My name is Matthew and I live in a van. I lost my job due to "cut backs" from the pandemic of 2020 and decided to seriously restructure my life. I am also a single dad who needed to find a solution that would allow me to remain in my daughter's life and plan for her future. After tons of research into #vanlife, I knew it was for me.
From March 2021 until October 2021 I spent my days building out my Chevrolet Express 2500, which came to be known as "Lucky" and as of October 18, 2021 I have been living in Lucky full time.
The build was done with almost no experience on my end and I used the one incredible tool I had at my disposal - the internet - to learn what I needed to build Lucky into a very comfortable tiny home.
I have always had a bit of a passion for being in front of the camera and really enjoy capturing the world around us. This really played into how I was feeling after almost a year of working from home when I "commuted" from the bedroom to the couch. I was starting to feel extremely unhealthy, unmotivated and despondent. I HATED that, and that's not a word I like to throw around. This new lifestyle gives me opportunities I just didn't have before and I am so excited to be able to share it all with you.
I truly believe we all have the capabilities to turn our lives around, should we choose to do so - and if I can inspire you to shoot for something better then I have done a decent job and that will keep me going.
There is more to life than the consume, consume, spend, spend lifestyle I feel we have all been conditioned to follow and I just want to do the best I can for myself first and foremost. Our time is limited and I do not want to waste another second on a lifestyle that doesn't bring me joy!

I love that rest stop...it definitely is a iconic VanlifePLUS location! You film it a little different every time but it's still the birth place of your full-time vanlife. Always puts a smile on my face and some wind in my sails 🥰 ALSO, liking the pirate-themed closing dity!
YES the stiff back maybe from the surgery ...I think?🤔🤨. My brother had the same back procedure done and every day he has to take a walk first thing in the morning ...it's been several years since his surgery and the back still gets stiff sometimes🙏. I'm certain recovery is different with each individual ...but it looks like you've come a long way and doing GREAT since that extreme crippling back pain👍🤗💖😇.

My son and I have Jeep JK's but I just purchased a 2021 Chevy Express 2500 that I'm in the process of converting. It was about 41 years ago that I did this very thing to my 1st van - now it's time to get back into it! Stay safe Matt - maybe someday I'll see you out on the road!

I love that rest site. Parked in the exact spot. Had some fun chats there with other road warriors. The humming of the big trucks make the place feel safe somehow.

I got rid of my rooftop cargo because I realized I stopped using the stuff in it cause of the hassle of climbing up etc but I really rethought that to maybe just use it for dirty laundry. It is the bane of van existence… dirty laundry.

Your back pain probably isn’t your mattress, driving can wreak havoc on your back , good luck with that . Beautiful stop along the way with the waterfall!
Short brief walks 2/3 times a day helps. I’m an HEO and most of us suffer with stiffness during the work day and especially in the morning. It’s important to keep moving no matter our circumstances 🏃♂🚴🏼♂🏊🏼♂⛹🏼♂⛷🚣🏻♂🏋🏼♀🏸thanks for sharing your van life, the drone video was bonus, safe travels 🚐
