I bought a 2022 Honda Ridgeline Black Edition I love the spacious cab and the utility of the vehicle. It’s smooth and quiet. It’s a great daily driver when navigating in today’s parking lots. I see myself keeping the Ridgeline for many many years.
@@cs1992I just bought a 2023 RTL-E last week. I immediately drove 400 miles straight and got 28.6 mpg (if the computer is accurate). I was in eco mode with the adaptive cruise on, tracking semi trailers between North Carolina and Florida on flat I-95. So that’s probably the most it will ever get.
Ridgeline has a bigger, wider bed. Bigger interior. Better ride. The Tacoma looks cool with the big tires, but is really in need of a complete redesign.
I have a Ridgeline and it’s great. I wouldn’t go off Roading with either truck. anybody that takes a 50,000+ unit off road where I go with my ATV you’re gonna need a paint job after you come back. and by the way, the ATV will out perform both trucks, and if I get stuck ATV weighs 1000 pounds the truck weighs 5000 pounds good luck getting that out.
This is everything I need to know. I have a Tacoma now, which is great, but need a new truck soon. I don't drive off road at all. Have a little snow in the winter. The Honda with its AWD will work fine. When I buy, I'm going ridgeline after watching this video. Thank you for your time and fair comparison.
If you can, wait for the next generation, which hopefully comes out in a year or two. It should come with the proven honda 10 speed transmission but with a new engine. The most current model that had a face-lift along with the 9speed tranny is more reliable than the older 2017-19 that has the 6 speed. Also, the infotainment is trash/ancient. I've seen better infotainment from 10yrs ago and I'm not even into that stuff. I had a Tacoma and I choose the Ridgeline anyday.
“ItS nOt a ReAl TrUcK” - 99% of truck owners with V8 engines and 4inch lift kits who have never been off-road, and whose beds are always empty and don’t even own a trailer 💀
Not sure why reviewers compare these 2 vehicles. One is a city truck and one is more of an off roader. I think if I was in the mountains or want to look cool Tacoma. If I want to cruise around the city with small jobs or be comfortable Ridgeline. I think they are both great it just depends what you are looking for.
I'd say it's fair to compare them because most people who buy trucks don't actually use them for their intended purpose. Ridgeline would be perfect for the vast majority of truck drivers.
Exactly, "better" is relative. I bought a 2023 Ridgeline, I think it's a better fit for me. I'm not expecting the Ridgeline to be better at off-roading.
Ridgeline seems better in every way except if you want to do heavy off roading as the aftermarket support and capabilities will be greater on Tacoma. But for a daily driver, the Ridgeline wins in literally every department.
For nearly everything an average truck does, the Ridgeline is not only better, it’s far superior. For off road, the Tacoma is way better. RL has no low range and is basically a car. But again, for most people, the RL will make them happier. RL: lockable waterproof trunk, bed speakers, way better ride and handling, way better interior space, better MPG, way better in inclement weather (AWD vs on demand part time 4wd in the Taco).
What “truck” thing can taco do, that ridgeline can’t? Taco is great but it’s really just resale value and reputation at this point. Most people doing “truck” things could just get a 1500 RAM other than resale.
Personally I like the feel of a truck I like the handling of the truck I put a tonneau cover on mine so my whole bed is waterproof + tweeker resistant lol. I'm personally not into having my truck handle like a car. & the reason I bought the Tacoma over any other 🛻💨 is because it's the truck that feels the most old-skool like a truck, but for most of the pussies nowadays yeah I would say the Ridgeline would make them happy 😁
I HAD a '21 Tacoma sr5. I traded it in for a '23 black edition ridgeline. While not apples to apples I am so much happier with the ridge line for many (if not all) the reasons mentioned in this video. The one thing that sucks in both of them is the sound system.
I presently drive a 2021 Ram "Classic" 4X4 quadcab with the 3.6L and I'm satisfied but if I would have to pick one of those two to replace the Ram, it would be the Ridgeline without hesitation. 😎 I must say that for "look" wise, I prefer the Tacoma.
Ridgeline for that w. Not sure why alot of people hate the unibody, pretty sure if given the chance between a chevy avalanche or cadillac escalade ext they will still say it ain't a truck. Manufacturer put it out as a truck the title from the dmv says its a truck then I'm pretty sure it's a truck.
