You can stand on the side of any of the 3 landing gear, and it will lift you up inside the landing gears storage area, when up the landing gear despawns and you're inside a decent sized little room. Do with that what you will.
There is another thing. You can load ground vehicles into the hangar bay of the Polaris at mining area 141 on Daymar. You can then shoot other ships with the ground vehicles or flip the Polaris upside down and go AC-130 an entire distribution center.
Its a Corvette, its not a lightly armored ship. infact it is the most armored ship for its class and weight in lore and is built with sloping armor panels to deflect vanduul ramming tactics, and in game it is the most modern capital ship to date being only 10 years old and is the successor to the Idris and will be seen in a lot of the front line battles with the vanduul in the future as it fits with the new naval doctrine "the complete annihilation of a species". I recommend reading up on the lore of stuff it's quite interesting.
Hopefully CIG keeps it adequately armored when Engineering Tech hits. But from what I hear, they plan to make the Polaris 'the lightest capital armor' from all capitals. The Idris-P is supposed to be 'medium' and the Idris-M is going to be 'heavy'... We'll see how it ends up, hope it remains adequate in larger fights!
@@eigos me too I cant stand it when they don't follow their own lore. like did you know the Polaris was supposed to have a pool table and it was requested by a high ranking person in the UEE.
Argo Cargo is a pretty neat vehicle to keep onboard. Fits nicely, and if you got an extra crew member can pick up stranded passengers during Phase 3 who can then mount your unused guns. Even a Argo Tractor/ATLS is a nice to have onboard as a spare to assist in cargo.
The Argo Tractor is definitely my favorite tool in my arsenal, as it's utility is almost endless. But the ATLS, I've got a gripe with - it always does damage to your ship just by walking up a ramp (confirmed as a bug by CIG); Hope they fix that soon™!
@@eigos I'm not normally flying the Polaris, but I'm crew. I like to have a box ready to go with suits and weapons to bring into the bottom. The Polaris isnt always in a hangar though, but you get a bit of RP bringing over a tractor with a box of suits. Just would be nice if you could make it half and half officially (you can ad hoc it by attaching seats/a couch to the bottom). Idealy I would have an argo tractor with a detatchable cargo module that can hold troops, that would be the best snub bar none. In lore, the Argo series can grab escape pods.
On thing that will be important to note about the Polaris' S6 guns, is they have much higher than average penetration values baked in. While that doesn't matter now in 3.24.3 or in 4.0, when we get Engineering, CIG is changing Hull HP into Ship Armour, and you'll have to penetrate the armour to damage components to take out ships. That high penetration value will aid it heavily in taking out things like Engines, Turrets, and internal components when fighting Large or even Capital ships.
With the passive -20% stealth on it, you kind'a can! Tweaking some emissions down, like shutting down life support & reducing weapons power (potentially dropping shields too), will make you invisible at a long range! If the enemy is not looking, you may even torp them successfully!
@@eigos Now I want a Polaris variant that does away with the bespoke Size 6 turrets and the torpedo launchers, in exchange for a bigger cargo bay and ramp (Enough for a Nova Tank), a small fabrication station to make parts and ammunition, and a larger interior hangar with the same carrying capacity as the Anvil Liberator's exterior pads. I have one but if we're really being honest here, this is a capital ship thus it will definitely be a large money sink. Between repair and re-arming costs, there's nothing currently in game that can definitely make flying around this ship profitable. The game isn't entirely ready for a ship like this quite yet.

I wouldn't "advertise" to put carģo outside the cargo grid as CIG just reveaked the new hud elements, including a "overweight" symbols. So at some point you load up cargo in the cargo bay and hangar in space, and the Polaris will fall to the ground as it can not support over 1000 SCU of cargo.
That's very true for planetside landing (although moons have less gravity), but in space - it's fair game to stuff as much things as humanly possible! Polaris should get a capital QT drive...
,not necessary the drive but at least qt fuel tanks and hydrogen tanks need to be capital
With a size 3 you can replace it or swap a destroyed drive with a fresh one. I see this as an advantage to limp the ship back to drydock/repairs
