of old ps1 games that one of his friends gifted him and here I found spyro. I fell instantly in love, even if I was REALLY BAD, I used to play it constantly, even if my ps1 was a bit broken and was nearly impossibile to play sometimes

I cried when I first loaded up Artisans. This game was my childhood and also reminds me of my late dad and uncle who loved the trilogy.
What I hate about the reignated version :
1.) Enter levels portal sky background (when Spyro fly to another world) is a lot better at the original. New version feel like crude painting and not feel as wide open sky where you fly like the original. As childhood seeing Spyro fly at that wide open colorful sky is relaxing. Now it's gone at the reignated.
2.) I don't like the animation of orbs in Spyro 3 at the new version. Too shiny and look fake jewel stone. The original look like real jewel. And the motion when an orb given to Spyro by an NPC is better at the original version for me. No fireworks effect and just beautifully simple motion.
3.) I don't mind they changed the appearance of NPCs like Moneybag look handsome now. I can just imagining that the original version is "primitive" version of the character designs and the new version is how the NPC looked like more detailedly. But I hate when they changed their costumes completely like for example Sheila and Zoey.
4.) I don't like several level worlds brightness and background colors. Some of them look fake even depicted more realisticly in HD. The original version indeed more polygonistic and pixelated but atleast the coloring and brightness of place look more everyday life.
After all I am still grateful the reignated version released. They did good job besides all the things I mentioned.
This is probably one of the best remasters/remakes out there, along with this years SOTC remake, the Crash Bandicoot N. Sane trilogy, the Ratchet and Clank remake, Halo 2 on the MCC, the Monkey Island Special Editions and lastly the Resident Evil 1 Remake. I dare you to name any remakes/remasters better than those.

I like the redesigns of the dragons including Spyro and I like the animation it's like a Pixar movie or Disney movie.

I absolutely love it!! They did so awesome with the new remake that I literally had to look up this video to remember what the old graphics looked like they made it so perfect, they are obviously different now from them but picking this game back up again I feel like I'm 9 years old again playing my favorite game and it's almost like this is the way I remembered it. I wish I could explain better what I'm thinking and put it to words but I'm sure If anyone plays this game that played it in 1998 I'm sure knows how perfect they did on this remake.

Nick, the answer is clear! I think that the 2018 reignited trilogy version of Spyro is 100% better than how he used to look back in 1998 during the playstation (PS1) days.
From a technical standpoint Reignited is better, but for overall feel the original is better. The new one is just not the same.
It really is an amazing remake. I'm super happy with everything they've done. And this game means a lot I used to play it as a kid with my sister.
It's thanks to Reignited Trilogy that I've recently gotten into Spyro, and I can't wait to hopefully play it sometime within the next year. It looks like a blast and it's adorable and beautiful. :D

Looking back at it I'm actually impressed of how it looks for a PS1 game. 3D models are elaborated and animations are fluid.
The eyes, the mouths, the legs, it doesn't look stiff at all and a lot of games of that time do.
I think my only complaint is that the camera is slightly more "locked down" in the remake, and doesn't move vertically with Spyro like it did in the original. It's a minor change but does make it feel different.
I like the original sound effect design myself. I wish I could remix and remaster that but, hey, how could I do that? Hmmm.... Gonna have to find a method... *_LOL_*
The art direction of the original works a lot more for me, the remaster feels too much like a big plasticy toyset that has the character design of a dreamworks/blue sky movie (not in a good way), everything has gross eyelids and the addition of teeth where there wasnt any in the original. The muppet-y simplified character models were what added to the humor and feel of the original, and that was completely lost in the remake. Its more of a re-imagining of how spyro could look, rather than sticking to the original art direction. Its over-designed to me
I've played 1 and 2 as a young child. As I play through the remake, I remember some of the dialogue lines, and just become proud of myself like, that was kinda difficult, five year old me did that? The original had amazing graphics for its time, but 20 years of technological advancement blows it out of the water.
This is what you call a REMASTER. It's masterfully achieved, I'm way into adulthood now, but couldn't help to purchase, and had a blast with it. Looks georgeous, and of course, Spyro is the cutest thing. I'm hopeful to see "Dawn of the Dragon" remastered this way!
I don't know it if was a feature in 2 or 3 but i kinda miss seeing all the gems fly across the screen when going to others world outside of that no complaints. still on spyro 1 just got it the day

weirdly enough, biggest difference in animation I love is that when he flys he doesnt put his arms forward like superman anymore, and now they hang underneath him as his wings do the work. idk y but just makes more sense to me
As beautiful as the new one is, I can't help but miss some of the original sound effects, that now seem to be muted... e.g the whoosh of his fire breath, or the patter of his feet during a charge. The fact these were exaggerated in the original game gave them a charm, and the louder effects when you gained time in a flight level.