I went out one Saturday morning to find and buy a nice low mileage Tacoma. After test driving a fine Taco at the dealer, I parked next to a Ridgeline, which I really hadn't considered before. I said to the sales lady, "what the hell, let me drive this one." An hour later I took the Ridgeline home. Except for the rock crawling, which I never do, there's no real comparison. The Ridgeline is faster, handles way better, rides way better and has tons more cab room. Oh, and I regularly get 28 mpg on the highway too. Throw in the 500 lbs. of extra payload and the "trunk" and you'll never look back. And your backseat passengers will thank you.
@Kevin They make SUVs unibody as well as body on frame. Why not a truck that shares that variation? A Ridgeline has a legitimate truck bed and can haul and tow. I love my '98 Tacoma but I have no problem calling a Ridgeline a truck.
I do not need an off road truck to get me to Home Depot or any other supply house. Ridgeline everyday. I use my truck for real everyday work projects. Not play.
Drove both a few times, frontier is too narrow inside, tight, box is small and narrow. RL much more spacious, comfortable and box is wider and longer. Ridgeline all the way.
Couldn't see myself taking a long ride in a Tacoma, the seats and the headrest are horrible. I thought the Tacoma had more power, then I pushed the "S" Sports Drive and it really dwarfed the Tacoma. Love my Ridgeline... So far I for about 165 miles on it.
Objevtively speaking, the Ridgeline is the perfect vehicle for 99% of people. Once they update that interior tech to the current generation it'll be a wrap. If you need to tow more, you move up a class size. Nothing in it's class is a better buy. If you want an off roader, realistically the Honda is probably enough for most people but the Taco is the only other truck worth buying in the class.
I just got a 23 Ridgeline and really wanted a Tacoma until I drove both. Toyota is driving up their Tacoma's with BS like the XP Predator package, which is $3,200 for fluff. RTL comes well equipped and doesn't have a ton of packages or options. Drives much better daily than the Tacoma and it was a great lease deal where the RTL-E had a payment much lower than an SR Tacoma.
Don't forget the extra "market adjustments" or worthless "protective film" packages that the dealers use to jack the OTD prices by 10 to 20%. I have seen 4 Toyota dealers near me within driving distance doing this and NO Honda dealers doing it. I have bought 5 new and 1 used Toyotas over the years but their take it or leave it attitude will keep me off their lots from now on. I don't need to rock crawl and the Ridge looks pretty good to me especially considering how uncomfortable the Tacoma is for my body. I have a 2014 F150 that has been good to me, so I am used to a fair amount of room. The Taco feels way too small, but the Ridge seems very comfortable by comparison. That plus the fact that AWD is way better than part time 4WD on wet/ slippery roads (can't really shift into 4HI very quickly until you are sliding already) because it is on all the time.
Things I want Honda to add or change to the ridge line . Remove button gear system or add an option for a normal gear stick not a manual. Make the ridge line look tougher/ make it look like it can take a beating and more like a pickup truck instead of a suv, but still have that comfort . Add an option for 4h 4l 2 wheel drive for certain model. Maybe add a 2 door cab with a longer bed . And a hybrid model
So the Ridgeline holds more, hauls more, is more comfortable/roomy, rides better on the road. These two seem priced about the same. So the Ridgeline seems the better truck. The Tacoma might be a better toy. I do like the aesthetics of the dash and controls better in the Toyota. The Ridgeline was based on the Pilot, which just got a major overhaul. I wonder when that reaches the Ridgeline?
Great job again Ben. In 2021 I bought the Tacoma TRD Pro for someone 6’1” around 250 it was too small and cramped inside. Your legs go out in front of you and your lower back screams in agony in the uncomfortable riding position and poor seat support. My Taco had only a couple hundred miles on it when I stepped up to the Ridgeline. Ridgeline rides and drives like an SUV and the motor has plenty of power while the Taco motor is so loud and feels likes its working very hard. Fuel economy also isn’t even close. My Taco averaged 17 at best while around town my Ridgeline is getting just under 23mpg (22.8). If someone is a serious off-roader and I’d say younger and more tolerant than the Taco with all its aftermarket accessories is great. If you’re like me and over age 65 the Ridgeline is hard to beat. Just my 2 cents having owned both. I have seen some comments here as well with some inaccurate stats regarding bed payload. As I recall the Taco bed capped out around 900lbs while the Ridgeline bed can haul over 1500lbs. The Ridgeline is plenty of truck for most people.
Unless u r going to be an off roader the Ridgeline Kills it! AWD is on and no buttons. For you 4wd people like I used to be. Beware, there HAS to be slippage before engaging AND u can't go over 55 or less. Of course if u get rid of you 40k vehicles every 4-5 years just tear that transfer case apart and dump it on someone else. Otherwise I love the AWD. U didn't mention the bed in the Ridgeline can fit a 4x4 sheet flat!!
