Mine had a larger contact area since it only came up till the MicroSIM perforation. Cut through some metal and it worked nicely. A slightly tight fit due to thickness but works nonetheless. Kudos.
Just a feedback: it works with the oldest SIM as well (on which the metal part is bigger than the whole nano sim). So no matter if you have to cut from the metal part. It matters though, which side you cut, so be careful!

Finally my 3 year carpentry education came to good use :D didn't have any scissors so i had to use a utility knife. Oh and thx for the video, it helped alot.
I just did 3 of them in a row. 100% success. If you use an online template, print it to scale, and use a piece of folded tape to stick the backside of the SIM to the template to draw the lines, you can't go wrong.

If you muck it up, you either 1) used dull scissors and twisted the metal too far or 2) you need to go back to kindergarten since you are clearly incapable of cutting straight lines. The only thing that I did differently was to use some 200 grit sand paper to round off the corners. I did not need to adjust the thickness at all.
What don't understand is why has Apple not yet come up with a universal SIM module for the iPhone. Just like they have on an iPad. This process of cutting is so risky and inefficient.

Why would you do this? Just get a free sim replacement from your phone provider. They transfer over you mobile number and can transfer your contacts if needed.
I got a new phone on Saturday. S7 Edge. Have a micro SIM in my old HTC. Can't use my new phone and can't get in to the shop as I am at work all week. This is a much easier option.
I had the same issue. I went from an S3 to the iphone 5. I just decided to email myself the exported version of the contact info. It should be a .vcf file. Send it to yourself, then download the file on your iPhone, and your problem should be fixed
Never, ever save anything to a SIM card.. period. Phone gets stolen - your stuffed. Some people don't like trusting cloud syncing of contacts, etc, but it's slightly less risky than a thief going through your SIM card details.
nothing to do now bro, it happens when you cut your Micro-SIM, your contacts are gone forever, can not be retrieved. you should have moved your contacts on some another device before you cut.

Nope, scratch that, it worked fine. It is slightly too small for the tray, and it looks butchered as fuck, but it works absolutely fine. I guess if I have to do this again I won't use my heavy duty Citadel plastic cutters for this.
Here are some consequences of cutting down a SIM card down to a NanoSIM card, which they were experiencing and were gone after the cut SIM was replaced with a new proper NanoSIM: Frequent coverage loss. Reduced coverage (signal strength). No 4G while they were in an area covered with 4G. After the SIM swap, 4G magically appeared:) Call drops. Slow internet due to instable connection. Battery drain due to frequent network searches.

Do I need to use sandpaper to make it thinner? I heard that micro is a bit thicker than nano.

I have AT&T and they charge $10.50 for a new sim card.
Not all providers give you a free sim, mine charges 15$ for a new sim.
Prepaid sim card issuer may not a telecom provider with sim replacement. Otherwise, I have to continue using my old phones.

Have you tried going into settings, mail/contacts/calanders then scroll to the bottom and hit "import from sim"?
