There’s a Salt and Straw in Newport/Costa Mesa now - plenty of parking and not as crazy busy as Downtown Disney.

It is one thing about visiting Portland , Oregon; is that they now have a light rail to downtown from the airport. If you are visiting Cannon Beach park at the Cannon Beach Visitor Center and walk to the beach and walk out to Haystack Rock. If you have time visit Astoria and Seaside. Happy travel.
My favorite burger ever was un PDX. From PDX burger food truck. It is their One Night In Bangkok burger with peanut butter, sambal oelek chili and bacon jam. Amazing!

We live in Sherwood about 15 miles southwest of Portland. You hit all our favorite spots to show our friends from out of town. Salt & straw is one of our most visited places! We will be staying in LAX area on Nov 10th the day before boarding RCCL Navigator. If you have any suggestions for breakfast before boarding the ship please let us know! We will VLOG it! Great video. That Voo Doo Donuts location is a great less crowded spot. They just recently opened another in Milwaukie Oregon close where we live. Next time up you should try Flying Pie Pizza but you better be hungry. There is one 15 minutes from the airport and a few other locations. If you come to the one by me, It'll be my treat!

What fun day trip to a city far away. In reference to the food truck, you all were remarking on how this food compared with la and sd. well, this food truck presented food known to those cooking. would have been interesting to know where cooks came from and the type of food they prepare. knowing that you can then seek out the same in your area. Salt and Straw has a location here in sf a few blocks from my home. when they first opened the line of customers was around the block. not any more. flavors change which makes for some interest, but we have come to know if you like the flavor you buy a larger container and keep in freezer.
Our closest S&S is in Downtown Disney, so not too bad. lol.

Oh my gosh! After a 12-1/2 drive, we finally made it back home from Oregon last night at 7:30. We will NEVER drive up there ever again. We will only ever fly!
It’s absolutely beautiful in Oregon! The fall colors and the cooler weather…..I wanted to stay forever!
I’m sooooo excited that you profiled Salt and Straw! I had their pear and blue cheese ice cream…..OMGEEE! It was delicious! Our son and his bestie had the one with the bugs. We also had Voodoo Donuts. I wish I would’ve paid more attention, because I love anything and everything pumpkin! I had their chocolate donut. Boring…..😂
When we drove up to Portland, it was specifically to visit Roloff Farms Pumpkin Patch, then our son drove us into downtown Portland to eat at his favorite Hainan Chicken Rice place, called ‘Nongs Kao Man Gai.’ I believe the owner started out making her Hainan chicken rice out of a cart, and now has her own restaurant. I hope you can give it a try, the next time you’re in Portland.
I wish I would’ve seen this video before our trip, because I definitely would’ve tried the taco truck for sure! We love mulitas and we love taquitos and flautas. Thank you both for sharing your day with us! I’m so looking forward to your Multnomah Falls video. Something else, I wish we would’ve done. We spent all of our time down in the Eugene area. When you go back you have to eat Grassa in Downtown and NOLA donuts for their beignets. Definitely recommend for your next Portland trip.

Lisa if you’ve never tried Tiger Tail flavoured ice cream, please do! Not sure if its more of a Canadian thing but its orange ice cream with ribbons of black liquorice in it! Really good.

I live in Portland and I would not say its perfect weather. We are having extreme bad air quality because of the wildfires and having no rain to put them out.

We're both born and raised in SoCal.
Portland has a history of a large hispanic community. They were migrants picking fruits and vegetables in the fields 40 + years ago. Now they have their own businesses.

I used to love Portland and went there often but it is now overrun with crime and homeless encampments. Downtown is devastated and it is not a safe place. It is a shame because Portland was a great food place especially if you are vegan, it is a shame how it has been destroyed

Yep I live in Oregon and 45 minutes drive from Portland. But since the burning/destroying business that was allowed by the crooked politicians took place in 2020 I don’t go there anymore.
@@Pauly-hc3qo People make the mistake of thinking that the homeless are not extremely dangerous. If you live/work in a place like Portland or Seattle like I do you are well aware. It is not uncommon to read stories of people pushed down stairs, stabbed, hit etc by homeless people who are psychotic, high or both. The best thing to do is completely avoid the areas where you might encounter them. Recently a coworker was jogging in the afternoon and a homeless man appeared on the trail. He started to come towards her and instead of turning and running in the opposite direction she continued to go forward but she moved over on the trail to give him as much room as possible. She didn't anticipate what would happen next, when she was about to pass him he wound up and punched her in the face. Luckily there were other people on the trail who came and helped her and the guy ran off. This was in broad daylight on a public trail.
@@kayakdog4884 Yes I do know homeless people are dangerous. I am afraid of running into them when I walk alone. We don’t know what they are capable of doing. Most of them have mental health issues.
Yep, last time I went to Dante's I was harassed by aggressive panhandlers just across the street, don't support their economy until they turn things around!
I went to Portland once. ♥ I was welcomed with completely open arms. I am so grateful for the lovely reception that I got. ❤
Things have changed drastically, especially since the 'summer of love' where Antifa burned down everything and police stood by. Starbucks just announced they are closing downtown Portland stores due to crime. Like I said, it was a great city and its a shame what it has become

The closings are exaggerated and basically an excuse to downsize less profitable locations. Try a little tasting trip, stay in one of the excellent downtown boutique hotels, see a show at the Schnitz (we're seeing "To Kill a Mockingbird" on stage this weekend) ... see for yourself.

I didn’t go to Portand to go to a boutique hotel I went to the downtown area and last time I was there the Elk statue was gone, lasted 120 yrs but removed after antifa tried to burn it down. "Antifa" isn't really a thing ... it's an idea ... and that isn't really even a thing anymore either. Things change - Portland has ALWAYS been a place of change and has evolved ... sometimes for the better, sometimes for the worse. If you doubt that, check out the Shanghai Tunnels tour ... it'll stand your hair on end hearing about what a "wild west," scary place Portland was for those who had few resources and were prey to people who traded in human flesh.
I don't actually live IN Portland, but I'm a lifelong Oregonian who loves to go "to town" and do and see things it offers.
Yes, homelessness is a problem (it is where I live as well), yes, there was a violent period in a very SMALL part of the city. I currently live about an hour away (it's cheaper here) but still enjoy, just like Bill and Lisa, going up and hanging out.
Strangely, it's not any of the reasons you speak about that puts me off living in Portland, it's actually the traffic. I've gotten used to a "rush minute" rather than a rush hour and I'm getting to the point that suburbia is maybe more boring, but easier for me.