Traded my Silverado z71 for a Ridgeline and can’t be happier. Silverado rode like crap and the seats were hard as a rock. Hated driving distance in the Silverado. Could barely walk. Ridgeline is just enough “truck” that 80% of drivers will ever need. And that trunk in the bed is nice !
Lol - All the triggered snowflake "truck" girls who wrap their identities around the vehicle they drive! Don't ever change ladies, you make these videos worth it!
Test drove a Tacoma limited today and it was eh, it was used with 20,000 miles and they wanted 41k and wouldn’t budge. Easy to say I’m going to test drive a ridgeline soon
Just switched from a 2021 tacoma to a 2023 ridgeline. The ridgeline is all around better imo. Taco looks cool from the outside but thats about it. Also if you have kids getting car seats in the back of the tacoma double cab is nearly impossible. The extra room in the ridgeline is much appreciated.
The ridgeline is better in every way outside of going off-road. But I think we all have to be honest and say the RL is Ugly AF, and looks like a minivan with the back half cut off. 😂
Have owned a Ridgeline since 2020. Prior trucks; Ford F-150, Chevy Silverado, GMC Sierra of course all full sized trucks. Will replace the 2020 Ridgeline with a Ridgeline! Never going back!
@ryanb3908 The Tacoma isn't a real truck, it can't pull anything and it's payload is 900lbs VS the Ridgelines 1,500. I have a 23 Toco and it's a useless POS.
I had a Tacoma and now I have a Ridgeline. The Ridgeline is underrated but sometimes I miss the Taco. Both were great, it just depends what you need. I will probably end up with a new Taco after all the bugs are worked out of the next gen.
Test drove both and got the Honda. Tacoma seat too short, steering wheel doesn’t telescope much, cabin felt too cramped. Couldn’t be happier with Ridgeline… quietest vehicle ever owned, AWD works well, it’s big enough to fit 4 adults comfortably. Only downside is its funky look and low ground clearance.
Tacoma. Honda hasn't been able to couple a decent automatic transmission to a V6 for like... 20 years. The Honda is better in any other way, except where it really matters. Even though the Ridgeline has a tow-rating of 5k, I would never trust it to tow anything above 3.5k for long trips, and if your towing something, more often than not, it's on a long trip. I have a '19 Ridgeline, it's a love-hate relationship. It has the well-known transmission 'shudder' issue. It has less than 40k miles. The tailgate has been a maintenance hassle too... flimsy plastic actuators break/slip.
with the mat plus ridgeline. i was kinda on the side of honda ,like why the mat too but then kinda thought well i would rather have it and not need it ,rather than need it but not have it.
I really wish Honda would make this truck with a 6 ft bed and only an extra cab, not the full rear seat. I’ve owned Rangers for years and the new supercab Rangers are trash. Honda should step up into that space……
My 2018 Honda Ridgeline had 5 safety recalls, made noises and was in the shop for 10 days and honda couldn't find the source and said just keep driving it it may wear down (which 5,000 miles it did) - also, the 2017-2019 ridgelines have a defect with the engines where fuel injectors are pushed in to far and clog up. Many blogs talk about this and around 50k miles i had to get mine fully replaced because check-engine emission light came on. Lots of folks have this issue. Also the 2017-2019 power train (transmission) is used on the ridgleine/odessy and pilot all have many issues with failing between 50k-70k and it costs about 5k repair. I got rid of my 2018 honda ridgeline this January of 2023 and traded it in for a Mazda. I don't miss it at all, A few weeks after dumping it i got an email of yet another recall regarding tailgate camera. So happy don't have to bring that dang thing back into the shop to waste hours for another warrenty repair. Anyway, Honda Civics and the Honda CRV have different teams and they are reliable, for me the Honda Ridgeline had the most recalls then any vehicle i ever owned and I had zero confidence it was going to last. When I drove it all i kept thing was "what's the next thing to go wrong". I am so happy i got rid of it, and not ever buying another Honda again, it was a painful experience. My first 100 miles on the truck it made all types of noises, honda couldn't figure out the source, it was in the shop 4x and one time they kept it for 10 days. I tried to file lemon law but honda wouldn't budge, i offered to pay for taxes fees and just give me another and call it a day and they wouldn't do it. Lemon law does jack crap if you end up with one. I hated this truck and would never recommend it nor Honda as they don't stand behind their product.
