Top 5 Fastest Turboprops | Price & Specs

  • In this video, we're sharing our list of the top 5 fastest turboprop models for business or personal use, including their maximum cruise speeds and market price. For obvious reasons, we're doing away with military models with similar or greater speeds. Watch until the end for our top pick!
    Private jets are not always the best choice when it comes to flying fast. With soaring jet fuel prices and rising environmental concerns, the future of private aviation is looking back to propeller-driven aircraft, and this is where turboprops come in. A turboprop engine is more fuel-efficient and lightweight than a jet engine, giving it better performance during takeoff. It runs more efficiently while providing a higher power output per unit of weight than a jet. For a fraction of the cost, turboprop planes can even travel the same distance and speed as modern jets.

      Please add 3 important points : (1) maximum cabin height for passengers (not being anle to decently stand up in a plane makes any trip tiring), (2) stability of the aircraft in rough weather and (3) length and type of runway needed for take-off and landing. Without these 3 points, how can one decently compare different aircraft ? Thank you.

    I'm a retired Navy Flyer who was used to cruising at FL400 & 400KIAS in my squadron's Lockheed S-3 Viking aircraft when practicing airways training when back home from deployment at the Naval Air Station. As a new subscriber, I was pleased to watch your Top 5 Private Jets & Top 5 Private Turboprops vids.
    As I've been a fan of the Piaggio P.180/EVO Avanti II twin-engine for some time, I was pleased to see it in the #1 position of your private turboprop ratings. I'm also a recent fan of the private Celera 500L single-engine ultra-modern V12 diesel/Jet A pusher, and would love to see these 2 compared.
    I suggest in your vids of these private jet & TP aircraft that you pay particular attention to the ranges and maximum cruising altitude/FL of each aircraft as advertised by the manufacturers, as well as the max cruise speed. I'd also like to see the Avanti II & Celera 500L compared to the private jets.
    Friends who are airline pilots advise me that the range, max cruise speed & max cruise altitude are not the only important measures of an aircraft. They maintain that the PT-6 in the Avanti II hasn't a good climb performance compared to the jets, gives a very slow time to complete climb out comparatively, thus affecting the range. I assume that this may be a concern for the Celera pusher, as well, but not really sure. Would love to have your perspective on these concerns.
    Thanks for some really interesting video!

    IMHO, You have a mixed class of turboprops here, and left out the number 1 altogether.. For single engine/1 pilot I would select the TBM 9xx as number 1, Pilatus PC12 number 2, Cessna Denali 3, Piper PA46/M600 4 and maybe the King Air 260 5, although the King Air is a twin and different class. The Dash 8 is a commercial plane with higher capacity that fly's scheduled routes. The Piaggio is a low volume twin of I think higher capacity, although I'm not very familiar with them. But the first 5 are the ones for personal/ business use. Hope that helps. 8) Again, JMHO --gary

      The choice between the Dash-8 and the TBM series would depend on the specific mission and requirements. While the Dash-8 is a regional aircraft known for its capacity, the TBM series is renowned for its speed and agility. As an ex Q400 driver I can tell you that you’re 10 knots slow on the Q400. It can do 370 KTAS, although you are riding up a bit close against the speed limit, so yes 360 is what’s usually seen. It’s an amazing aircraft in terms of performance, but awful in turbulence (feels like you’re in a washing machine) and not a well designed aircraft for pilot ergonomics. Bombardier wanted to keep the design commonality with the 100/200/300 in order to maintain a common type rating. A pity, as no one uses it really.

      @@jamesmcpeake3235 that’s fantastic! Would love to get my hands on one someday. I read somewhere that the P180 is slow in climb though so block times suffer? Standard climb in the Q400 is 210 KIAS but high speed climb of 235 is often used (in both cases reducing at higher altitudes). The Q400 easily overspeeds even on one engine so plenty of attention needs to be paid to power management and it’s slippery as heck, unlike most turboprops. The propellers acting as big drag discs just doesn’t happen due to the blade angle at flight idle essentially creating very little drag. Deceleration for 250KIAS below A100 usually starts at around 12,000 feet or higher if you’re heavy and particularly with tailwind. Anyway enough from me. Thanks for sharing!

    The range of the Piaggio Avanti Evo you stated had 2700 nm range, I think is incorrect unless this year they improved the range from 1700 sm miles to 2700 nm? I have always liked the Piaggio design.

    • @AviationFederation
      @AviationFederation  10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Thank you for pointing that out! You are correct; the Piaggio Avanti Evo indeed has a range of approximately 1,490 nautical miles (nm), and not 2,700. But it does have the equivalent 2,795 kilometers of range. I appreciate your attention to detail and your fondness for the Piaggio design. Which other turboprops would you like us to feature next?

      That's right, I haven't had the chance to look at the SAAB 2000 yet, but would love to feature it in future videos. As for the Piaggio Avanti P180 Evo's flight range, I forgot to mention that it's possible with a single stop at full load since the total distance is 4,139 km. The P180's range is actually 2,795 kilometers and not in nautical miles. Sorry for that oversight! What other features of the P180 stood out to you the most?