Be honest with yourself--How often are you really going hardcore off-roading?? It's not like the Ridgeline can't go off-road, its very capable. A lot of people put the Ridgeline to the test and it's done well.
That bed mat is a very good option for the Tacoma it stops things from sliding around !!!! They should be standard that bed is slick when wet or dry with things in the back of it!!!!! do you research before you do your videos learn something!!!!
Tacoma is a body on frame truck and Ridgeline is a car with an open trunk. Pick what's best for your purpose. Both have great resale values, I choose the Tacoma.
Hey Ben! Love your content, and I was wondering what you think about a GMC 2500hd AT4 vs. a Ram 2500 rebel. Also I’ll definitely be waiting for the 2024 refresh for the GMC. Thanks Ben! Keep on keeping on!
I have a 23 Tacoma TRD, and so far, I honestly hate it. It's incredibly uncomfortable, noisy engine and exhaust, underpowered, and the quality just isn't there. I'll be trading it in on a Ridgeline soon. To me the Tacoma is for kids that like off reading all the time, it's not a daily driver, it's for off-road use only, IMHO.
Proving how many are sheep is what it is,if ego takes a back seat to common sense the ridgeline wins every time. If needing to look cool in a truck is your main concern, then let the world know you have a small penis and buy a tacoma or a full size truck that you will never take off road and drives like shit on the road.
@@MrJaredmiller79 You're probably the first person in history to call a Ridgeline a man's truck. It's unibody for starters which means it's actually not a truck at all. It might identify as a truck but that don't make it so.
I'm a 1st Generation Ridgeline person. You can modify a Tacoma more. Tacoma has been around longer. It basically cheaper. The Tacoma come in multiple trims. Honda never planned to sell that many Ridgelines. Many people don't look at other numbers
@@ryanb3908it is a truck. You can even look in the dictionary. No valid definition of a pickup truck requires a body on frame. 😽 Interestingly, the very first truck was based on a car…
So cheesy I know, but the push button shifter is the dealbreaker for me on the Ridgeline. Why they are putting push button trans on utility vehicles is beyond me, it's far more suited for a luxary vehicle.
Speaks way too fast for this review. Not enough time spent highlighting some of the features on either vehicle. Sometimes, speaking too fast to even understand. Especially in the beginning.
I got to test drive a 2022 RL RTE and a 2022 Taco TRD Sport after selling my 2005 Taco SR5 4x4. I tried to love the RL but I couldn’t. Taco is still my preference.

I love everything about the Ridgeline except for the “not truck” enough look 😅
The ridgeline is better in every way outside of going off-road. But I think we all have to be honest and say the RL is Ugly AF, and looks like a minivan with the back half cut off. 😂
Tacomas can't keep up anymore. Other than its name, they're being outperformed. Ridgeline is the better buy.
Have owned a Ridgeline since 2020. Prior trucks; Ford F-150, Chevy Silverado, GMC Sierra of course all full sized trucks. Will replace the 2020 Ridgeline with a Ridgeline! Never going back!
Really considering the ridgeline seems like a better fit if you dont need the hard core towing or really off road and better for families.
Is there another name for the RL HPD? I can’t find it at any dealerships in a 100 mile radius
Does Tacoma offer memory seats as RL ?
The Ridgeline just needs an updated exterior and interior and it'll be 🔥
Ridgeline is a good car for woman and the elderly but most men want a real truck.
I had a 2017 Black Edition. I traded it in for a 2022 RTL-E last August.
What about rear seat foldable..??
Doesn’t matter what people think.
Both pay taxes as trucks in the DMV. 😂
Ridgeline is better in my opinon, bcuz if u buy new from A dealership, they give u a free trailer with budlight 😊
Ridgeline
with the mat plus ridgeline. i was kinda on the side of honda ,like why the mat too but then kinda thought well i would rather have it and not need it ,rather than need it but not have it.
Ridgeline all the way but Tacoma is built for 1 million miles!
anyone here had issue on 2023 ridgeline? also anyone had issus due to odd location of oil filter?
Apples to oranges comparison. Like comparing a C10 to an El Camino or an F150 to a Ranchero.
So I have to say this is not a fair comparison at all The Toyota should just be the standard SR5
Comfort wise is for ridgeline but money wise go for tacoma
Does the Ridgeline offer a stick? Next video please
I had a 17 with similar issues. Got rid of it and now with trd off road.
I feel like this is the direction my experience is going to go with my '19 RL; there are just too many wonky, impractical issues with it.
The prices for the smallest trucks are killing me here. I can’t believe I got a full size v8 for 26k.
Be honest with yourself--How often are you really going hardcore off-roading?? It's not like the Ridgeline can't go off-road, its very capable. A lot of people put the Ridgeline to the test and it's done well.
It's just all about the ridge's day to day advantages vs the taco's greater capabilities. The only x-factor is the taco frankly looks better.
The Ridgeline looks better....
@@hoseman10 I own a ridge and love it so I don't need convincing.
@@JustinTorrento I will buy my ridge when the 2024's arrive.
That bed mat is a very good option for the Tacoma it stops things from sliding around !!!! They should be standard that bed is slick when wet or dry with things in the back of it!!!!! do you research before you do your videos learn something!!!!
Great points.
I pick both of them if I had the money and the frontier, would test of all them for one year see what my thoughts are haha 😂😆😋😀
If you're going to be off-roading every day then get the Tacoma and if you're going to be a city folk then get the Ridgeline 😂
HPD Edition = stickers
Ridgeline needs to take the Ford Maverick approach and release a Hybrid package as well as a Tremor off road option

Tacoma is a body on frame truck and Ridgeline is a car with an open trunk. Pick what's best for your purpose. Both have great resale values, I choose the Tacoma.
So in conclusion, I would get my wife the Honda and I would get me the Taco.
Let guess, she can't fit in a tacoma.
@@squidusn71 lol lol 😂😂😂
We pick the taco , better looking , the Honda is like a car not a truck
Comparing a car and a truck!
Unless you off-road, this is a no brainer which one is a better everyday vehicle.
Tacoma hands down. Just look at sales numbers. Tacoma at 250,000/year vs Ridgeline at 35,000/year. That's a massacre.
Proving how many are sheep is what it is,if ego takes a back seat to common sense the ridgeline wins every time. If needing to look cool in a truck is your main concern, then let the world know you have a small penis and buy a tacoma or a full size truck that you will never take off road and drives like shit on the road.
Sorry taint boy, ridgeline is for real men.
@@MrJaredmiller79 You're probably the first person in history to call a Ridgeline a man's truck. It's unibody for starters which means it's actually not a truck at all. It might identify as a truck but that don't make it so.
Ridgeline is not Honda's bread and butter. I had/have both vehicles, and I can see why people buy them.
I'm a 1st Generation Ridgeline person. You can modify a Tacoma more. Tacoma has been around longer.
It basically cheaper. The Tacoma come in multiple trims. Honda never planned to sell that many Ridgelines. Many people don't look at other numbers
Both sixs
Like low Honda and awd but not bold enough, tacoma too high
Ridgeline is BY FAR the better TRUCK... Unless you plan on seriously towing, or off-roading. But by every other metric, the Honda wins...
Not a truck. 🤦🏻
@@ryanb3908 ...best mid-size truck..
@@ryanb3908it is a truck. You can even look in the dictionary. No valid definition of a pickup truck requires a body on frame. 😽
Interestingly, the very first truck was based on a car…
@@scottryan9414 Actually just a car with a truck bed as it can't go anywhere a real truck can. 👍
@@ryanb3908 actually it’s a truck and it goes just fine. No compensating necessary.
The ridgeline is meant for pavement, taco is meant for rocks. Choose accordingly.
it sits too low like a 2wd, needs like a 3” lift

This is a question?
Sorry, but you talk to fast to follow. Slow it down a bit.
You dont really need a tacoma unless your're off roading
So cheesy I know, but the push button shifter is the dealbreaker for me on the Ridgeline. Why they are putting push button trans on utility vehicles is beyond me, it's far more suited for a luxary vehicle.
Not cheesy at all. It’s a valid complaint
You sold me on the tacoma
Is this real?
Honda redgeline
edita las cifras por favor escribe datos
tacoma is for the trail
honda is for…..housewife
Why would you ever compare these two I could see if you compare this to a regular TRD but not to a pro come on now this is ridiculous!
Honda ridgeline 130 mph, taco 113...just sayin.
Speaks way too fast for this review. Not enough time spent highlighting some of the features on either vehicle. Sometimes, speaking too fast to even understand. Especially in the beginning.
Tacoma all day . I can’t take that Honda design
Whos really going off roading?
That Honda interior for $46,000 is laughable
Not more than the Taco cramped interior. I prefer the RL interior more.
@@Marbind not the space, just the infotainment, speakers, and gauges
I got to test drive a 2022 RL RTE and a 2022 Taco TRD Sport after selling my 2005 Taco SR5 4x4. I tried to love the RL but I couldn’t. Taco is still my preference.
900 pounds payload?…
